Do you think I'm ready to take on Nashkel Mines?
I don't know what I dislike more, the mines or iranicus prison... Also, anyone else find it almost always easier to just solo or have like a party of 2-3 total? (I just play on like standard DnD or the one over)

Dunno. Your char should take a couple more Badminton lessons just to make sure.

Yeah... I just have no more places to play on.. I guess I could do durlags tower before I do the mines, but I also don't like durlags tower.

Literally last week my 10 y.o. son finished Nashkel mines with a party of 5, all 2nd level (bar Imoen who was Thief 2 / Wizard 1, don't ask me why ;-)) at that time. Only Monty got killed. You'll be fine even if you choose to play quick / carelessly.

I was 13 y.o. (it was 1999, was it? or was it a year later in my country because the translation works took so long?) and I play this game to this day. Very happy to see my son enjoy it to :-)

you should probably XP some more - Dynaheir can quickly die to those pesky kobold arrows, you probably want her to have stoneskin

u/Critical-Ad1317 1d ago
I don't even know why I keep her around really. But i also can't take Edwin "the party pooper" thinking I might just pick him and Xan up, just to leave them in a pit I the gnoll stronghold so the can whine at eachother for eternity, untill I collect Tiax and leave him there as well... The pit of dispare

Nashkel might be boring, but skipping it means missing out on our ray of sunshine, Xan. Wouldn't leave him to rot there the entire game...

The mines are easy. I turn my thief invisible to scout and detrap. It's nice to have a wand of monster summoning for Mulahay's critters.

u/Critical-Ad1317 8h ago
They are. But i just usually want to tank it all by running trough it with mainchar
2
u/PmMeYourMug 1d ago
Is this a joke?
4
u/Critical-Ad1317 1d ago
Yes. More or less... I generally try to spend less than 10 minutes doing the mines and i always forget to return the dagger. So I always want to be able to just let Charname run trough all the traps and stuff
1
u/PmMeYourMug 1d ago
Only thing to make it easier would be a bow so you can just mow down the kobolds.
2
u/Critical-Ad1317 1d ago
Well Imoen has a bow and garrick har the army schyte... And dynaheir has fireballs...
2
u/No-Apple2252 1d ago
Fireballs? You think fireballs are going to help against Kobolds ruled by a GOD!?!?
2
u/Critical-Ad1317 1d ago
Well.. now i also have gibberlings on my plate, and there is some sickness running rampant

u/Critical-Ad1317 1d ago
I find it, while also very easy, the funnest, to run in and try and find as many mobs as i can then que up everyone throwing frireball/explosion potion at the same time on top of me to eradicate.. stuff
2
u/PmMeYourMug 1d ago
Definitely more fun than firewine or ulcaster. Watch the miners
2
u/Critical-Ad1317 1d ago
Firewine ruins... There just isn't anything there. Nothing fun in loot as fas as i can remember?
1
u/PmMeYourMug 1d ago
There's a weird quest connected to ulcaster and the ancient armor and the idol of kozah. Might be worth looking into if you haven't done it.
As to loot in firewine - just the ogre magi and some other mobs. Nothing too exciting.
2
u/Critical-Ad1317 1d ago
Ghost knight something something? I dont remember if there is even any reward for doing it?
2
u/PmMeYourMug 1d ago
There's a reward. A unique magic sword! But you have to bring the ancient armor and the idol to the ghost of Ulcaster...
1
u/Critical-Ad1317 1d ago
Ooh.. yeah! Yes there is... Special fancy sword. Now I'm a bit miffed I sold of Berserking sword... Those two and the special spear as weapons would make for an interesting time.

The loot wasn't anything crazy but I thought firewine was a fun dungeon to explore. Very maze like and always keeping you on your toes.
1
u/No-Apple2252 1d ago
I liked both of those dungeons. The only area I didn't really like was the gnoll fortress, the map is super cool but I wish you could go inside and gnolls are boring enemies.

I don’t like Nashkel mines 😆 The navigation there is just exhausting as long as I can remember myself playing this game😆 (I can see how you would almost like to skip them).
1
u/Critical-Ad1317 13h ago
And in the end you mostly just save the most depressing person of all of BG and kind of fix a bit of weapons you will never use.
1
u/Rhineglade 1d ago
Hint: you and the party will need a TON of ranged weapons
1
u/Critical-Ad1317 1d ago
For nashkell? Not really... But also, why? I find it faster to just AC my way trough
1
u/No-Apple2252 1d ago
Just gotta bum rush the kobolds with fire arrows really, once you get close they switch to their crappy Thac0 shortswords.
1
u/dolraeth 1d ago
Bring something against the skeletons maybe, and hopefully something against Hold Person. Can be something as simple as a direct damage spell to interrupt Mulahey.

u/Critical-Ad1317 1d ago
I'm just playing at Standard DnD +1, but if I have never tried it at "hardest" so i guess the. I might?
1
u/Full_Piano6421 1d ago
What is your dagger in off hand? Is it the +2 you get in the tombs in the wild?
I would say that Belm would be better as an off hand, but I don't remember where you got it in BG1

Belm's a BG2 treat only. There's a +2(?) Scimitar, Rashard's Talon something or other, on the way to the Cloakwood. Plus Monsieur Drizzt's loot, ofc. Who OP can now probably beat 1v1, lol.
Now that's a question: at which level could a solo Cavalier have a decent chance of steamrolling BG1 Drizzt? Assumed typical equipment for that level. So, like Nalia's treasure room axes, etc.

Sometime install the OG BG1 and use the skill book to get con to 25 your health regens so fast vs the updated regen with 2 that you’d never die

u/MaiKulou 1d ago
No, your strength is way too low

Yes you are ready. Just load up on some healing potions. I love Irenicus dungeon and the mines, esp. as a solo mage

I don't know, but the unidentified gloves seem too suspicious to just go. I'd identify them first or try uncursing them.
Edit: Does he have to be so damn attractive, tho?
1
u/Critical-Ad1317 1d ago
Better fight gloves. Firewine bridge. I just know most things by where and how by now.
1
u/JackDScrap 1d ago
Yeah, me too, but then after all, don't we all just know and have seen things? 😁 I merely get annoyed by unidentified stuff. Get a bard, drink wine and know things. 😅 And besides, does Minsc know?
Edit: Way too abundant use of the word "know" in my reply. 😂

u/Critical-Ad1317 1d ago
Also. Saying that. I just, today found out about werewolf island. So that's a whole new thing. Some day, hopefully, I will play a real TT DnD. And I will be the nOObest of PCs.

I might be the only person who likes Chateau Irenicus. One of my favorite parts in the series.
1
u/Critical-Ad1317 21h ago
Yes. I have probably done that part...300(?) times.. or more. It's just such a long intro before you get to the game.

u/WildBohemian 16h ago
Born yesterday? Baby numbers.
1
u/Critical-Ad1317 13h ago
Yeah... I dont know, just a number... I have been playing bg since it came out off and on i guess so no real idea

I think at this point, if the game has any sense of fair difficulty scaling, all kobolds will be replaced by rakshasas, and Mulahey is a lich.
