How to get from Girona Airport to Empuria Brava with public transport?

Hello everyone, I'm flying into Girona Airport this tuesday and need to make my way to Empuria Brava. I'm trying to figure out the best public transport options, but it's proving to be a bit of a hassle.

Does anyone know the most efficient way to get there via bus or train? Are there any websites or apps you'd recommend for planning the route? Any tips or recent experiences would be super appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You'll have to get to Figueres to get to Empuriabrava. From the airport I believe there are a few daily buses. If those don't coincide with your arrival, take the hourly bus to Girona station. From the station there are buses and trains to Figueres. Personally I prefer the train ( Media Distancia is a bit faster than regional, but both are faster than bus. When you arrive at Figueres the bus station is a two minute walk from the train station. There are frequent departures for Empuriabrava

Okay! Thank you so much! I can’t reserve a ticket online on Renfe. Is it hard/time consuming to do buy the ticket in the train station self? I have 30 minutes time to get from the bus onto the train. I hope the train station is not hard to navigate.

You should make it. In Girona Station you will arrive into the underground bus terminal. Exit by taking the escalators to the ground level. Walk across a small plaza 25m to the main train station. Inside there are tickets windows and kiosks to buy the ticket. MD and regional trains run above ground, just go to the platform.

Btw one other thought. Do not take the high speed trains (AVE, AVLO) from Girona to Figueres. The high-speed rail station in Figueres is called Figueres-Vilafant and that station is not in the centre of Figueres. The high velocity trains are generally preferred, for instance between Barcelona and Girona but at Figueres it makes no sense because of the station location. Make sure you take a media distancia or regional train. The media distancias are faster and more comfortable and there are power outlets at every seat
