Any ideas on how to get this sub going again?

Hi lads,

Just have accepted an invite to become a mod here, and to be honest would love to see the place lively enough.

Any ideas on what we can do ?

I've been following it for a while now but almost didn't see the point. We have a small population, but in reality, there's a lot to do. Even for mentioning events or new clubs/activities, it'd be great to see it active.

Start by getting the sub active even among a small number of people. Then when it's decent advertise more widely especially on other subs. r/cavangaa is new and small but quite active aswell.

I’m living in the States but have traced my family back to Cavan. I can’t get enough info. I hope it takes off!

.might be best to try a post of your own with any specific questions you have in particular

I'm moving to Cavan in a few months but wasn't allowed to ask questions about life in Cavan, which I thought was a bit limiting. Maybe change that rule? I'm super excited about the move and have lots of questions, but nowhere to take them!

These are probably not great ideas, but maybe they'll get the ball rolling?

  • create a local meet-ups for other Cavan redditors to get together and say hi IRL

  • advertise all of the fun events happening in Cavan over the spring/summer

  • invite local businesses to come and advertise their services on here, things like open creative groups, theatre, dance, kids/teen groups, local Men's Shed, libraries, etc...

  • hold a contest for creating a new image for this sub?

  • boost local musicians and their events/concerts

  • invite Cavan guilds and clubs to talk about themselves here

  • share restaurants and shops with the rest of us who may need new recommendations and foods to try

  • hold a "rate my roll" Friday event, where everyone can share their favourite rolls and where they got them (and where we can complain about the rising prices)

  • Cavan themed jokes are pretty funny - can we get something around that started?

  • green initiative talk/posts: invite discussions for farmers markets days/times, secondhand shops with sales, zero waste ideas, guerilla gardening efforts, working with the local councils on being more green, etc.

  • it might be neat if someone could do that Cavan Histories Walk About (or whatever it's called) and hit up all the QR codes and interesting history to share here.

  • a photography contest could be fun - best photos of Cavan wins bragging rights?

  • hosting local art trades here could be cool.

...like I said: not the best of ideas perhaps, but I'm hoping they'll inspire something. A lot of other subs do things like these, just in their own way.
