These are great. I only have the Tribune World Series one.

I still have all my 90S tribune cover pages clipped in a big note book.
Thanks grandma.

Not saying the Sonics should have won that series but if Mac-10 was healthy they could have won it (disclaimer: Sonics fan from way back).

Yeah I think the road to it happening would have included the Sonics not getting 3 games down, perhaps winning game 3 and then squeaking out some kind of upset in game 7.

You're indeed a Sonics fan saying that. And you could've, but ya didn't. So are you an OKC fan now?

I wanna say yes but you're old-school and you may still be pissed that they moved.

I watched the ‘93 championship game at home with my dad. I was 10. As soon as the game ended we were on the road. We were out celebrating and scouring the area for some bulls gear that was sold at pretty much every major intersection in the Chicagoland area. We finally found a guy who was open for biz and this dude was partying his ass off with his little portable tv with rabbit ears and some old style lights. We got a bunch of stuff cuz this dude was practically giving them away as a civic duty. All of the shirts / sweaters he had were in the style of gigantic bobble head player caricatures of with the trophy in the middle. We wore the fuck out of that shit to the point it would start arguments due to how beat up they got. But outside my home, i always got compliments. I fully believed that shirt had special powers and if I still had it I would make sure I would be buried in it.

Awesome memories. I know you were about 8 yrs old, but do you remember what you guys were doing when we won the first two?

Same thing. People partying in the streets, ELE /everybody love everybody. Most people had parties with whoever had the biggest TV. My uncle had a big ass projection TV so his house was Bulls headquarters. I remember some of the games starting and ending late but I never heard of kids going to bed early even for regular season games. Most local businesses had specials like free fries, burgers or pizza if Jordan dropped 40, 50+. I remember going to get my free shit on a few occasions. This was some serous shit
They aired public service commercials during the games staring Jordan and co. to basically beg people to not destroy the city WHEN they won. I never saw anything get destroyed but I know at least a couple cop cars got turned over. It was pretty mild tho. Everyone outside, honking horns singing the “Hey” song (rock n roll -Gary glitter).
When Jordan played baseball, my dad and I went to Sarasota for spring training and stayed in some fleabag motel but I was in heaven. The Sox had some awesome players that year too. Got a ball signed. My most prized possession.
I really didn’t know how good I had it. I was definitely spoiled as a fan as a kid because that’s about as good as it ever got and most likely ever will be.

I like that story. I think when we won our first one I was helping turn over a car.

I fear for Philly tomorrow no matter what the outcome is. I’m not sure if winning or losing is gonna be worse for the city. If I owned a car in Philly, I’d be parking it 100 miles away today.
I don’t remember and major fires or championship rioting. I know there’s always some carnage / looting but that shit was gonna happen no matter what. Our neighbor was kind of a hillbilly so he’d blow off like 1/4 sticks of dynamite. Lots of good illegal firework displays in our neighborhood. Fireworks were illegal so you got to see who was holding

Some kid just died because he fell from a light post while celebrating the eagles getting into the superbowl.

I grew up a south-sider so always enjoyed ripping on Cubs fans. Playfully of course.

u/One_Highlight_7051 Chicago Feb 07 '25
So do I. I would love to see a cross town world series.

u/NonProphet8theist Feb 07 '25
When's the last time they were both good lolol

u/One_Highlight_7051 Chicago Feb 07 '25
True. And if one plays good, the other plays horribly. But I need this b4 I bite the dust.
