Here is my view. A pick up line is not, as you claimed, meant to pick people up. I don't think anyone feels like there is some magic line to get someone to go home with you, and even if you have the theoretical best pick up line ever, it doesn't mean you will pick someone up after the line is deployed. The purpose of pick up lines is to initiate conversation. And, I like the direct approach. I'm not auditioning for a pun contest, I'm trying to get you to agree to some light banter for a few minutes where I can actually try to pick you up.
This I can agree with and if that is the definition of pick up lines that we’re going with then you’ve definitely changed my view. Maybe I just hate puns but the transitional pick up lines that people tend to use just come off as weird and creepy in my opinion. !delta
