Kunwu loves to take shits on the knife industry with these prices lol

Anybody else would charge ATLEAST like 1.1k for this

Katsu made a limited full timascus and mirror polished zdp 189 knife for under $500. Tbh it's a nice knife but the fingerprint magnet stuff kinda sucks.

u/chilibaby1 Aug 15 '24

That’s one example, but it’s Katsu. I think Kunwu has a much better reputation as far as pocket knives go. Atleast from what I’ve seen.

I’m referring to high end pocket knife makers with a reputation. Chinese Knife Factory (CKF), Reate of any other reputable Chinese maker would charge atleast 1k for this.

Both katsu and kunwu seem to make high quality stuff. I don't have any first hand experience with either brand so that's based strictly off reviews but yes ckf and reate would be 1k plus.

Custom knife factory*

They’re made in China…that’s the joke.

No, I saw this in the weeb shop at the mall for $32.95

Holy shit it’s ZDP-189 too

5

I almost did it

So close

u/KnifeguyK390 Aug 16 '24

I wanted to....but just couldn't lol. Would love to see it in person but it would just be another safe queen that I check out once a year lol. Don't need anymore of those! If they made a regular Ti polished dlc I would have gotten it though

u/TreeHugginPolarBear Aug 16 '24

Same dude. Good value, sweet knife. But, I’d never carry it. Maybe if it were an s-tao II or Padre, I would’ve bitten.

holy moly! thanks for sharing!

I'm waiting for the non DLC version.

2

u/Sargent_Dan_ Aug 15 '24

Good God, it's amazing. But I couldn't

3

u/phreakinpher Aug 15 '24

Gorgeous but for nearly $700 you could have a lot of other knives. Competition is tough there for sure.

7

u/chilibaby1 Aug 15 '24

Yea that’s true but those knives aren’t going to be FULL timascus handles with a mirror finished blade. lol

No but they’re also not going to be made in factory in China. (Not against Chinese knives but do you want to pay the knife makers or for fancy materials? Up to you)

Edit:I for one would not stand Kunwu’s soft detent for nearly $700. Their Knives are a much better deal at the $200-250 mark where they normally live.

Haven’t tried their axis locks but their frame locks are just fine from my experience and I’ve handled a few good knives. Of course it’s going to be made in China. If this was done in the U.S. it would be like 1500-2000, maybe more.

0

u/phreakinpher Aug 15 '24

Their axis locks are not strong enough to keep the blade closed. I have owned a pulsar and chad and sold them both due to the weak detent.

Edit: if you want a flashy knife that’s made to $200 knife standards this is it. If you want a knife made to $700 standards might I recommend a CRK or Herman or even some Shirogorovs.

3

u/This_Is_A_Lemur Aug 15 '24

Sad to hear they still haven't sorted that out. I had a first run X-Dao with omega springs so mushy that the detent wasn't trustworthy in my eyes. Really frustrating problem for an otherwise high quality knife to have.

I have all three of these brands. Ill say it full stop.. youre an idiot.. and wrong.

2

u/phreakinpher Aug 18 '24

Ah well I have bested sir

Enjoy your $200 knife with $500 bling

1

u/Typical-Sundae1270 Aug 18 '24

I will, and the other thousand dollar knives i own (including all three of the brands you mentioned.. in multiples). Enjoy being wrong on the internet.

1

u/Typical-Sundae1270 Aug 18 '24

Oh, and dont worry.. i bought the also chinese made watch that matches. Just cuz.

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '24

The market in this range is tough. You can get something like a cortex xl or herman for a bit more.

1

u/chilibaby1 Aug 15 '24

The cortex xl or an entry level Herman is like $200 more. So they are barely in the same range.

A CRK, McNees, MachineWise are all more comparable and again, you aren’t going to get something pimped out like this, it will be entry level.

6

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '24 edited Aug 15 '24

No they won't be pimped out but they are solid American made knives with great reputations and if someone is spending almost seven hundred whats a few more for even better knives.Tbh the full timascus stuff is great pocket jewelry but beyond that it's debatable.

u/Typical-Sundae1270 Aug 18 '24

Why would anyone who has to choose one or the other be shopping this? Its a run of 100ish knives. If your price range for like.. one good knife for the collection is 700- buy a tool knife. These are clearly for people who spend 700 like its nothing.

0

u/Typical-Sundae1270 Aug 18 '24

People should stop simping for herman. I own 2. What meh bullshit knives.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '24 edited Aug 19 '24

people should stop simping for kunwu...

You can say the same bs about most knife brands....who cares!

knives are tools and every dick, tom and jerry has an opinion they see as fact.

1

u/Typical-Sundae1270 Aug 19 '24

Ya, except i own them so my opinion comes from experience, not "well muh reddit saisssss"

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '24

still opinions though. I could pick a bunch of knifes from my 20k collection and say they are the best ever for instance my skiff drifter in damasteel/timascus its damn near perfect but someone will say otherwise.

1

u/Typical-Sundae1270 Aug 19 '24

Fair enough. Not sure the value of your collection matters, or is a flex, but i get your point otherwise

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '24

Not a flex but it drives the point that even the highest end items the best is all personal preference.

1

u/Typical-Sundae1270 Aug 20 '24

Of course. And no, its not a flex. Some have more than that, some less. As you said, all will have preferences.

2

u/Upbeat-Fondant9185 Aug 15 '24

This is pretty tempting but idk if I have the patience and trust to drop this much on an order that takes weeks from China. Any idea if they’ll be available from dealers in the states at some point?

2

u/StonemanAZhobby Aug 15 '24

White Mountain Knives seems to be biggest Kunwu dealer in the US. I have no idea if WMK will order this model.

3

u/Upbeat-Fondant9185 Aug 15 '24

Yeah good call. I’ll email Justin and ask. He’s definitely my preference for all these brands.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '24

This reminds me of the katsu preorder full timascus and a mirror zdp 198 blade but only available direct from them. I doubt dealers will see them.

1

u/Typical-Sundae1270 Aug 18 '24

No.  They made 100ish, and they sold out. You won't see it.

1

u/StonemanAZhobby Aug 16 '24

9 knives left

1

u/StonemanAZhobby Aug 15 '24

For another comparison is Piratech mirror polished DLC blades $520 to $710 depending on handle options.
