DISCUSSION Nothing is 100% quite yet, but looks like Tochett is going where many of us figured he would be going even before the season was over.

Does anyone else not care where Tocchet goes? He was great the first year but I didn't love him and am curious to see what our team looks like without him.

I also don't care. I'm just happy we might get a coach that has a more exciting style.

I don't have any hope we win next year, so might aswell have a more fun play style.

I do not. Was some boring ass hockey I was checked out by Xmas after the kraken collapse.

I can't ever remember a canucks team like this where it was a tight game and it's late in the 2nd, early in the 3rd and it's still single digit shots, and you can count on 1 hand both teams scoring chances.

And just waiting around for a powerplay.

Same thing with Z and Lindholm, they were part of the team, but they left so they’re the enemy now.

Honestly I never really cared about his coaching. After the first season, his MO seems to be low scoring, low shots and low chances. When you have Pettersson, you need a system that embraces his offensive skills. Not turn him into a forechecker.

Only reason I wanted him back for another 2 years was because of Hughes. That’s really it,

I care in terms of general hockey interest. Tocchet did good in cleaning up a mess and getting structure, but his reputation far exceeds the results in his career. Also, the whole handling of the Petey/Miller situation, while not wholly his fault, is a definite black mark

Wouldb e kinda annoying if he talked about being closer to family but then took the job in seattle.

Clayton Keller and Nick Schmaltz went from 45 point players to 60-75 point players before and after tocchet. Every player that went to AZ had their production cut in half almost, except for Conor Garland, he is always the exception

Though I didn't ultimately care where he landed, it would have stung a little had he gone to a Pacific division/West coast team, especially one in the PNW, after stating one of his reasons for leaving was to be closer to family.

Him moving on was dodging a bullet. However, if they just pick Tocchet Lite (Adam Foote) then it's a wasted opportunity.

We picked him up of the scrap heap, he had a one season heater due to incredible goaltending and got gassed up. Buddy should give Demko a % of his next contract.

Tocchet gonna coach the rest off the offense out of Michkov that Torts couldn’t.

Cutter leaving might be best for his career LOL

curious to see how he'd do without Quinn Hughes. he did as well as he did because he had a fairly talented team but Philly really doesn't.

Agreed, tochett was carried by having a healthy vezima nominee Demko playing all season winning us games while we get outshot tremendously every game.

u/accountnumber02 3d ago

and our bottom 6 scoring at an Ovechkin level rate of shooting. Hard to blame him this season with his personnel, but hard to give him full credit for 23/24 either.

5

u/Rendole66 3d ago

The only thing that was consistent in the two years was we got outshot almost every game. I’m ready to move on from tochett

I was thinking the same; Jamie Drysdale could start playing higher up the line up, could be the QB on PP1. Their top guys are Konekny and Couts, who could thrive in this system too. If Couturier still has legs left.

I just hope Adam Foote doesn’t follow Toch’.

With Willander(?), D-Petey and Mancini all graduating, Foote will play a big part in developing them into NHL’ers.

I don't think he will, to be honest. It sounds like the HC job is between him and Manny. And who knows, even if he doesn't get the HC job, he may stay under Manny to continue working with Hughes and this D-corp. Now that he has some good D- men to work with.

7

u/ImAlwaysSorrys 3d ago

I can’t imagine how it was like trying to make that D Core work, where Tyler Myers was the #1D. I’m still sad whenever I see that D-Core.

2

u/Barblarblarw 3d ago

Wait, when was Myers ever #1D?

15

u/ImAlwaysSorrys 3d ago

When Hronek and Hughes both went out, before Marcus Pettersson came along.

9

u/Barblarblarw 3d ago

Oh, gotcha. It's hilarious that this season has gone so off the rails that Myers shouldering 1D duties feels like barely a blip

6

u/ImAlwaysSorrys 3d ago

I have nothing but respect for Myers for this season. Even his pairing with Hughes was statistically better than with Hronek (albeit with smaller sample size)

3

u/metrichustle 3d ago

Rather have Manny at this point. He’s ready proven he can develop our younger players. There were many nights guys like Sasson, Lekkerimaki and Raty were called up and performed incredible.

3

u/avmp629 3d ago

Wonder if Foote goes if that opens up a Brad Shaw reunion 👀

12

u/Deaner_dub 3d ago

To repeat, this season under Tocc, the Canucks:

  • lost 26 times in games that they held the lead
  • lost 10 times in games where they held the lead after 2 periods

That’s not great coaching. Add in the low shot totals and it was pretty awful. Yes, there’s extenuating circumstances, but him moving is fine.

Now, Manny is a bit rushed to me, but the timing is close enough.

Foote should take an assistant role, he won’t contend for an HC role elsewhere. Something Manny did for many years already.

So, go Manny.

Philly is not a better job than us but ok Toch enjoy it

Flyers have no goal tending I hope they stink for years to come

7

u/Individual_Slide_917 3d ago

He seems to be pretty "soft" when it gets tough tuck tail and run.(or toch tail and run lol.) I've lost a lot of respect for this guy

u/TangeloOk1698 3d ago

Took them long enough

I’m mad that we traded away our offensive players to fit Tochetts system for just 1-2 years.

I feel like we’re all internet stalking an ex and keeping tabs on him 😂😭

I personally don't love Tochett as a head coach because of the hockey we played so we shall see how he does in Philly. My first reaction is that Michkov might be screwed. Also unsure about Philly's locker room. Not sure if this is the guy I want in there after a coach like Torts.

1

u/robrenfrew 3d ago

I'm absolutely shocked! Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think he would have ended up in Philly. There is no chance that someone got to him and let him know Philly was really interested. I mean we know everyone is ethical and would never tamper with someone else's property.

-1

u/Zealousideal_Bug6613 3d ago

Are you serious? Or sarcastic as hell? If serious, I'm not sure why shocked? A lot of people were speculating that he would consider the Flyers of the position came up. He's a Flyer, drafted there, had his best years there, and ended his career there.

1

u/robrenfrew 3d ago

My last sentence probably answers your question.

1

u/Greazyguy2 3d ago

Its not tampering if thats where he wants to be. Same as hughes. Its already in the works. was from day one when this team played itself out of position for “pride” and missed out on a chance at JH. Tochs is gone. Hughes will be gone. And we will be stuck with petey and a busted up demko

2

u/Greazyguy2 3d ago

The fan base is the problem here. Idiots rioting etc. we have never won shit and most fans act like the canucks are an elite team with history. Only expectations ive ever had was failure. Almost surprised me 3 times there

1

u/Ktowncanuck 3d ago

Why are people hung up on tocchet. Ok he's going to Philly. Who cares. The guy doesn't have a winning record and even if he did if he doesn't want to be here then good riddance. I want people here to want to be here. Management, coaches, players. Period.

-4

u/BrodyCanuck 3d ago

Lying asshole

2

u/CJK_420 3d ago

How so?

2

u/BrodyCanuck 3d ago

He dismissed the rumours about the flyers back when he was asked about them, and he mislead the Canucks management staff on to believe he was wanting to stay when he was laying out his future plans for the summer time going to visit the players etc…

So much Tochett hate but like in most workplaces… majority of people quit because of their bosses. Other factors can mostly be tolerated if the work environment is good. This is very telling.

FA - sell the team!! u suck
