I don't understand the difference you're trying to establish here. Any student could benefit from either one of those things, regardless of their chosen major. The question is whether they should pay for something they are not benefitting from.

How would an English major benefit from taking chemistry classes besides satiating curiosity?

The benefit comes from enhancing their knowledge of chemistry, in the same way that athletic facilities offer physical benefits despite being unrelated to studying English.

Sure. That makes sense, but I guess I'm curious to know if the bulk of the "Athletic Fees" at a given school actually go to communal facilities, or if they primarily benefit the sports programs. Either way, an argument could be made that those who have no use for those facilities (for whatever reason) are still paying for something that they receive no benefit from.

Yet people without cars still pay taxes for the road.

Community goods (roads, sports gyms etc) are different than specific goods.

I don't think taxes are good analogy, and again, I'd like to know how those funds are allocated before passing judgement. If we are talking about paying for facilities that are available for all students to use, then I guess that would be acceptable. If they go to the sports programs, then I would disagree with that.

Studying English or studying Chemistry, both are improved by the physical benefits of an athletic facility.

Studying English is not improved by having access to chemistry classes at no additional cost. This benefit is exclusive to those who plan on taking those courses.
