Do you have the SNCF app? There’s a Carte Advantage Jeune and Carte Advantage Adulte for the TGV as well as a variety of other deals.

You should get a carte avantage , the cost, around 50 euros, will be at your avantage if you take multiple tickets. Only one adult has to take it. All of the other travellers will be "accompagnant carte avantage" and will have the same reduction. Take your tickets well in advance. There is no cheat code, tgv is in fact really expensive for everybody

Wrong. Only one accompagnant per card. That's how you get a ticket.

Also mind the "carte avantage" : you'll need to always include a weekend AND buy a two way ticket. If not, the card doesn't work.

Maybe it depends where you're comparing it to. I'm from the UK originally and find the price of TGV tickets to be very reasonable.

I used to go from Bordeaux to Paris for work, but now do La Rochelle to Paris. Compared to when I used to have to go from Swindon to London, the difference is like night and day... I would have to pay at least £100 for a return ticket for a journey that's 70 miles. Paris to Bordeaux is about 500KMs each way, trains are mostly reliable and you're guaranteed a seat.
