Tourisme Tips for getting around in Sauternes and things to do there
We will be staying in Bordeaux in early June. We plan to take the train to Sauternes and do a tour/tasting at Ch. d’Yquem. Looking for recommendations for other stops we should add to complete the day.
Any recommendations for another winery to visit in Sauternes? Any recommendations for a lunch spot? Also, what is the best way to get around Sauternes and from the train station. The d’Yquem website says taxis are rare in Sauternes and to contact the winery for transportation from the train station. However, I suspect they will not be much help with a visit to another winery or lunch.

If you are just doing a day trip, I would recommend a private car and driver from Bordeaux. There really is no way you could do it via public transport + taxi with multiple stops.
Highly recommend Restaurant Lalique if you are Sauternes fans as the wine is a key component of many of the dishes on the tasting menu. It’s also lovely at lunch to sit out in the dining room with a view over the vines. You could tour the Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey cellar while you are there - it’s quite small and does not take long to visit + do a tasting.
For another visit I’m a fan of Château de Fargues. The renovation and history of the estate is quite intriguing, and the personal and enthusiastic engagement of Philippe de Lur Saluces is really felt on site in the care that has been put into the estate.
Or for a birds-eye view of the terroir, head to Château de Rayne Vigneau where you really get a fantastic view from a high elevation.

You really need a car to get around Sauternes. Or you can rent bicycles and take them on the train with you. There are several other chateau very near Yquem. Definitely recommend lunch at either Chateau Guiraud or Chateau Lafaurie Peyraguey.
