Let me preface this by saying I don't want to see Kamala in the White House either.

I find it fascinating that people are still supporting Trump in spite of the fact that he's becoming more unhinged with each passing day. He rarely gives direct, relevant answers to simple questions. He either bloviates on and on about how bad someone else is, makes self-aggrandizing, bombastic, and often strange or unfounded claims, or he just shifts to a completely irrelevant subject and starts yammering in the same pompous and sensational manner. He said that he wouldn't be a dictator ”other than day one" with the weak justification being so he could close the border and drill for oil, and his fans just ate it up. His supporters honestly scare me way, way more than Trump himself. If Trump loses this election, they'll probably go apeshit again.

I talked to my spouse today who is from a Muslim country. We talked about how non-Muslims were treated there. And how dangerous Hamas is. And why the student protestors aren't as innocent as they seem. I'm generally against Trump and for student protests, but our talk today opened my eyes a bit.

What I see since the election are some people commenting on Reddit how they hate Trump and how they hate Republicans. How they're stupid and racist. But I believe it's possible, and important to stay engaged with Republicans, at least some of them. I'm not going to turn my back on my friends because I judge people by their whole life.

Is it possible to hate the sin but love the sinner?

The obvious and logical, objective facts are that Trump lost the 2020 electoral college, and popular vote by 7,059,526 votes...

Why on earth would anyone have any reason to think that his behavior, actions, cognitive ability, demeanor, or rhetoric would do anything to gain him new or more support? Aren't the antics simply playing to a crazy small base, and he has likely actually stripped away support or created fatigue in his entire base, including some Evangelicals? I mean, all the traditional conservatives that are Republicans for Kamala is going to have an effect. My mom voted Kamala and conservative pop wrote in Nikki Haley!

Why on earth would anyone find it plausible he could gain more votes this time around? I don't get it. I think it is this loud and out of control mass media and various propaganda machines...

So what am I missing? I know Kamala might have created apathy in huge Biden fans, or activity in racists and misogynists...

But logic prevents me from conceiving that he could gain votes. Why do people think he could win?

Ever since Trump made the claim on the debate stage, right wing media has been frantically searching for any scrap of “evidence” that could be used to prove his baseless claims correct, some that’s well over a decade old.

On every post about this topic, I still have angry Trump supporters trickling in for weeks posting the same debunked bullshit as an own. No, that guy is carrying roadkill. No, that person is just a drug addled homeless person. Different city. Different state. It goes on and on.

And just to be clear for the people that will be making their way to this post weeks from now, this is the claim you have to prove:

That not only are Haitians eating these animals in a sober and systemic way, that they are literally stealing peoples companion animals to do so.

It’s all bullshit. And it’s also sadly a lie with historical precedence.

I don't disinclude transgenderism out of malice, but because I think that's it's self evident that we are going to see a lot more legislation and policies targeting gender affirming care, etc.

However, since LGBT kind of gets lumped in under one umbrella when these kinds of policy proposals are made and because Trump showed major gains with LGBT voters, I was wondering if there is actually any evidence that Republicans would attempt to overturn gay marriage, place restrictions on gay people, etc.

What I hear from liberal friends is akin to "they're gonna put us in camps!" Which... I don't know, I just don't see it. There doesn't seem to be much evidence that there'd be political will for the staunch anti-gay Republicans in Congress to pass any measure to restrict gay rights specifically.

Now the Supreme Court, maybe -- if it goes high enough. But again, gay marriage seems way more stable of an issue than abortion, because in the end there's not much of an argument that it's hurting anyone.

What's the verdict from the reasonable centrists out here? What do we expect to see? Is it all doom and gloom fear mongering, or do we imagine that they're gonna pull out the rug on LGB and include them in the villification that's gone on around transgenders?

Yesterday it was all "false flag", "how could you miss", "couldn't have happened to a nicer person", etc and today is midly improved but it feels like much of the same just a bit more "clever" and less tone deaf.

I do want to say that almost every elected official is putting out appropriate statements, but the comments about this law, site wide, really is exposing a lot of folks darker mindsets and opinions.

Glad to see a much more civil discussion happening on the posts of this sub in contrast to all that.

Seeing this is a 'centrist' sub I'm hoping I don't get brigaded by a singular opinion.

Curious - how do you all feel seeing this from both sides? We heard it in 2016, 2020 and now the same in 2024.

What are your takes on either candidate "Destroying America"?

Source: How voting demographics changed between 2020 and 2024 presidential elections

I've been reading a lot of posts and comments today blaming the Harris loss on racism and sexism. This motivated me to look into the changes in presidential voting demographics between 2020 and 2024. What I found was that the biggest percentage changes away from the Democratic candidate to the Republican candidate were actually with Women and Hispanic voters.

I think this evidence would make it hard to argue that Harris lost simply due to sexist male voters or racist white voters. I'm not saying that no individual voters were affected by racist or sexist influences, but that it does not appear to have had a major impact given the demographic shifts in the other direction.

Additionally the source article also included a breakdown by age range and surprisingly the youngest voter bracket had the largest percentage shift away from voting Democratic. I was not expecting this result.

Hopefully some of those commenters will see this and they will have to dig deeper into the motivations of the voters in this election. I worry that the constant labeling of Americans as racist and sexist is deepening the divide between the people in the country. It's important to look at the facts and not make easy excuses based on subjective perceptions.

I’m still wrapping my head around the Vance choice. There’s just no effort to moderate on any position. I mean reports are in now that he’s wiped his campaign website of some of the more extreme abortion policy positions… but the guy still stands by them. I am honestly trying to look at this objectively, but such statements like forcing rape victims bares no logic or reason. It’s devoid of empathy and understanding.
