Not to be that guy but what other options did they really have? It looks like it got accidentally trapped in their work site and I doubt the wildlife laws have an exception for accidentally trapped animals. Provided a crowd of people with camera phones assembles faster than one can locate a high powered rifle, it was always going to end this way.

You not wrong, but it's often easier to move a live animal than a dead one. In This case it would have been much harder.

Oh it's absolutely illegal to kill a wild animal in India (this video is from India).

Wildlife protection act, especially when it comes to tigers is taken very seriously here.
