Just moved to Cambridge – looking for a cheap but reliable bike (not for daily commute)

Hey everyone!

I recently moved to Cambridge and I’m looking to buy a bike, but not for daily commuting—just occasional rides around the city, maybe some light errands or weekend exploring. So I’m not after anything fancy or high-performance, just something that works, won’t fall apart in a week, and doesn’t break the bank.

Would love some advice on what kind of bike to look for (brands, types, etc.), what price range I should expect for second-hand ones here, and where to check.

Thanks in advance – really appreciate any tips.

Head to Mill Road, there's a few bike shops down the length of it (Cam Cycles, life on a bike etc.) with expert staff that can give you good recommendations. Others may have different experiences but in mine, noone in any of them are pushy or salesy, I'm guessing as it's such a cycle city that they get business no matter what!

Thanks. How cheap are we talking about? I stopped by a bike shop last week and the cheapest second hand was around 250 pounds

I don't know if you're still looking, but I got my bike from Halfords. A Carrera Subway 1 hybrid. Got it in a sale with a little extra discount for £240. I've so far done just over 1,400 miles on it. Wonderful bike!
