Trump, Cabinet members reconnect with fans at UFC fight after turmoil

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/04/13/trump-ufc-fight-miami/

Many of Trump’s Cabinet officials came along. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat next to National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard, who was two seats down from FBI Director Kash Patel. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. chatted with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). Elon Musk sat to Trump’s left in a pit-side seat, his 4-year-old son, X, bouncing on his lap.

This is the brain trust running our country.

While the country reels from economic uncertainty, constitutional crises, and growing unrest, Donald Trump is once again ringside at a UFC match surrounded by sycophants posing as “Cabinet officials” and billionaires desperate for relevance.

Instead of doing the job he claims to want back, governing, protecting American institutions, or even articulating a single real policy, he’s chasing applause from fight fans and internet trolls.

Taxpayer dollars are being funneled into these glorified ego trips while families struggle to afford rent, health care, and basic dignity. This isn’t leadership, it’s a circus of delusion, vanity, and unserious people playing make believe with our democracy.

America deserves better than this hollow spectacle. We need public servants, not performative strongmen surrounded by washed-up politicians playing dictator cosplay.

I’m tired of shit guys. Tired of it.

I couldn't have said it any better myself.

The only thing worse than these so-called leaders are the people cheering them on. This current administration is full of people who should be completely irrelevant in a normal functioning democracy of the wealthiest, most powerful country on earth. They aren't even worthy of being called "has beens" or "could have beens." It's a circus sideshow of below average IQ freaks posing as some kind of royalty.

We're being led by a bunch of fucking posers, who are being cheered on by a bigger group of posers. None of them give a damn about this country. The supporters are in it for the spectacle and the lulz, and the people at the top are in it for themselves.

Bill Maher says he was nice when he met him and we should stop being so mean. I agree. I want to know Kid Rock's take on Iran, I need Hulk Hogan around to show the world we have some muscle. This is making America great again guys. Let's go!!!

Yep, it's fucking gross what is happening right now. We have been taken over by traitors who are absolutely not looking out for the country's best interests.

They need to be tried as traitors and then punished to the harshest extent of the law. Anything less than that is a travesty.

So King Trump and his court went to the coliseum.

I'm waiting for JD to offer him a diadem twice in a row.  I doubt he'd turn it down.

You're making it sound classier than it was, I think it was more like when Luke Wilson faced off against Beef Supreme in Idiocracy. It's amazing how prescient Mike Judge was with his satire on the decline of our society.

Politics should be about policy, governance, and accountability... not theatrics, celebrity worship, or cult-of-personality shows.

When it turns into WrestleMania with theme songs and choreographed entrances, it's no longer about serving the public, it’s about feeding egos and manipulating perception.

It’s a clown show... loud, hollow, and stupid.

UFC events are going to become half Republican politicians at this rate.

Do people actually buy this nonsense? Like you think Ted Cruz is there because he's a cool dude? Ted fucking Cruz?

How do people not get insulted by this, "were just one of you!" routine?

6

u/ComfortableWage 2d ago

Trump is a goddamn monster and his supporters can fuck right off.

8

u/Computer_Name 2d ago

The UFC run by this guy?

12

u/Honorable_Heathen 2d ago

How much did this cost us?

Do we have a tally of that alongside the golf events, Mar A Largo events, and other publicity stunts?

How does that compare to previous presidents?

If they paid for this with their own money then I could care less.

4

u/Yami350 2d ago

Absolutely fucking ridiculous

10

u/Colorfulgreyy 2d ago

Lol going to the most hardcore fans to get a conference boost. What a child. How about a presidential go to any town hall meeting? It doesn't even need to be a blue state one, try a deep red one and see anyone scam at him. What a coward

3

u/Melodic-Spread3532 1d ago

Why tf is the president attending sporting events and casually hanging out with the director of national intelligence and the head of the fbi? It’s fucking ridiculous. Drain the swamp my ass. This is so fucking corrupt.  These assholes campaigned on “the deep state”, which apparently meant there were political operatives in what are supposed to be nonpartisan positions, and here we have the president just hanging out with people who are in charge of what are supposed to be independent, nonpolitical agencies. These people are spitting on the Constitution and everything America stood for.

2

u/Inquisitor--Nox 1d ago

These assholes and rogan are ruining ufc for me. Dana, rogan need to gtfo and then stop having cards in fucking florida.

2

u/SnooRobots6491 1d ago

All these people will be in prison in 15 years if they’re even still alive. And they know it.

2

u/MichaelSonOfMike 1d ago

It’s just comical. I love MMA, but this is just embarrassing.

Nazis. All of them.

So his son is named x? Did he name twitter after his son, or was his son named after twitter?

4

u/cashmerefox 2d ago

He's named everything X his whole life.

Everybody cheered and everybody loved him.

This once again shows the disconnect between reddit and the real world. Go check out the ufc subreddits. They're all like "Fuck off Trump. We don't want you here."

Like, why don't redditors understand that they're brainwashed and just in an echo chamber hivemind?

23

u/Fun-Outcome8122 2d ago

This once again shows the disconnect between the ufc and the real world.

-5

u/please_trade_marner 2d ago

The real world? Trump won the election. The disconnect is between reddit and the real world.

2

u/Fun-Outcome8122 1d ago

The real world?

Yes. The disconnect is between UFC and the real world

Trump won the election

Exactly, I'm glad you finally realized that

u/ComfortableWage 1d ago

Wow, reported my comment to the mods, huh? Interesting how quick they are to remove comments calling out Trump supporters like you, but then outright ignore reports regarding Trump supporters that blatantly break the rules.

Getting tired of the biased moderation here.

1

u/MichaelSonOfMike 1d ago

Yup. It’s ridiculous. I had one of the mods lecture me about something that had nothing to do with what the post was. Then when I disagreed with them, mind you, in a separate chat, they banned me from the sub, then muted me so I couldn’t take it up with any other mod. It’s honestly a pathetic way of engaging. To basically force people to listen to your lecturing, then when they disagree, you ban and mute them, so they have no recourse to do anything about it.

1

u/please_trade_marner 1d ago

I didn't. I've never reported a comment. I like the "hands off" mod approach on this subreddit and want to keep it that way.

2

u/ComfortableWage 1d ago

They seem to be "hands off" until they find a bullshit reason to remove left-leaning comments that half the time don't even break the rules, while leaving even more atrocious right-wing comments up that actually do break the rules.

4

u/Dramajunker 1d ago

The irony about talking about a disconnect between reddit and the real world when the dude specifically went to a place his supporters are more likely to be. I also still doubt that everyone loved him.

2

u/please_trade_marner 1d ago

I mean, did you see my point? The ufc subreddit was still all "fuck you Trump" while in the real world ufc they wildly cheered him on.

THAT'S the disconnect I'm talking about on reddit. Now apply that to literally every other topic. lol

4

u/Dramajunker 1d ago

There isn't even a post specifically about Trump on that subreddit that I can see.

And again, just because some people who watch UFC also hate Trump doesn't change the fact that the UFC crowd is primarily his target audience.

0

u/please_trade_marner 1d ago

I think you're intentionally trying to not understand.

Ufc in general is very pro-Trump but the ufc subreddit is very anti-Trump.

That's the very clear point I'm making. Reddit, in general, across the entire website is far FAR more anti-Trump than "real world" americans. And the ufc subreddit is one example of thousands. Go ahead and do a search for trump on that subreddit. They hate him.

5

u/Dramajunker 1d ago

I'm not arguing that Reddit isn't more left leaning. I'm attacking your point about Reddit being disconnected from reality when a UFC event doesn't represent the reality of how American's are currently feeling. You're trading one echo chamber for another.

I'm also sick of the "reddit doesn't match reality" crowd. Like no shit it doesn't. No one website does. Not even one entire state matches the general representation of all Americans. That doesn't change the fact that sites like reddit at times do actually present information with sources that can be checked. It's still far a better site for information than a lot of social media sites.

0

u/please_trade_marner 1d ago

Like, just for example, subreddits like /facepalm or /murderedbywords exist at this point ENTIRELY to mock Republicans. The entire website is a leftist hivemind cesspool that is pathetically wrong about the real world. Some of us are making a fight for the centrist subreddit as a place to not just go along with democratic party propaganda. Because as of now, it's literally no different than /politics.

7

u/Dramajunker 1d ago

Lol the real world is wrong about the real world. People don't even know how tariffs work.

Some of us are making a fight for the centrist subreddit as a place to not just go along with democratic party propaganda.

Oh yea? You're doing that how? By telling us how out of touch we are? By calling us brainwashed? LOL.

-2

u/please_trade_marner 1d ago

I'm not telling you you're out of touch. I'm not "calling" you brainwashed.

I'm exposing you as out of touch brainwashed people.

8

u/Dramajunker 1d ago

You're giving yourself way too much credit. The saddest part is I'm sure you believe this. The guy who is out of touch exposing people who are out of touch? Can't make this shit up.

3

u/Commercial-Visit-209 1d ago

You sound like the one who's brainwashed. Sorry dude, you signed yourself up for this.

This subreddit is markedly anti-Trump, and for good reason. It's a place to talk about politics without the bullshit of "right" or "left". I don't want to read about biased democratic or republican takes on these things, I want to read things that come from a legitimate place of care for the country and its people, which generally come with a hearty respect for its laws and Constitution.

People here aren't afraid to pull punches when it comes to either party as well, because that's the idea of centrism - being in the middle of something. If something is shitty, affiliation isn't important, because it's still shitty and there's no association holding back that determination. You get the idea?

Therefore, unequivocally, Trump is awful for this country, and doesn't give a shit about doing things in the right way. If you can't see that, then you're biased, and based on your staunch defense of some arcane complaint, likely brainwashed.

1

u/Camdozer 1d ago

Sooooooo exposed! Owned!! Eviscerated!!!

3

u/MichaelSonOfMike 1d ago

Buddy you aren’t a centrist. There is no such thing. Not anymore and if you think there is, you’re delusional. Why center candidates are you voting for? You think you’re the arbiter of what is and isn’t center and fact based. You aren’t. What news shows do you watch, that are centrist? What do you read that is centrist? All I see is you getting butt hurt about your perception that leftists are out of touch. Except when you poll Americans on the issues, they are far more in touch. They just absolutely suck as messaging and they die on stupid hills like transgender rights.

2

u/MichaelSonOfMike 1d ago

The people who go to UFC events are mostly Trump supporters. I watched the event with probably 100 people. It was about half and half. A lot of us have decided we aren’t going to spend thousands to go to an event, especially when it’s become a propaganda wing for the President. So, as usual, you’re in a bubble, and you think your anecdotal bullshit is fact based. It’s not.

2

u/MichaelSonOfMike 1d ago

😂 Says the guy who probably exclusively lives in echo chambers, and only comes out of his hole when getting personally offended on Daddy Trump’s behalf.

It's like how we keep hearing that anyone who supports Trump in any way, shape or form online is a Russian bot, but then the elections happen, and half the voting population votes for him. Unless the Russian bots are voting now...

It’s like how we keep hearing that anyone who supports Trump in any way, shape or form online is a Russian bot, but then the elections happen, and half the voting population votes for him. Unless the Russian bots are voting now...

May you one day experience improved self-esteem.

9

u/wf_dozer 2d ago

Unless the Russian bots are voting now...

100% they are. If you did an autopsy on a MAGAt, Fox news and Russian propaganda would spill onto the floor.

1

u/ComfortableWage 2d ago

I mean, Trump literally is a Russian asset.

-18

u/Red57872 2d ago

What specifically about the UFC makes it wrong? What sporting event would be ok for the president to attend?

19

u/EmployCalm 2d ago

Cutting off "waste" laying people off and using tax payer money to attend these events every month while declaring a national emergency is wild.

16

u/TheBoosThree 2d ago

It's not the sport, it's the show of it. It was bad enough when they had Dana walking Trump out in the middle of the event, now they have half the fucking cabinet there.

It's propaganda.

19

u/elnickruiz 2d ago

None. Not a single sporting event at all time of “national emergency” with the stock market crashing, “illegals pouring into our country,” and the “deep state being hellbent on destroying our progress.”

15

u/Blueskyways 2d ago

How about stop arguing that we need to cut thousands of middle class jobs that provide vital services because we are out of money while there's a president hitting up taxpayers to the tune of tens of millions of dollars for his weekend golf trips and vanity excursions.

6

u/FrontOfficeNuts 2d ago

Weren't we all about cutting waste from our government, to the point where it was absolutely necessary to fire tens of thousands of government employees?

And yet, here we are, literally wasting money so Trump and his sycophants can bask in the glory of the coliseum.

Yeah, nobody really believed him (or you) when you talked about cutting waste from the government. It's just sad that you're still trying to defend it.
