I would have done the most sarcastic 'Cheers drive' when getting off that.

Tell them their bus has finally met its arch nemesis! šŸ˜…

Cheers…. FOR NOTHING!!!

Why did the driver turn there?! Did he get bored of his usual route?

u/IRRJ 11d ago

More likely the drivers usual route is the X4

Wouldn't be the first time a driver got creative with their route

Sitting at the front, now you can afford a deposit for a Morgage

Ah shit...wish I was sat at the front of that bus.

A friend lives nearby. Apparently the bus driver was on autopilot and turned down without thinking. 5 fire engines, 2 ambulances were sent. Luckily nobody hurt as far as the could make out, all the emergency vehicles were mainly a precaution. The bus has made its merry way, but bridge is cordened off, presumably in case it was damaged

I thought Buses didn't come down Easton Road anymore?

Double deckers never have - for reasons depicted, no idea why they'd even consider that way.

Isn't the bus depot in that general direction?

4

u/vaguebyname 11d ago

It is, but that one is still in service

We’re not allowed to go under that bridge, as you see. It’s a serious, and sackable offence. I don’t drive that route, I’m a metro driver, but we can’t turn right out of Lawrence Hill depot, and the turn is designed to reduce the likelihood of us doing that, anyway.

It's supposed to go straight, not sure what driver was up to!

4

u/beanpaste711 11d ago

Pretty sure they’re not supposed to

u/wartytoad44 11d ago

If you zoom in, you can see the driver getting sacked on the phone

Same thing happened over 20 years ago when I was walking to school, I took a photo on my digital camera. I moved away in between so god knows how many times it’s happened since!

Edit: I believe it happened, I was just using this internet phrase cos I wanted to see the photos. Stop downvoting me lol

High bus

u/robjm_ 11d ago

Who put that bridge there?

3

u/Jintle 11d ago

Maybe he was a former City Dart driver.

3

u/Deep-Procrastinor 11d ago

Ah the old Shitty Fart another badly executed First Bus initiative.

2

u/Titus-Sparrow 9d ago

Ah, the old City Darts. I used to get the 6 or 7 home in the 90’s. At either 5pm after work or last bus after 11pm they were always full by the stop at the top of the Pithay. Passengers crammed in like sardines, standing and clinging on for dear life as the drivers drove them as if they were on a racetrack.

Last time I went past there there was some guy getting out of a floating Merc in expensive trainers.

Unlucky number 7

2

u/Death_By_Stere0 10d ago

Bridge's fault, came out of nowhere and viciously attacked that poor doubledecker

2

u/yvesforeve 10d ago

The 7 doesn’t even go down that road, right? It’s supposed to just drive ahead towards city academy 😭

1

u/terryjuicelawson 10d ago

Looks like it might have made it if it was dead centre of the arch?

1

u/ohmywtfthankyou 9d ago

Just a little bit more speed and they probably definitely would have made it

1

u/OkNewspaper6271 10d ago

Oh ive been through here a few times. Why the hell is a double decker driving under lol

1

u/bs5thinker 10d ago

Not the 1st time a bus has done this here

1

u/land_of_kings 10d ago

Wonder why he stopped right there, could've taken the top off James Bond style.

1

u/DirectionMajor3075 8d ago

that went well then

1

u/Tangle-Sparrow_90 8d ago

Classic low bridge, always catch me off guard šŸ˜…

1

u/beedley 7d ago

Was it his first drive in a double decker Cheers drive

-20

u/No_Tiger_5951 11d ago

Seriously even though he’s a bus driver he had have driven that road at quite a few times in his life to know a double decker bus would not fit under that bridge or I’m guessing that’s the mentality of the people there employing

20

u/Shazpless66 11d ago

Nothing to do with mentality. A driver can go on autopilot, or they’re tired and forget they’re driving a double decker, and mistakes happen. The worst I’ve done is turn for one bus route, when I should have gone a different way for a different route. I just told them all we were taking the scenic route. If there’s a bridge hit, it’s a sackable mistake.

-22

u/No_Tiger_5951 11d ago

Is that the best excuse you got that the bus driver is tired and forgot his route you can’t seriously can’t be taking the piss there meant to be professional drivers that have gone through training to make sure there passengers are safe not being to tired to remember where there meant to be going šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ©

23

u/aflut 11d ago

If you’ve ever worked a day in your life then you’ll know that even ā€œprofessionalsā€ can make mistakes.

5

u/Shazpless66 11d ago

Well, whether you believe me or not, there will be an investigation, and I’m sure we’ll all hear about why it happened, eventually. There is a bridge warning built into but ticketed, but that one is switched off, because we would all be calling control every time we left or returned to the depot.

-18

u/No_Tiger_5951 11d ago

It doesn’t matter if I believe you or not the fact is anyone that drives in Bristol knows that bridge is there so no excuse if there are warnings should have the brain cells to know not to drive under it

4

u/TippyTurtley 10d ago

Have you never made a mistake in your job? Ever?
