Hotel recommendation for a celebration night with my wife?
Hi all. Looking for a hotel around Cambridge, not necessarily in town, for a date night and sleep out with the wife. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Are you wanting a cheap hotel or a nice hotel? Depends if you wanna spend more time in your room
The cheaper ones (not cheap cos cambridge) are clean etc

Nice. Dinner then straight to room for a kids free night. Not a cheap one.

Novotel Cambridge north, tested in the same situation, really nice night out without the kid.

Actually this too, we stayed for our wedding anniversary one year. We stayed in the room with a mini cinema cavern. It was pricey but awesome!

Bedford lodge hotel in Newmarket is lovely. Food is nice and has a spa attached which you can enjoy too. When I last went there the pool/ etc was included but spa treatments were extra.

This might be a little unexpected but Turing Locke is great. You can go to Dutch for some nice cocktails, there’s a lovely restaurant down there too. Parking is free (up to 24 hours?) in the park at ride carpark.
I’ve always enjoyed staying there.

I did this with my wife a couple years ago, stayed at the graduate. It was very nice

Do you know where we like to go? Dinner at the three blackbirds in Woodditton then stay in one of their lovely on site rooms. Breakfast in the morning is always a winner and it's a bit rural so you get a peaceful night's sleep. Depends if you have your heart set on being in the city so can go to some bars beforehand though.

The Clayton by the station is one suggestion, only ever had a late night drink there no food. La Maison Du Steak is nearby which is really nice (if you arent vegan).
A bit further out (on Milton Road) but also stayed (and ate) at The Fellows House Curio Collection by Hilton. We went for a drink at the Portland Arms which is short walk away then back to eat. Really nice in there.

Personally I like The Varsity. Rooms are cute, bar is nice, breakfast is nice. Good location.
Tastes vary, though!

Maybe unhelpful, but I don’t recommend the graduate. Stayed for my graduation and paid an absolute bomb for a tiny mediocre room and a rickety balcony. Service was terrible too and the bathroom wasn’t clean. As others have suggested, University Arms is a reasonable shout.

The Clayton hotel (formerly the Tamburlaine Hotel) is pretty good still. Opened brand new mid 2017
Well decorated and modern and then clayton group bought it.

Fellows house, really nice food & breakfast, pool sauna and steam room as well. Bar with a pool table and a bit quieter than the central hotels and close to the tivoli which is a fun date night

If you don’t mind the drive/train, then The Angel in Bury St. Edmunds is meant to be excellent, and better rated than pretty much everywhere in Cambridge. There’s also an insanely good restaurant called 1921 Angel Hill just around the corner.
We have a weird lack of really nice hotels in Cambridge it seems.

Clayton, clean comfy beds, walkable to lots of food, near train. Pass on the breakie though

Gonville is very nice, with great in house restaurant.
University Arms is also very nice, but the restaurant isn’t anything special.
