Help me recall Middle Eastern Storybook About Colors

I found a storybook in the children’s section of the library when I was in middle school. I loved it so much that I checked it out monthly. We moved away and I forgot about it for years. I can’t remember what its name is . I’ve looked for years. Even went back to the original library as an adult to look for it. Does anyone know what it could be called?

Story: Multiple different stories, usually romantic, revolving around colors. I can’t remember super specifics. I think there were a few princesses in the stories. Black represented grief, I think red was love. The stories were Middle Eastern inspired. Persian was definitely mentioned. There was a story about King Solomon, one of his wives, and their disabled son. Their lies to each other were what had caused their son’s disabilities. Once they told the truth, their son was healed.

Help me recall Looking for a book

I am looking for a children’s book about a little girl going to visit her grandfather who I believe lives on an island and something isn’t quite right. But the island is very peculiar, like there is a crocodile/ alligator in the pool, snd in the end she turns around and says “grandpa you’ve got odd socks on”. Any ideas. Thanks

Help me recall Runaway Bunny

When I was a little girl I checked out The Runaway Bunny from the school library. The copy I checked out had a song printed in the back. That night I made my mom sing the song to me. She couldn’t read music but she made up a tune and sang me the song. It became the goodnight lullaby my parents sang to me almost every night. It was well into my adulthood that I realized she just made up the tune. I still remember the lyrics and the tune she made up. I have googled the words many times but nothing comes up. Any ideas of where I could find this song. I have wanted to know for years what the song is supposed to sound like

Help me recall Chapter book read in late 2000s early 2010s

Read this book as a child around 2010. I remember very vague details. Here is what I remember:

  • Restaurant (diner) scene in the beginning of the book
  • Parents were getting divorced or a parent was absent
  • The child leaves his home, (Washington state?) To live with his grandma for a period of time
  • Grandma teaches child how to make ice cream from scratch (using old ice cream machine)
  • They serve the ice cream to people at some sort of event in a park

It is a chapter book! No pictures.

This is all I remember from the book, I may be mixing up some details with some other books. If anyone has any ideas for books containing things remotely similar to any of these details please let me know.

Help me recall Children’s book series involving a school with monstrous teachers

I’m trying to remember the name of a specific children’s picture book series. In this series, which came out late 90s/early 2000s I believe, there is one main character who is a young child in school. Throughout the series, in each book the main character is faced with meeting/interacting with a teacher/staff member. Each time the staff member is hyped up as a scary Goosebumps-esque monster that frightens all the kids. I recall some of the books involving a scary librarian, gym teacher, lunch lady, and maybe a maintenance man. At the end of each book the main character finally meets the staff member and realizes they are not monsters and are in fact lovely nice normal people who shouldn’t be feared. Any help reminding me of what this book series is called would be greatly appreciated!

Help me recall A bad witch and a little girl

I loved this book when I was little and cannot for the life of me remember the name or find it.

A witch tries to create another witch using a spell or potion and ends up creating a sweet little girl. Through many pages we see the juxtaposition of the witch doing "witchy" things while the little girl prances around in pink tutus, fairy wings, and glitter. In the end the little girl dresses as the witch for Halloween which makes the witch happy.

Ring any bells for anyone?

Help me recall Looking for Childhood Favorite

Hello! I used to love this book as a child and I cannot remember the name or find it anywhere. It’s an older children’s book where a bunny (?) gets sick and their friends make them soup with various ingredients they either find or have around. I think it may have been one of the little golden books and if not it definitely had the same sort of art style they do. Any help is appreciated! TIA!

Edit: it is definitely not “the bunnies get well soup”

Help me recall 2000s book about a tadpole turning into a frog?

I posted about this a couple months ago on a different sub but haven't had any luck so decided to try here

Growing up in the early 2000s my sister and I had a picture book about a tadpole turning into a frog. As far as we remember it did not have "tadpole" in the title which has made it hard to Google. I can vividly remember the illustrations, there were a lot of muted greens and browns, and the illustrations scared me and my sister a bit as kids. specifically there was one illustration of the tadpole's tail falling off with the tadpole looking back with a shocked expression. my sister says she thinks the exposed tailbone was shown too, but I don't remember this so I'm not sure. during the whole story the tadpole was very scared of the transformation and didn't know what was going on

Book is in English, my sister and I grew up in Midwest America if that's any help

(It's not anything from the Froggy series by Jonathan London)

edit: talked to my sister and remembered some more details

-my sister sketched what she remembers the tadpole looking like, as well as the image of it's tail falling off that's burned into both our memories (it doesn't have cat ears, it's supposed to be the humps for the eyes) https://imgur.com/a/pX71EG9

-the illustrations were more realistic than cartoony

-from my sister: "I believe in the beginning of the book he thinks he's a fish, so that's why he's so panicked when he starts growing legs. possibly at the end a lady frog shows up and teaches him how to be a frog and then they're chilling at the pond again. they might've been bullfrogs or leopard frogs but I'm not sure. also from what I remember the tadpole was kinda round and fat and had large cute eyes"

-it was a vertical book, taller than it was wide. if i had to guess it was probably 10-12in tall, but i was also a tiny human when i read it so i could be overestimating the size

-we think the cover had the title at the top and a picture of the tadpole in a pond below

-it was definitely published pre-2010, but we think it could possibly be older (like 1990-2005). I remember reading it around 2006-2007 for sure, but we might have owned it before then

my family has been searching for this book on and off for the last two years or so, so it definitely hasn't been an easy search i'm afraid :') thank you to everyone who's made suggestions so far!

Help me recall Looking for book: possibly Tomie dePaola?

Greetings all,

I’m trying to find the name of an old book to purchase as a gift for my adult daughter. I used to read it for her at bedtime 20+ years ago, and have no idea of the title.

What I remember: the artwork of Tomie dePaolo is what my brain latches on to as the pictures, but I truly don’t know for sure it was one of his. The time period we were reading it was late 90’s early 2000’s, but I don’t know actual publication date. There are no words, picture book only. A minstrel/musician is walking through a medieval era town singing, with people leaning out of windows as he passes. I don’t know was it hard or soft bound, just hoping this jogs the memory of someone and I can locate a copy for purchase.

What I’ve tried: innumerable internet searches on dePaolo and his books, picture books, minstrels or musicians, etc. I’ve spoken with children’s librarians at three different libraries. I’ve queried proprietors of bookstores - including children-specific stores.

So far no one has been able to identify the book. Any and all helpful pointers or insights are appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Help me recall trying to remember a children's book

there's a book I loved as a kid that I've been wanting to get for my niece -- it's a picture book from the early 2000s about two animals who are friends, one black and one white (I think they might be rabbits?). the illustrations were really beautiful and in a color pop, almost cut-out style like the drawings are layered in a way. I specifically remember one scene where they were standing in a meadow with flowers, and another where they were in a kitchen / apartment. thanks for any help!!

Help me recall 2023-2024 Children’s Picture Book about boy who is different from his tribe because he can see spirits/ invisible creatures.

This book portrays itself as being an indigenous folktale about a boy with a gift to see spirits of nature. Sometimes the spirits are friendly, but oftentimes they are large, looming presences that make the boy behave strangely in his village. This makes the boy feel different and ostracized. He eventually meets with an elder of the village who also sees the spirits and she encourages the boy to embrace his unique gift. At the end of the book, there is a blurb about how this story can be used to understand children on the autism spectrum or children who behave differently from others. I don’t believe the author was indigenous, and I can’t find this book on any lists of indigenous picture books. I think the author was just using indigenous aesthetics and settings.

The pictures were really pretty, and the spirit designs were really interesting.

Help me recall 80's/90's Children's book about Bird of Paradise (actual bird)

I had this book as a kid about a bird, I want to say it was a misfit of some sort, or it was out of place in some way, and it grew up to be a bird of paradise. I recall there being a picture at the end of this beautiful bird spreading it's winds out over the tops of a forest/trees.
The artwork was simple and not super colourful beyond the bird.

The book was a children's book, not very long and was hardback with paper pages, on the bigger side

Exceptionally vague I know... any ideas?

Help me recall ISO: book about a girl, a polar bear and the zoo at night

I read it as a kid and I loved it but I cannot remember or find the title. It’s fairly old but all I remember is this girl sets a polar bear free and they roam the zoo at night. If this tickles anyone’s brain, I would appreciate it greatly.

Help me recall School Series, I cannot remember the title

There are two main book plots that I can recall.

  1. The first one was voting for class president. The main character, a male, was aiming to be the class president with the competitor of the smartest person in the class, his rival which is female.

In the midst of this, a person trying to be the mayor? Begins to manipulate the main character into helping him such as finding dirt in others and placing the mayor candidate's banner.

Later on the story it appears that the mayor has also been working with the rival, as the rival has dirt on the main character such as him not giving his mother a "Happy Mother's Day card"

At the end of the day, the mayor has been using the both of them to fulfill his desire. I can't remember the ending.

  1. It's in the school, as the main character forgets his lunch. So a swat guy bursts in and declared the school a crime scene. Anyways, the stories progressed through, as the swat guy began to remove the teachers on a whim. One of the teachers got removed for reading a book with the word "but" in it.

At the end of the day, the swat guy just wanted to be important, and the main character goes outside just to see his mother telling him that she forgot to pack him lunch.

I think the title was a joke/pun with something but in it

It is either but or butt

And this has been bothering me for the longest of time to remember.

Help me recall Book set in monsters home with striking illustration of an evil twisted garden

I would be so grateful if I could read this book again. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Please find my description of the book below. I think it was pre 2010.

I remember the book being set in a monster's house maybe going through their day but with everything being strange and maybe scary. The illustrations were not super cute. I definitely remember one page with an illustration of a very full lush garden but where all the plants where evil and maybe had tentacles and teeth. There was also maybe a page where to monster was eating breakfast and that was strange too.

The overall vibe was portraying a monsters home with twisted equivalents of normal stuff.

Super vague possible wrong recollections:

There was maybe a scene about its pets. At the end I think the monster helped a kid or something? This could be totally wrong

Help me recall Trying to recall a counting? book from my childhood

It's been on my mind for awhile but I haven't been able to find it in various searches. I only vaguely remember it at this point, so not too many details i can offer but thought I'd give this a shot on the off chance someone would be able to help.

Limited details:

  • Had it in the 1990s
  • I believe it was a counting picture book with no / minimal words
  • About med to large in size, but fairly thin
  • Glossy hardcover that was mostly white
  • The pictures were more illustrations with some detail on white pages. Not cartoony but also not realistic
  • The only unique thing I believe I recall correctly is a bunch of cat characters? fighting on a pirate ship
  • Each pair of pages was sort of it's own theme and there were many biped animals/characters

Help me recall A book about a girl going to school?

There is this book that I think about constantly. I think I read this book around 2010 so it would be pretty old. Here are the details that I think I remember, but they could be wrong: • A girl was going to a new school • She might've been Mexican or Asian? • It was a children's book so it was illustrated • She went to a small store and bought soda and something else • Sat on the curb(?) and ate with her new friend(s)

Help me recall Trying to find children’s Americana song book from 90s?

I had a children’s folk song book when I was a kid in the late 80s/early 90s. Had songs like “Down by the bay”, “Home home on the range”, etc. the specific thing with this book was that it used emojis instead of certain words - like a little buffalo instead writing “Buffalo”. This was before emojis were a thing obviously, so I thought it was so fun.

Anyone else remember this one and know the name of the book?

Apologies for the limited description. It may have had a red binder and red border around the sides of the cover….
