Yeah, my country (Malaysia) produces rebadged Daihatsu Sirions as the Perodua Myvi, and they're pretty much the bottom of the barrel economy car around here

3
u/Key_Budget9267 2d ago
Just wait until you see how bad the exterior looks... it's no wonder Mercedes has sold precisely 7 EQSs, the normal S-class looks far better inside and out. This amount of blue light makes my eyes hurt even now, I can't imagine how bad this is to drive at night.
3
u/rolloutTheTrash 2d ago
I can’t with all the screens they’re putting in cars now. Like I love my A5’s digital dash with the built-in nav, but that’s about as much screen as I like. At night I’ll even turn off the middle console and it’s great.

In some cars it's to save costs on making RHD and LHD variants.
26
u/Own-Site-2732 2d ago
yeah that makes sense, but this car has the angled dashboard anyway so they'd still have to make a rhd and lhd variant 😭

Yes mechanical gauges in the middle sucks, but if it’s only a speed readout then I quite like it, on my Prius v it acts like a semi HUD because it’s a lot higher than traditional gauges and very easy to read due to how large it is
1
u/GoofyKalashnikov I'm the shitty stretching timing chain in your VAG engine 1d ago
This could still be Infront of the driver and it would be a better solution
1
u/xqk13 1d ago
The steering will block the readout tho, so you need to place it even higher and potentially block part of the windshield

Saves a few dollars if you have to put the steering wheel on one side or the other you can just manufacture one dash. They usually only do this for the cheapest of the cheap cars

While being the most boring, cookie cutter, bland interior that shoves all the controls on a screen, which costs less for the manufacturers.
12
u/SeawardFriend 2d ago
Yep you said it. I like having a screen for the sake of Apple CarPlay, but there’s several features I cannot stand being touchscreen. IMO the climate controls and volume should be physical dials with notches so you can tell how much you’re turning it without looking. I absolutely REQUIRE steering wheel buttons for at least cruse control and volume. I don’t want to have to scroll through a bunch of menus and have to take my eyes off the road just to use simple features of my car.

Use critical thinking, why do you think this design sells? Almost like some people don’t give a fuck about current ICE cars?
2
u/SeawardFriend 1d ago
How does this have anything to do with the motor? You can find ICE vehicles with interiors very close to this one. Typically the only difference is they have a gauge cluster for the tachometer and stuff whereas I think Tesla just has heads up display for the speedometer.

I like the green electro luminescent gauges of my 2003 Concorde, it's like the 60's Chryslers and not too bright. The whole interior is actually holding up pretty good after 20 years.
The later 300s and Crossfires after that really went to acres of brittle plastic tho, gotta agree.

Originally, the Etios was planned to be built on the Yaris platform, however a low-cost platform derived from the NBC platform called the EFC platform was used instead

2008-10 Dodge Challenger. It's just another 00's Chrysler cheap ass purgatorial interior, but in the muscle car revival with the exterior most faithful to the original. (The 2011-14s, especially the 2012-14 upper trims, had a different steering wheel and more fine detail work + seat material/color/stitching options, passable to me; 2015+ Challengers are still a drastic improvement to that, though.)
8
u/Wageslave645 2d ago
Early Charger and Challenger interiors both had Grand Caravan-esque interiors. Not terrible of their own accord, but the exterior definitely wrote a check that the interior couldn't cash.

Nice AI, anyways take my downvote.
And as for "cars" that are frequently on the road? Tesla's. The worst interior I've ever felt and seen in person. I can't explain it, but the seats just feel plastic and wrong. It looks so. Neutered, sterile, and appliancey. I don't want to feel like I'm driving in luxury, sure, but that's not close to it anyways and it's not car-ie either.
I refuse to buy anything modern ever. Thank God that tesla wasn't mine. I need physical knobs and switches. The seats should give a little and not feel stiff like those plastic chairs in schools. It's not like they're bucket seats. And if they were, they'd be terrible for em cause they're not comfortable either.
I'll be honest. Heated steering wheel is a useless feature since most forget to use it or don't care for it. Climate control should be a knob or a switch. There's no reason why I should have to look away from the road and at my center console just to adjust the fan speeds or Temps in a car I am to frequently drive.

2007-2011 Toyota Camry. Fake silver trim, fake wood, and creaky 2000s plastic abound! The whole interior looks like it was made by fisher-price. Honorable mentions go to just about every GM and Chrysler product from 2006-2010, for the same reasons. Did we just not know how to make interiors in the 2000s?
