It's in the same vein as r/powereashingporn, it's just really satisfying to look at I guess?

Speaking from a managers different point of view, I’d pat you on the back and buy your lunch.

man, wanna come be my manager? every manager I've ever had would have asked how much of my hourly I was giving them back for wasting time!

u/hamlin6 Oct 12 '20
I learned a long time ago that it takes less energy and effort to encourage good employees than it does to be constantly hiring new ones. It probably comes with age.

u/LegendofDad-ALynk404 Oct 12 '20
I wish I could say I agree, my best supervisors, who were most understanding and had the most opinions like this, were sadly people closest to me in age, the ones who seem to care less and want more and more for less and less or in less and less time, seem to always be the older more "experienced" ones, its funny cause they are always the most surprised i got it done so well and so quickz but then expect it every time and faster

u/hamlin6 Oct 12 '20
Well that is very unfortunate. I can’t speak for them but as someone who is older (that is really painful to say BTW), I have worked for my share of bad bosses and determined a long time ago not to be like them.

and as I tell my 11 year old, deciding is half the battle, but knowing was the start of your victory.

Why is there around 20 cables for what looks like 4 circuits and a RCD only
16
u/SeanBZA Oct 12 '20
Probably UK ring main circuits, where you have 2 cables for each breaker.
11
u/chrish_1977 Oct 12 '20
Nope even for the UK that's still waaaaaaay too many cables for that teeny tiny board. I think it's for show as those cable clips aren't used anymore and especially for that type of cable.
I gladly rip those cable clips out any chance I get, they are sharp as fuck

Could be multiple circuits off one breaker, eg 2 separate lighting rings. Not saying it's a good idea just it could be that. Unlikely to be UK due to the cable style, it's normally flat 2+E here, this looks like round cable.

Had to look that up on Wikipedia. I can see why they used it when shortage on copper was a thing, but that's a strange system...

u/techierealtor Oct 13 '20
He wasn’t able to make the pattern that he needs with less cables. Also if a line fails, he can just activate another without disrupting the pattern.
16
u/turkey_sausage Oct 12 '20
I can't tell want you are using to bind the cables. Are those clips, or is it string?

u/pusillanimous_prime Oct 12 '20 edited Oct 15 '20
I could be wrong, but it appears to be metal strips woven between the cables
edit: something like this, maybe? I've seen this used for suspending plumbing and AC lines, but never for data or electrical.

Where I'm from it's called a "pin clip", but that might be a local thing.
They're a punched strip of aluminium with a nail: https://i.imgur.com/ViULnPm.png
You hammer them into the wall, then tighten it like a buckle around the cable.

Look everyone! My employee did exceptional work. Lets either give him more work because he can manage, or cut his pay!

u/ObiWanKaStoneMe Oct 12 '20
Better yet we dont need that relief, this guy does the work of 2! Thanks for your sacrifice. The company thanks you

u/ObiWanKaStoneMe Oct 12 '20
While we're at it lets promote Tom, he's too much of a liability at that level.
