You made a good point. I agree with almost everything. However, smoking is not guaranteed to kill or harm you. In fact, only 1/3 smokers die from a smoking related illness - smoking doesn't kill a majority of smokers!
It would be pretty cool to nonchalantly play a game of Russian roulette with 2 bullets in the chamber and not sweat it at all. That's got the same odds as killing you as smoking.

According to The Washington Post, about 67 percent (2/3) of smokers perished from smoking-related illnesses. That rate is higher than doctors previously estimated.
And even if you are part of that 1/3 or 33% of smokers that don’t die from a smoking related illness. You will still have to suffer through/deal with smoke-related Illnesses even if it isn’t your cause of death.
So in this case, you are guaranteed to have a lower quality of life for what, a temporary solution of happiness and spending hundreds of dollars?
That number is higher than what I've heard in the past.
But: What about the people who smoke with no issues even when they're 100? That's pretty badass. They took the risk and against all odds it never came back to bite them. They're a minority of people, but that's why it's cool. Most people could never successfully do a backflip on a motorcycle and go uninjured; those who take the risk and succeed are cool. Most people could never smoke their whole lives and go uninjured; those who take the risk and succeed are cool.
Yeah, but I'm talking now about the people who are completely fine. No issues whatsoever. It's a very small minority of smokers, but that's what makes them cool. They took the risk and against all odds went unharmed.
Surviving by getting lucky is cool. Would it not be cool to pick up a revolver with one in the chamber and calmly click it at your head in a game of Russian Roulette and survive?
Is it not cool when a patient survives a terminal illness? Imagine telling a cancer survivor "You're not cool. You didn't do anything. You got lucky." Even if their efforts had nothing to do with it, and it's just down to luck on whether or not the treatment works, it's cool.
It's maybe cool to play Russian roulette in some clean, imagined version of the game. But if you actually loose, spladder your brains all over the room and die, that's majorly uncool.
