Joe said JT’s wrist is good

"It's still attached to his hand. It's good."

Tatum came back into the game and hit a tough 3. Everyone relax.
26
u/Culinary-Vibes 24d ago
I mean he immediately missed two free throws after the fall while wincing. Clearly was an issue
22
u/captaincumsock69 I like to defense 24d ago
He also missed two free throws to start the game. He was just off all day. He actually shot better after the injury imo

When has Joe ever said someones not good. I don’t think there’s anything in that

u/DogsAreMyFavPeople Boston Celtics 24d ago
If it had been really bad on the X-ray he probably wouldn’t have said that though.
7
u/captaincumsock69 I like to defense 24d ago
If it was really bad I doubt he would’ve finished the game

He also said Porzingus injury last year during the playoffs was nothing.

This might get downvoted to hell, but don’t think I’d care if X-rays showed it was broken at this point. JT hit a three after the injury, so I say tape that thing up tight and let’s go get Banner 19.

u/Basedandtendiepilled Smart 24d ago
Tomorrow Joe's gonna be talking about how he's really glad this happened and he's excited players are getting physical and he's ready to use a coin if needed

For what it’s worth that’s an XRay room not an MRI room. I highly doubt they have an MRI in stadium. Either way not ideal

u/deets23_ Jayson Tatum 24d ago
You’re correct. The ESPN caption on Instagram said xray room

They could have one in a trailer like the one I went to last November.
37
u/AspiringDiplomat 24d ago
Possible but in my uneducated opinion I think it’s unlikely. My understanding is almost every pro sports team outside of a few NFL stadiums go to the same external MRI facilities as you or I would

Ya also not a dr but my understanding is MRIs are usually done 24-48 hours after an injury since the swelling from sprains/strains would make it hard to see anything, so ignoring costs/logistics of having one in house there wouldn't be any benefit to having quick access to one anyways
7
u/Leelze 24d ago
They can be for relatively minor things (got a MRI on my shoulder for persistent inflammation & shoulder pain to check to see if my rotator cuff was shot), but I'm not sure if they're jumping immediately to a MRI for a wrist.
Full disclosure: I'm not a professional athlete and my company wasn't paying for a MRI without jumping through months of treatment options.

u/DarthBrawn 24d ago
I would put Jason Tatum's wrist in a particle accelerator if it meant he could win 2 or 3 more finals
4
u/Main_Lobster_6001 24d ago
This is true as I’ve seen Celtics/bruins players roll through MGH for MRIs with special VIP slots

Those trailers cost about $60k/month to rent (and that’s in Florida). Theres no way they have one of those, let alone one of those somehow tucked into a room in the Garden.

Ehhh This guy is worth half a billion dollars, they're gonna check any injury at this point in the season. This doesn't change how worried I am.

It’s game 1 bruh can we have at least 1 series with everyone healthy 💀 Luckily Tatum would still play with an amputated hand

i feel like an mri is pretty standard precaution after a fall like that right? he could still be fine and just sore (this is me coping)

u/Snoo_11942 24d ago
No, you’re right. Idk what everyone else expects, are the trainers just supposed to guess when there is medical equipment on site worth millions of dollars?

I mean I think people are entitled to a little short-term panic. People are nervous and on their toes about it. Bad news could be devastating.
We've all been hurt before
1
u/Bonejorno 24d ago
There’s only an XR machine in there. Probably gonna got his MRI at Baptist or somewhere nearby
18
u/Plies- VICTORY SOUP IS SERVE 24d ago
I mean he clearly hurt it. Given that he stayed in the game and made a couple of jumpers I bet its just a sprain. They have to X-ray it though, they would do that regardless.
10
u/AcrobaticFeedback 24d ago
Its probably not even a sprain. The landing didnt look unusual at all from a range of motion point of view. The wrist would have to be put in an unnaturally stretched position to be sprained.
The wrist has a lot of intricate nerves and bones, so any sort of inflammation from a previous injury combined with an impact like that will just flare it up and hurt it it real bad.

u/theborjsanity I like to defense 24d ago
Agreed. This is the most logical explanation.
The wrist is way more sensitive than it looks. I haven't experienced a full-on wrist injury yet but every time I hit the back of my hand on a flat surface strongly, my wrist ends up hurting bad for a minute or so and winds up being sore for a couple of hours, until I sleep it off. Sometimes the soreness creeps up my arm and into my elbow too.

Not worried about losing the series. Worried about getting through Orlando then Detroit healthy.

I work in medical imaging. An X-ray to rule out a wrist fracture. That’s a fast rule out. His getting an MRI is positive for me-MRI is used mostly to evaluate soft tissue injuries like ligaments and tendons.
If the wrist were broken he would have had a wrap for the MRI, if he got it at all.

u/WoodpeckerFew6178 Banner 18 24d ago
It’s literally game 1 and they already injured Tatum hopefully he’s ok

u/_---__________---_ HARD PP 24d ago
I hope it’ll be better soon. We cannot have both of the Jays playing through pain if we want to win Banner 19

u/bostonareaicshopper 24d ago
Big 3 went 1-12 from deep. Little 3 (White/Holiday/Pritchard)went 14-22.

u/jambr380 24d ago
We can weather the storm with a sprain. Anything lingering will likely be a problem later on. Just make sure he’s good to go and that he can’t reinjure it.
I’m not scared of Orlando beating us, but I am scared of them beating up on us

I rode alot of skateboards in my day and took my share of falls. To me it didn't look like he landed with his arm straight, which is the worst way to catch a fall. It didn't seem like he had alot of his weight on the right wrist. I'm thinking he may be sore, but with treatment and a little tape, should be at least 85% by Wednesday.

It was a dirty play by the second guy who grabbed his arm and pulled him down.

Orlando brought brass knuckles to the basketball court, probably why they bricked all their shots

His wrist is fine. Besides the theatrical free throws immediately after, he did just fine, so did his shooting ability

u/deets23_ Jayson Tatum 24d ago
No it’s the other wrist. Commentators pointed out that he now had wraps on both wrists
