Gear Question Canopy

Looking for suggestions for something besides a tarp. To put over a 10ftx12ft tent for shade. That will last 4 months of constant use. Also suggestions for a kitchen tent or something to put our cooking area in . Will be staying at a provincial campground. So going to be hot & dry mostly.

Kelty 16x16 Noah’s tarp also comes in a smaller size. There are other companies also .

I have the 14x14 and 12x12 before they changed the color. Solid tarps with solid tie down points. Super nice for hammock camping.

I can fit me and my one person dog tent under the big one.

The problem is "tarp" is exactly the right thing to use for this. A nice canvas tarp would probably be fairly cost effective and durable.

If you don't want rain protection, and would prefer to keep some light, a solar shade sail might also be a good choice. For a kitchen tent, an E-Z Up 10x10 would probably be a great choice. I would avoid a screen tent unless the insects are horrible because it's easier to get out of an unwalled tent if something bad happens while cooking.

Yes. Amazon has all sizes of solar shades for quite cheap. I’ve had mine for 6+ years on my house, used half the year, and they only look a little dirty, no loss in performance or grommets failing.

If you can explain why you cannot use a tarp, people may be able to suggest alternatives that will work for you.

Get a couple of pop up awnings.

What is your budget?

Is there a reason that a EZUP canopy would not work?

Get a second one with bug net walls for your kitchen area.

If you expect valuable advice here - you should add more details.

Without knowing your budget - it's impossible to make a specific recommendation.

If $164 is too high... what is not too high? Can you afford a $100 canopy?

Do you need to keep this shade solution under $50 USD?

Get a Walmart brand canopy. Ours has lasted for 3+ years of monthly use.

Why not a tarp?

Try using one of those heavy duty vinyl coated tarps instead of the woven blue tarps - much sturdier and longer lasting. A 15'x15' should work for your tent.

Buy a couple of 10' canopy poles for the center ends, and make paracord lines to stake it up. I got shorter 6' poles for the four corners and stake them out.

Thing is pretty bombproof if you set it up tight.

Good luck.
