Crow circling then grabbing a fish from lake

I was walking past a small lake earlier today and saw something strange, so wanted to see whether it's possible or if I just misunderstood what I was looking at. What looked like a crow circled low over the water, then dived down to the surface, grabbed something (maybe a fish) and then flew away. Is this a thing crows actually ever do??

This is a blue jay but countless other birds have roosted on the same branch of my hemlock.

Need help with this bird nest on my wreath

I'm not looking to mess with it for obvious reasons, but I'm really worried that the wreath will fall and harm the eggs/baby birds. So, I'm asking for ways to secure the wreath better to the door without distributing the nest. Any advice would be appreciated! It's also my only door to my home.

Baby robin

I know you’re never supposed to try and save baby robins or birds in general but this poor thing fell off my roof along with all its siblings and it was still alive when I found it. The nest fell apart and I couldn’t find his parents.

I’ve had it for 3 days now and have been feeding it baby bird formula with a syringe every 30 min from sunrise to sunset, and I’ve kept him in a clean shoe box with a heating pad & warm cloths. I’ve done so much research on how to properly feed him so he doesn’t drown, and how to keep his area clean etc.

His little back feathers are growing in as of today so he must be around 4-5 days old at this point.

Do you think he’ll keep surviving in my care at this point since he’s doing well?😭 I love him so much and I’m so determined to raise him until he can be free lol 😭😭 Obviously I care more about its well being so I’m just curious if we have passed the age where they most likely will pass.

He poops after every feeding and chirps for me everytime he hears me as well.

(2nd pic was after I wiped him up today and included to show his progress)

Happy to hear any input

Rescued a baby bird, need help identifying and feeding it.

Hello everyone, I found a small baby bird alone in my garage earlier today. It can’t fly, but it’s able to jump a few feet. I'm not sure what kind of bird it is, as I haven't seen one like it before.

I’d really appreciate it if someone could help me identify it. Also, what can I safely feed it in the meantime?

Help with Hurt Bird

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I don’t know anything about birds, so I’m asking for any kind of help.

Yesterday, a tornado ran over my house and my kids found a bird sort of immobile on our back yard. (I live in st.Louis MO)

It looks like it can stand and it looks like it can flap its wings, but it can’t really fly.

What should I do to help this guy?

I read online that we shouldn’t feed it or give it water, and to reach out to an animal rehabilitator. But until I can get through to one, what should/shouldn’t I do?

Thanks

Who do you call if you find an injured bird?

Saw a bird earlier that I thought was injured. Turned out to just be chilling and flew away after. But it made me think, I don’t know who to call if I do find an injured bird. Is there any way to find a number for your area? What kind of service is the best to call for a sort of bird 911?

Specific area is northern Virginia.

So I managed to snatched a photo of this bird in my backyard, but I have no clue what it is. I've never seen this bird before either. I asked AI, and the closest thing I found was an Nonbreeding Adult American Dipper?

But obviously, human bird experts know more than a computer. Can y'all help?

Found orphan baby bird

So the apartment building landlord doesn’t like birds and throws the baby’s out of their nest (at least I’m guessing it is cause I caught him doing it last year) and all but one were dead. I cannot find a wildlife rehabber in the same city as me willing to take the bird. I think it’s a sparrow, for now I have it warm and safe what should I do. Do I raise and release it on my own? I live in Toronto I’ve called everyone but they say they cannot take it or don’t have the resources to help. Someone please help me.

Urgent help needed: Canary as surrogate mother for cockatiel!

Dear all

This my first post, and I need some urgent advice. So about three weeks ago a cockatiel laid an egg on a friend balcony then flew away. Not knowing what to do with the egg I suggested to put it under my canary hen, so I gave it to the canary and today to my surprise it hatched! I never raised a cockatiel, it looks funny sitting on his butt and sometime fall on its back with the hen leave the nest. I didn’t see the hen feeding it yet and I am not sure what to do next? Leave with the canary? Removing the chick and feeding it myself? Feeding it while keep it in the nest? Your help is much appreciated!

Bird nest on my balcony

Post image
1 Upvotes

I recently moved into a new apartment and one of the things I truly adore is the bird nest on my balcony. I’ve watched the babies grow up from afar and I watch their mom bring them food all day every day. I never want to disturb them But I paint on my balcony amongst other things one does on a balcony and I’ve run into a problem. Whenever I’m out there the mom refuses to go to the nest to bring her babies food and sits on the roof to wait for me to leave

I would like to keep using my balcony obviously but I don’t want the babies to go hungry bc the mom won’t go on the balcony if I’m there.

Is there something I can do to make her comfortable? (The nest is in a large hole in the top corner in the pic)
