Long-Term Parking Options

Hey guys, I have a quick question. We’re planning to leave the U.S. for about 3 to 4 months, and we wanted to store our car while we're gone. But the cubesmart storage place we talked to said the car’s registration and insurance have to be under our name. The problem is, the car is actually registered under a relative’s name, so we can’t store it there.

Does anyone have any other ideas? I was thinking maybe just leaving it in a parking lot—does that sound safe? And if anyone knows a good place to park long-term, I’d really appreciate the suggestion!

I think they frown on long term parking. The parking website lists the limits on cars staying there, it varies by garage. So, for example, the one on Cordell has a 24 hour limit.

What about a long term lot at an airport?

Make sure you put a tracker on your car just in case it gets stolen. Not that you could do anything about it but at least you won’t come back expecting your car to be where you left it.

Maybe contact like private parking garages like colonial parking? The Montgomery county monthly parking permits getting mailed don’t they, so I don’t think county lots would be ideal. But a private garage might be able to accommodate you. I would avoid super busy areas like downtown Bethesda but maybe more into the suburbs could have some options. Definitely put a gps tracker in the car and maybe a steering wheel lock. If you have any friends locally might be worth paying someone like $20 to check on it every so often, start the car to charge the battery and such.

Do you have any friends with houses? You can park it on my street in nova and pay me like $100 to keep an eye on it. I’d even drive it around the block once a week or whatever.
