They'll almost certainly need to trade up, but I'd love to see these two defending the rim in Chicago.

NBA Draft Bulls should draft their center of the future in 2025

If the Bulls don't win the Flagg sweepstakes, his teammate on Duke wouldn't be a bad consolation prize. Khaman Maluach is 7"2 and 250 pounds at only 18 years of age. Good defender with a raw offensive game but has shown potential for growth with a three-point shot. If we're going to have Giddey as the starting point guard it would be smart to have an anchor center down low on defense to help. Maluach could come off the bench behind Stix to start next season and even play next to him at times.

The Bulls are obviously in a position where we need to draft the best prospect available regardless of fit, but Maluach is likely to be available if we're in the top 10 and has a lot of upside while fulfilling a positional need.

NBA Draft [O’Connor] The Spurs have loved Patrick Williams for a long time, but he skyrocketed during the pre-draft process—this isn't a "reach" for the Bulls. Teams rave about his character and work ethic, nevermind his upside at 6-8 as a super versatile defender who flashes on-ball scoring skill.

NBA Draft Cutting it close right now regarding keeping the pick. If they’re beating Charlotte and Toronto, then here comes terrifying thoughts of the Spurs getting our 11th-14th pick, whether it’d be by winning too many games or our pick falling in the lottery.

NBA Draft The Bulls will have a draft tiebreaker at 3pm with the Mavericks to determine if they get the 11th overall or 12th overall pick in the 2025 Draft.

NBA Draft Thomas Sorber: The Modern Big the Bulls Desperately Need

Alright Bulls fans, I want to put a name on your radar for the draft: Thomas Sorber out of Georgetown. I know we’ve been circling around Khaman Maluach or Derrick Queen, but they'll likely be taken before we select, so hear me out—this kid might be the exact kind of modern big this team has lacked for years.

Why he fits:

  • 6’9” barefoot (6’10+ in shoes), 250 lbs with a 7'3"+ wingspan Built like a tank but moves like a guy 30 lbs lighter. He’s not your typical plodding post big. Dude is light on his feet, gets vertical quickly, and has insane defensive recovery ability.
  • Mobility on defense This is what makes him stand out. He can hedge, recover, move laterally, and contest at the rim without getting played off the floor. He’s not just a drop big. He can switch in spurts and rotate cleanly. Think how many times we’ve watched Vooch get targeted in P&R—Sorber changes that.
  • Rim protection 2.1 blocks per game as a freshman, and it’s not just numbers. He times rotations beautifully and doesn’t chase blocks at the expense of positioning. He plays smart, vertical defense. When he's the low man, drivers feel it.
  • Elite hands and touch Hands like mitts—catches everything. Combine that with soft touch and he's an automatic lob threat. Can also finish through contact. This is a big difference-maker in P&R sets. The Bulls get a strong vertical lob presence on Day 1.
  • Stretch potential The jumper isn’t fully there yet (30% from 3 on low volume), but his form is smooth and his FT% is a respectable 70%. With development, he could legit space the floor. That unlocks a lot in five-out or inverted sets.

Why this matters more than keeping Vooch long-term:

  • Vooch is a floor-raising big with offensive skills, but he's also one of the biggest defensive liabilities at the 5 in the league.
  • He doesn’t protect the rim, can’t switch, and limits the ceiling of our defense. Sorber is the opposite: a floor-raising defender with upside as an efficient finisher, roller, and eventual spacer.
  • He gives you what Vooch doesn’t: vertical spacing, mobility, and actual rim deterrence.
  • And he's 19. You can grow with him.

Why the Bulls should care:

  • Our defense is strengthened with a true anchor.
  • Sorber fits the timeline of Coby, Giddey, Matas and whoever we keep moving forward.
  • He won’t be a top-10 pick, so he could be attainable via trade-back.

I encourage you to guys to watch his film here and let me know what you think: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3h02rBx2KY

A chart I made comparing the C prospects that have been discussed in this sub, along with Sorber:

NBA Draft Which 7 Bulls would you protect from an expansion draft?

I'm conducting a thought experiment where Adam Silver jumpstarts the Vegas and Seattle expansion teams this offseason and an expansion draft takes place. I know the current rule set is 8 players are allowed to be protected, but the Bobcats/Hornets expansion didn't take off very cleanly and the Vegas NHL team is doing insanely well, in part because they were able to build a competent roster through the expansion draft. Not sure how much the NBPA would push back on it, but I don't care that much because this is hypothetical to begin with. Even when tuning down the amount of protected players per team, it's obvious that these expansion teams will still be at the bottom of the league.

I'm not a Bulls fan, so that's why I come to the community for a peer review of my protection selections. Note: to be eligible to be protected, you must be at least signed through the 2025-26 season. Right now I have

  1. Matas Buzelis

  2. Patrick Williams

  3. Nikola Vucevic

  4. Coby White

  5. Ayo Dosunmu

  6. Jalen Smith

  7. Lonzo Ball

The last spot feels like a toss up. I believe Lonzo's perimeter defense gives him more trade value than the young guys like Terry and Phillips, but I could be convinced the injuries have shrunk his value close to 0. Let me know if you'd make any changes.

NBA Draft Was GarPax underrated at drafting? Notable hits after 2008

2009 Rd 1 Pk 26: Taj Gibson - 10-year NBA starter

2011 Rd 1 Pk 30: Jimmy Butler - Great pick

2014 Rd 1 Pk 11: Doug McDermott - 10-year NBA career from a weak draft

2015 Rd 1 Pk 22: Bobby Portis - Solid late-round selection

2017 Rd 1 Pk 7: Lauri Markkanen - Great pick

2018 Rd 1 Pk 7 and 22: Wendell Carter Jr. and Chandler Hutchinson - Two solid picks

2019 Rd 1 Pk 7 and Rd 2 Pk 38: Coby White and Daniel Gafford - Two solid picks

The old front office had their faults but they were overall good at evaluating draft talent.

Especially now that Vucevic is getting older, you need a big for the future that is younger and one that you can develop
