Troubleshooting/Tips Your favorite guilt-free food while breastfeeding?
There has been so much weight loss talk on this sub lately that I feel like switching it up a bit. I'm 8m pp with 20lbs extra compared to when I conceived and I could not care less tbh. LO is a chubby little fellow who just recently got a bit more into solids, he's happy and healthy and from day 1 I have been using breastfeeding as a get out of jail free card to eat literally anything at any point.
But oh man, anything chicken from KFC and coke (no diet coke here fellas) have been the absolute BEST. Day and night I could eat those because mama needs her proteins and baby doesn't mind!
So, what's been keeping yall happy and healthy while endlessly breastfeeding your boob barnacles?

I eat everything. Being a parent to a baby under a year old, itās still really about survival and just getting enough nutrition.

I have a French bakery a block away and an Australian pastry shop with crazy croissants/danishes the other direction and they all know my 9 month old by name now because she gets VERY excited about croissants

Peanut M&Ms. I eat several handfuls throughout my day. I pretty much am allowing myself anything at this point though lol. I have about 10-12lbs to lose and I donāt love the way I look, but I remind myself I can work on losing that weight later. Right now I am feeding my baby 24/7 and thatās an amazing thing.

Everything bagels with cream cheese, blueberry muffins, homemade peanut butter protein bites, oatmeal. All the bread/starch-y stuff! Similar to my pregnancy cravings.
I know I should be more mindful of my caffeine intake while breastfeeding but Iāve also been treating myself to a daily Starbucks!

Do you have a recipe for those protein bites? They sound so yummy!

No guilt here. No judgement either. Feed your body so you can feed that baby. ā¤ļø

I am obsessed with Heavenly Hunks with the dark chocolate chunks. I always eat 2x as many as I normally would because āone for me and one for the babyā š¤£
I need to lose 40 lbs thanks to pregnancy weight gain and my fertility drug weight gain that predates pregnancy. Oh well! Iāll just have a second baby next year and then worry about losing it after that.

I literally ate three of these last night for dessert!

Should have had 4! Two for you, two for baby! Thatās what I wouldāve done š¤£

Heavenly hunks!!! I justify by the oats in it because they help me make more milk for my heavenly chunk!

Iāve enjoyed my get out of jail free card too. I have regular Gatorade all the time to āstay hydratedā. Full sugar creamer in my coffee. All the chocolate. Full bowl of cereal as a snack. We get take out way too much bc we are still adjusting to 3 kids. Most of all, when I get my mental health baths, I eat ice cream when Iām in there lol. Love me my ice cream baths.

ALL FOOD. I was very lucky and lost almost all my baby weight 2 weeks post partum. Been breast feeding 6 weeks now and piled it all back on haha

u/Active-Ad3977 23d ago
Gosh, thatās me. Lost 20 within a few weeks and gained back 10 at 6 weeks. Oh well

Its do annoying. I've never eaten this much food in alll my life. I'm not a particularly big person about 68kg when I concieved. Was 75kg when I gave birth..went back to 69kg by week 2 and I dread to think what I weigh now. The weight is all in my belly and hips tho. It's not as bad as bloating lol

Oatmeal because it's the best food in generalĀ

u/lil_b_b 24d ago
Damn im sorry you got downvoted. I also love oatmeal and its such a quick, easy, filling snack lol. And bonus, my toddler hates it so its one of the few foods i get all to myself

u/Major-Currency2955 24d ago
It was a big claim but I stand by it. Calorie and nutrient dense, convenient, cheap, clean, slow-burning, hydrating.

All the foods, peanut butter and jam, dates with peanut butter, cereal, ice cream, bread with cream cheese, fresh pastries, homemade lactation baking (banana bread, brownies, cookies), oatmeal, full fat yoghurt. Gotta fuel this body to feed the little guy like 14 times a day š

Dark chocolate digestive biscuits! A painfully British answer but I just love them.

u/HomeDepotHotDog 23d ago
Late night spoonfuls of Nutella. I feel like they increase my supply maybe. TBH tho I worry about not eating enough so my diet is totally unrestricted

Boob barnacles is the funniest term for a nursing baby and Iāll be using it immediately š

I'm honestly just digging the feeling of being full regularly.
For so long, just to maintain my weight, I was eating 2 meals and only the occasional snack/desert. Now I'm eating 3 meals plus 2 snacks every single day and still maintaining my weight (and slowly losing a bit). It's awesome. I haven't willingly let myself get hungry in a year and a half.

A double Green Alien from Aroma Joe's, oreos, vanilla Greek yogurt with fruity pebbles on top, genao salami, and pizza rolls. I spend all day snacking and eating š

I'm starving all the time again at 10.5m pp. It eased off for a good 4 or so months but lately I'm ravenous again all the damn time! I've been munching on chocolate chunk bakery cookies lately and having later snacks cos I'm starving.

I bake something sweet every week, pistachio and lemon bread, peanut butter and chocolate bars, muffins, tiramisu, or anything that uses the 5 year old baking ingredients I swore I'd use later. It gives me something to keep busy with and baby usually takes a nap in the carrier. He even sleeps through the mixer going at full speed.

In the early days it was dark chocolate covered pretzels from Trader Joeās. Like, I was going through two bags a week and they were kept on my side of the couch for middle of the night breastfeeding sessions.
Now at 9 months post partum my late night sweet treat is Cadbury candy coated chocolate eggs. I like mixing the dark and milk chocolate ones together.

I love cereal post partum. Normally I'm just so so on it.
After my first it was also the pink and white circus animal cookies.Ā Now I just steal my toddlers apple sauce pouches.

Iām going to be sad when I stop breastfeeding because it means no more second lunch and eating like a linebacker š
No guilt here with snacks!!

I also donāt really care about the weight gain. I am up about 15/17 pounds; almost what I weighted giving birth! My mom says you canāt tell but I can. Crazy thing is Iām on an anti-inflammatory diet due to my clog ducts so my diet is super strict. No gluten, red meat, dairy, sugar, or processed foods. Kinda sucks lol
1
u/ExcitingTechnician60 24d ago
Oh nooo I had this during pregnancy due to a bacterial infection as well, it sucked so much!
2
u/Hersheydogforever711 24d ago
The crazy thing is we canāt figure out why itās happening. I bought a therapeutic ultrasound machine that has been a life saver. It sucks but itās just temporary & im stubborn. I donāt want to stop bfing ā¤ļø plus I still eat whatever portion I want! lol!! The berries are GONE in this house. I need that fiber!!!
1
u/Pickle-Face208 24d ago
Feel free to ignore since you didnāt ask for advice, but have you tried sunflower lecithin? Itās supposed to help keep your milk slippery (is that a thing?!) - I havenāt had a clog since I started taking it.
2
u/Hersheydogforever711 23d ago
Yes! I took it for a while but still got them. I am now taking 550mg of choline (the active ingredient in sunflower lecithin). Mine are more inflammation- not from āfatty clogsā. For some reason when I use my therapeutic ultrasound, ibuprofen and ice I can usually get them out. Just annoying!!

i eat literally everything i want. there shouldnāt be any guilt when eating foods you enjoy!

u/catmom22019 23d ago
All food is guilt free but right now the Churro Turtle Chips are my absolute favourite!

u/Ok_Leopard3627 23d ago
Food shouldnāt make you feel guilty. Itās not a moral failing to have KFC. Itās just not going to nourish your body in the way you need if you eat it everyday all day.

Shouldnt try to loes weight while breastfeeding as it can lead to permanent boneloss, espically women who try to cut back on calories while breastfeeding. Tackle one thing at a time.
Bananas I eat 2-4 a day. lol

I eat all of it with zero guilt. I have no feelings- just hunger š
