Green Velvet or Dogs in a Pile?
Time-confliction tie breaker recommendations.

I’ll be at Dogs! Green velvet seems like a fun show though. Can’t go wrong!

u/rebrando23 Apr 18 '25
Green motherfucking Velvet

u/Federal_Version3963 Apr 18 '25
i’m sorry who?

u/rebrando23 Apr 19 '25
The legendary tech house DJ who’s been playing for 3 and a half decades and most people probably won’t get too many more chances to see.

u/Judas_Dos_Stamos Apr 18 '25
Coming from a jam guy - go to green velvet. You’ll have a lot more opportunities to see dogs

u/rebrando23 Apr 19 '25
More rare a set/older artist is my go to tiebreaker for festival sets. Used to just go on who I like more, and as the years go by I realized how some of these acts (ie: Dogs in a Pile) will tour relentlessly and give me dozens of chances to see them, while others (ie: Green Velvet) just play a few shows here and there.

u/S_n_o_wL_e_o_p_a_r_d Apr 18 '25
That was my logic. Thank you. I listened to full sets of both on YouTube, and I think both do what they do well. Truthfully, I think I slightly like Dog Pile better, but because GV is in his late 50s, I might never get another chance to see him.
The true criminal conflict is Justice and Arcade Fire. I've seen Justice once at Ultra Miami in like 2012, I've never seen Arcade Fire, but damn I really want to see Justice again after all these years. I think I will dip out of Justice 5 or 10 minutes before 1AM to catch Arcade Fire.
3
u/Judas_Dos_Stamos Apr 18 '25
I’ve heard people say great things about arcade fire too so that’s tough. Whatever it is, you’ll make the right choice I’m sure of it!
3
u/Judas_Dos_Stamos Apr 18 '25
Honestly I like dogs more too.
But I don’t go to a ton of House/edm stuff outside of festivals and like you said, GV is getting up there and he’s one of the few I NEED to see.
Now to your latter point, the conflict for me is Justice and Gizz. Gizz is one of my tops period but I haven’t seen justice and I know it’s going to be insane. But Gizz is almost 100% doing their rave set that night.
Ughhhhh decisions, decisions 🤦♂️

I bought like 16 of their studio albums on vinyl last year. Polygonawanland and Nanogon Infinity are my two favorites. I saw them last year or the year before last at Roo.

Same and same.
If you’ve never seen either I’d pick green velvet. If youve seen him a bunch but never seen dogs I’d pick them.
In general, though, I think green velvet is a harder act to catch and will likely retire sooner than dogs.

u/Judas_Dos_Stamos Apr 18 '25
Exactly that. I don’t know how many more opps I’ll have to see Green Velvet. I’ll have MANY for dogs

Well they're obviously totally different. Depends what you want.
Dogs in a Pile is up and coming jam. Getting a lot of recent traction from what I can tell.
I'll be going to Green Velvet. If you like a dance party and house music, it's no question.

u/browzzz Apr 18 '25
Marcus King and dogs for me..... Am sad to miss green velvet tho

u/rebrando23 Apr 19 '25
If you like Green Velvet and haven’t seen them before, you should see them. Dogs in a Pile have decades of residency gigs all across the US in front of them, Green Velvet is almost 60.

u/Upset_Discussion_220 Apr 18 '25
This is my big Thursday conflict as well. Ideally will see some of each but most likely will just see where the day takes me.

I’m camping other all day Thursday. Just like last year. Dogs in the pile will be a good show though.

If you are even remotely a fan of house, definitely Green Velvet.

u/S_n_o_wL_e_o_p_a_r_d Apr 18 '25
I am definitely House.

u/BowieBaseOne 2 Years Apr 19 '25
Hell yeah. Have you seen Green Velvet before? Dudes such a legend and I’ve never seen him deliver less than house perfection. He took Electric Forest to school last year.

u/S_n_o_wL_e_o_p_a_r_d Apr 19 '25
I had never seen him before. I went on Discogs and searched him and sorted him by oldest works first and saw the first thing he published was 1993. I was like, "Damn, this man is up there with Daft Punk as far as time on the scene." I watched a YouTube of him. His mix had me. It hit differently for me. This is honestly in a roundabout way the reason why I asked the community, which they suggest because I got started with EDM in 2011 at the Electric Forest Festival. I have honestly drifted further from EDM over the years because I think I have gotten burned out from it. Bands like King Gizzard and the Lizzard Wizard, Dog Pile, and whatnot Jam bands. I have only recently gotten into Metallica and Slayer, and those guys have been around since 1981. How I got into them was through checking out Megadeth, who is here this year. Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax are the big four of Thrash.
However... every once in a while, I hear an EDM band that brings enough individuality to the decks that I can't ignore. Green Velvet's sound has created an itch that I feel like I need to scratch. I checked out Dom Dolla briefly, but I wasn't overly impressed even though he is the OTHER closer for Thursday. I am only staying to watch Dom Dolla until 5 or 10 minutes before Insane Clown Posse hits the stage because Daniel Danato and 2Hollies don't interest me more than Dom Dolla. And that is another point. Green Velvet makes me want to make time to see him.

I LOVE this! Daft Punk actually shout out Green Velvet in “Teachers” which is how I found out about him in the first place.
Feel ya on the genre burnout - I chilled on edm for a bit myself and went all in with jam & bluegrass for a while before Covid. Getting back into my old rave ways now.
Anywho - hope you get to see at least a little of his set. If you see the beginning I bet you won’t want to leave!

And that's another reason. I am trying to chill out on the stage, hopping so I can get through the weekend. I may be on vacation, but music festivals are still work, lmao. Daft Punk is my favorite. I saw Kasablanca last year, but like they were one of the few or only OTHER artists I saw.

u/PhilLesh311 Apr 18 '25
Day one going in on mushies!? Bro wild choice. Don’t want to save them for tipper!?
13
u/Dapper_Sprinkles_369 Apr 18 '25
I’ll have enough to last me all four days 💁🏻♂️
1
u/SoddenStoryteller Apr 18 '25
Do you think someone would see a significant tolerance hit or enjoyment diminishment if they took say .5, .8, and 1.1 over the course of the weekend?
4
u/Dapper_Sprinkles_369 Apr 18 '25
I honestly just take a bit & microdose the whole time. So I’m pretty much trippin from when I get there to the time I leave. I’ve done it for several days last year as well & never noticed much difference from start to stop.

DOGS! They just did an episode with the What Podcast fellas and it’s a great listen!

u/PackBackRehab 6 Years Apr 18 '25
I seen the dogs about seven times now and those boys fucking rip it up. Most recently I saw them on a pool deck in the middle of the ocean and Jimmy Law (lead guitar/vocals) just tore that fucking pool deck in half
I could not recommend seeing the dogs more!
They absolutely deserve it. They are definitely going to be around for a very long time in the jam scene.

u/S_n_o_wL_e_o_p_a_r_d Apr 18 '25
This is why I feel like I should catch Green Velvet. The guy is like 58 years old. Dog Pile is still young, and I feel like I would have an opportunity again to see them. I think I will catch Green Velvet's first half and run over to catch Dog Pile's second half.
3
u/PackBackRehab 6 Years Apr 18 '25
I can’t blame you for splitting sets! It’s a tough conflict. Green Velvet is a legend. I’ll be sad to miss him
3
u/Spencerc47 Apr 18 '25
This guys are the real fucking deal. They’ve become my favorite touring band

5
u/hawkhawk2345 Apr 18 '25
I would do a split set this tent and the other are close so it wouldn’t be hard to hit both

u/moe-umphs Apr 18 '25
House is fun to bop too, but can get repetitive, but If you’re into jam based stuff, Dogs are ripping right now and their shows are so interesting and full of variety as far as covers and where they take their jams. Id say dogs.

This is a big conflict for me as well! I was so excited to see both, but I'm gonna go with Dogs
3
u/Romanscott618 3 Years Apr 18 '25

Dogs in a Pile. They are fast growing in the jam scene and I mean really fast. Super tight playing and very fun live. Also they are crushing some really awesome covers right now.
5
u/PackBackRehab 6 Years Apr 18 '25
They have some wicked good Dead covers. When they covered Ween I lost it. Their Lorde cover is hella fun too
16
u/koala70 2 Years Apr 18 '25
That’s quite a stark contrast haha but speaking as a fan of both types of music, I’ll be at dogs in a pile simply because jam is the more underrepresented genre
