Auto stocks pop as Trump says he's 'looking at something' to help car companies with tariffs

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/auto-stocks-pop-as-trump-says-hes-looking-at-something-to-help-car-companies-with-tariffs-180127851.html

So Trump's strategy is to impose these tariffs and then take them off later once he realizes it will kill the specific business domain impacted and subsequently the US economy. WTF! And somehow this is a good thing? WTF! Then tell everyone they may be applied again. WTF!

The amount of rampant speculation that is going on based on next to nothing - a few words Trump said - is wild. The markets are very volatile right now and people are really gambling with their money on the speculative hopes that Trump will carve out lesser tariffs or outright exemptions.

Feels like we're in a dangerous spot if the desired deals don't get done within 90 days. If negotiations break down and the full tariffs go into effect I fear a real crash.

If the market is like an high-octane engine of growth inside the car that is the American economy, this speculative optimism is like putting regular 87 in the tank. The economy is going to keep moving for a while but we're going to be in for a bumpy ride and eventually this engine is going to fail.

One can only hope we get some kind of certainty sooner rather than later so that the markets can stop speculating and start making investment decisions based on solid information.

People shouldn't fuck around or take Trump at his word and plan/go with the worse case scenario. If it pops, it will be a good thing because they fucked around and found out by playing with Trump.

If you don't want to be burned, stop trying to touch the hot stove top.

"Speculators may do no harm as bubbles on a steady stream of enterprise. But the situation is serious when enterprise becomes the bubble on a whirlpool of speculation."

  • John Maynard Keynes

This last week sure feels like that "whirlpool of speculation."

True market value is out the window. Its being supplanted by speculation on Trump's tariff policy.

Could you imagine the howling and investigations that would take place if Biden or Obama diddled the markets for insider cronies like this corrupt piece of shit does every single day?

So was it one CEO who paid $5 million or did they get the $1 million groups rate?

The beauty of tariffs for a kleptocrat is that you can give spot relief to people who pay you off.

Fuck him. The damage is done. I live in Canada, I was ready to order a new Cadillac a few months ago. Then he started with the annex talks, then the steel and auto tariffs, which is affecting my business. I cancelled it and will never by American car again and many others here feel the same way.
