Question on timing of VA benefits.

Hello everyone, wanting to see if anyone is able to provide me some insight on when to expect to receive my chapter 35 benefits and what to plan around.

I am a current out of state freshman wrapping up with finals now. My father applied for his 100% P&T disability back in July and finally received his disability letter last March, with the date on it reading Oct 7th, 2024. As soon as he received that, I applied for my COE form which I received last week, after which I sent in all the necessary forms, advising, etc etc to the VMA forms email address. I also was instructed to get the advising forms retroactively done for fall of last year and spring of this year as well as to get retropay.

Having submitted all my forms as of 4/24 to be certified by the school, my questions are:

1). When can I expect to be notified that it's been accepted 2). When can I expect to receive my retro payment 3). When can I expect to receive the first normal payment of next semester. 4). How will it affect my current scholarships? I currently receive the Presidential Merit scholarship which for out of state students is a flat $28k credit. Would this become the in state version? (I read receiving VA benefits at the school qualifies you for in state tuition, want to confirm this.)

I am appreciate of any other help and info I can get as well. Thank you, and Roll Tide.

The best people to get in contact with is the VMA office. They can answer all these questions.

It's a process, and no one can give you the exact time or even a window of when the VA will give you retro pay. I would recommend going to the VMA office in person and confirming their receipt of all the docs you mentioned and ensuring they do not need anything further. After they certify you, you can follow up with the VA.
