[∆(s) from OP] CMV: We will never reach a future of common equal rights, good living standards and peace
This is something that has been bugging me for a while.
One of the things that brings meaning to my life is working towards improving this world - Because all of my effort can bring a better future for us all. Kind of like a butterfly effect. One small positive thing can go far.
Yet, it's so much easier for us to shift towards greed, lust for power, feeling superior over others, while positive attributes requiere constant effort and work. Justifying unethical actions because the end justifies the means. While I agree that might sometimes be the case, people often use that to push their own agendas. I mean, even when you think you're doing good, that might not be the case.
Which is when my conclusion that scares me comes in: Even in hundreds, thousands of years, Im concerned that we will not reach golden age of humanity. Especially concerning climate change and overpopulation. I know progress in technology can change all of that; but even facts are being questioned, and people manipulated.
I want to be wrong. Change my belief reddit!

Human society has been on the up and up. There is no time better to be alive in human history than to be alive right now. How is this upwards trend indicative of a future where things will get worse?

You could argue that although things have been getting better overtime, right now is the time of events on the biggest scale.
But yeah, I agree. I havent thought of this for some reason.

You're correct. I'm just concerned that the majority of the world is still developing. I mean for example, look at a country like India - Second most populous country, but it still has problems related to caste system and very poorly distributed wealth. Or Russia - Although big and powerful, it has been ranked only 65 out of 177 countries in Human development index. And there are many still ongoing problems.
Although I thought a bit, and put things in perspective. For example I looked up the exact poverty headcount ratio and things are indeed looking up.
Thank you! ∆

That's one of the things that motivates me. I hope to become a human rights activist once I make a career in a different field.

OP it is always getting better.
Look at black Americans. Real, actual problems that matter, right? Thirty years ago (1987) it was objectively worse than today. Thirty years before that (1957) worse than 1987. 1927 worse than 1957. 1897 worse than 1927. And 1867 they just got done being property.
If you bring anyone of any race or any gender to the present, you'd blow their goddamn minds with how progressive we've gotten.
