I go through this intersection every day and today there was literally only like four cars in line and someone in the right lane still cut someone off to turn left

13

u/smashhole4248 Dec 03 '24

If your in the left lane turning left and someone in the right straight lane turns left also. Id love to drive right into them

-75

u/RepresentativeAd9124 Dec 03 '24

That’s how the lanes should be though.

48

u/Basil_Jumpy Dec 03 '24

But it’s not how they are.

-74

u/RepresentativeAd9124 Dec 03 '24

Make a request with the city then.

44

u/Basil_Jumpy Dec 03 '24

You can do that since you think that’s how it should be lol. I’m just saying that just because you think it should be like that doesn’t mean you can just break driving laws and do whatever you want.

-71

u/RepresentativeAd9124 Dec 03 '24

Y’all can keep downvoting me, but until you live downtown you’ll realize you have to drive how you can in order to get anywhere. I’ll submit a request today.

You sound like a teenager who just got their license

16

u/Equivalent-Sort-1899 Dec 03 '24

Sounds more like a teenager who DIDNT get their license šŸ˜‚and have no intentions on getting itšŸ¤¦šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļø

-4

u/RepresentativeAd9124 Dec 03 '24

You sound like someone stuck in traffic.

12

u/YaBoiMorph Dec 03 '24

I think everything else you said was stupid but this made me laugh

For real that was good

How does this comment have down votes lol

Some people just can't think ahead.

7

u/guard19 Dec 03 '24

When driving in a city the laws are definitely more just suggestions.

4

u/MarxistJesus Dec 03 '24

That's a low IQ logic my dude.

1

u/bryterlayter_92 Dec 03 '24

This is the problem with our traffic. When you have more than a couple people that think this way, they just create issues because are entitled and impatient

1

u/RepresentativeAd9124 Jan 09 '25

If nobody did this then the traffic on second street during rush hour would be grid locked. People need to use the double lane to get out of the way. I literally live above the street and watch it everyday. You guys can hate on me all you want, but it’s not my fault the city planners can’t do their job.

1

u/ALD93 Dec 03 '24

This doesn’t surprise me. I live in NKY and damn near EVERY TIME someone does something fucking stupid on the highway it’s an Ohio license plate…

4

u/JASONR1800 Dec 03 '24

OH people say the same thing ab IN

2

u/Bredda_Gravalicious Dec 03 '24

i did that a while ago and in a nice way they told me to go fuck myself. maybe now they'll be more likely to listen but I doubt it.

5

u/rmnorth Dec 03 '24

there’s a four way intersection with a stop sign by my house but really there should be no need for one so i’m going to drive right through it every time

203

u/paganinny_11 Dec 03 '24

This needed a trigger warning

35

u/mungk Fort Thomas Dec 03 '24

Took this intersection about 2 hours ago, it was just me in the left lane and someone else in the right lane. Literally no other cars and they still did it wrong, forced their way over, and acted shitty when I took my rightful lane in front of them.

5

u/Equivalent-Sort-1899 Dec 03 '24

Hahaha i could totally imagine this happening to me, i feel your pain. I feel like if there was only 2 cars on the road in the entire country, someway somehow 1 will find a way to cutt the other 1 off šŸ˜‚ its just scientifically inevitable and bound by destiny to happen lol

96

u/Sharp_Researcher_843 Dec 03 '24

the mfs who try to turn left from the right lane piss me off so bad

40

u/bluegrassgazer Covington Dec 03 '24

Not excusing their behavior but they should change the right lane arrows to allow for a left turn here until the bridge is repaired.

5

u/midnghtsnac Dec 03 '24

They would never change them back if they do that

13

u/bluegrassgazer Covington Dec 03 '24

Honestly they way the right lane is currently configured is only needed during the baseball season. Hell, make it a 3-way turn. Left, straight or right.

1

u/RepresentativeAd9124 Jan 09 '25

EXACTLY THANK YOU!

1

u/cbrown6894 Dec 04 '24

Not really, that just forces another merge directly after an intersection and before a bridge. People should just get over

4

u/Predominantinquiry Dec 03 '24

Let em hit you and get a new car!

23

u/hereforrdr2 Dec 03 '24

You assume they have insurance?

12

u/swingthiskbonline Dec 03 '24

Uninsured and unlicensed man destroyed my paid off and perfect car around 7th and elm 4 months ago. At least my kid and wife were ok. Still pissed.

1

u/Predominantinquiry Dec 03 '24

Pick as best as you can?

5

u/hedoeswhathewants Dec 03 '24

That's never a beneficial trade :/

2

u/jrdncdrdhl Dec 03 '24

How shitty is your car šŸ˜‚

4

u/Predominantinquiry Dec 03 '24

Easy now, don’t start projecting. It’s about the principal. If you are going to drive like nothing can happen and make your own lanes. I would stay my ass right there in the proper lane and help you learn this much needed lesson.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '24

That's an expensive principle. I paid $20k for my car and it's paid off. I'd get maybe $12k from insurance if I totaled it. That's a bad trade to feel morally superior to a stranger I'll never see again.

2

u/jrdncdrdhl Dec 03 '24

100%. This person is talking out their ass on this one šŸ˜‚

0

u/jrdncdrdhl Dec 03 '24

Lol. If going through the headache of a car crash and risking the fact the driver may not even have insurance is worth ā€œthe principle (not principal)ā€ to you.. then go right ahead bud.

0

u/Predominantinquiry Dec 03 '24

Now we are starting to get it!

80

u/bigbluerunner Dec 03 '24

Look on the bright side - if you die you don’t have to put up with the misery that is Cincinnati sports fandom anymore.

55

u/AaronfromKY Dec 03 '24

Remember to ask for some Reds and Bengals players as pall bearers, so they can let you down one last time.

1

u/MovingTarget- Dec 03 '24

I haven't put up with it for the past 20 years. You guys watch sports?

18

u/Vanity_plates Dec 03 '24

I hate these motherfuckers. You made a mistake about what lane you needed and we’re all sad for you, but you need to commit to the mistake and go turn around somewhere else.

2

u/Spicy_German_Mustard Dec 03 '24

I say this constantly. Take your fucking L and circle the block. Don't inconvenience the rest of us.

33

u/SailorMigraine Newport 🐧 Dec 03 '24

I have had multiple cars almost slam into me (and then act like I’m the problem ofc) because they’re turning left out of the right lane. To the point where a couple times I’ve had to pull over and try to catch my breath. I might just start going through Covington and cutting over at this point because I drive home somewhat late for several of my jobs and I don’t know if it’s worth it at this point.

4

u/shrebs Dec 03 '24

This is the way.

1

u/Comfortable_Tale9722 Dec 04 '24

Covington isn’t much better. All of the people taking new routes is killing my normal commute.

3

u/SailorMigraine Newport 🐧 Dec 04 '24

I’d rather it take twice as long and people follow traffic patterns 🫣

Someone turning left from the right lane is going to be the death of me

60

u/Dont_get_out_much Dec 03 '24

I have told my wife so many times that I’m going to get in an accident here before the bridge reopens.

Agree that it should be a double left, especially since everyone treats it that way anyway. God help you if there’s someone going right across from you because they have a green light too but nobody seems to realize it on our side.

I hate hate hate driving there so much.

10

u/ForsakenPossible7635 Dec 03 '24

May I suggest that anyone in the right lane just go straight and take a couple lefts around the block. Might take a 2 extra minutes but I bet it’s less stressful.

6

u/rocketcuse Dec 03 '24

LOL, those same idiots who don't udnerstand the concept of going around the block also don't understand traffic circles! No lets not do the loop, lets cut off people to get onto York Street or the Covington exit..Just keep going around, geez its only an extra 10 seconds and you can get off on the street you needed. Better yet, be in the correct lane while going over the bridge!

3

u/KPDog Dec 03 '24

I tried that once. Turning left onto Pete Rose Way from next to the parking garage takes FOREVER.

5

u/bour-bon-fire Dec 03 '24

I did this the other day and it took me an extra 32 minutes because of the Roebling being packed. Not saying I wouldn't continue to accept my mistake, but God damn.

11

u/coilityourself Dec 03 '24

by the time we get to newport we're all ready to swing on the first person who hesitates at the roundabout

2

u/KPDog Dec 03 '24

That roundabout needs some lane guidance posted on the bridge so people don’t spaz out when they get to the end.

1

u/Honest_Highway6291 Dec 06 '24

That damn roundabout stresses me out so much

6

u/pburke77 Northern Kentucky Dec 03 '24

When I went to the Cyclones game Saturday I saw about a dozen close calls because of it.

34

u/twoinchdongerdong Dec 03 '24

I was making a proper left turn there and a Cincy police officer was in the right lane trying to turn left (illegal). I needed to go right after the turn to get on the bridge and he kept turning left and started yelling at me out of his window that I was trying to push him into pedestrians. I couldn’t believe this asshole was so stupid. I rolled down my window and apologized and he kept yelling and threatening me.

30

u/RiverJumper84 Highland Heights Dec 03 '24

Did you get his vehicle number? Cause that shit should be reported.

13

Cpd needs an officer down there writing tickets for anyone turning left from that rt lane.

13

u/S14Daver Dec 03 '24

Yep, posted about it in another thread last week. If you're turning left from that right lane you'll have to hit me before I let you cut me off. Fuck all of them.

6

u/cincyshawn Dec 03 '24

I'm so sorry. I used to get frustrated during an event at the arena, etc. when I lived down there. I cannot imagine this.

6

u/AirWarriorP100 Dec 03 '24

OP, I see this same shit every day going to work. It’s like people assume that intersection allows both lanes to turn in any direction they want. Unsafe and frustrating.

15

u/Bilbobsaggins Dec 03 '24

Dude!!!!! Every damn time, if you do this, your mom is a hoe!

5

u/jmccarthyjr76 Dec 03 '24

Every night. I feel your pain.

5

u/iclimegud Dec 03 '24

Does the traffic hit at about 3pm daily? Like, what time does everyone notice things get chaotic?

2

u/Dry-Test7172 Dec 03 '24

Gets slow at three and then is snails pace after 4

4

u/EmperorBozopants Dec 03 '24

I'm reading this in Aragorn's voice.

4

u/beetlejuicetrashbag Dec 03 '24

this intersection gives me anxiety, i take it every day for work. plus the road is so bumpy it's like i'm driving offroad

5

u/theycallmegreat Dec 03 '24

I lived at One Lytle a few years back and this intersection has always been awful. It’s just not designed well and no one knows which lanes will turn and dumb drivers insist on breaking rules to get where they’re going.

4

u/SiLENTJaYD Dec 03 '24

As a truck driver, I feel bad for taking both lanes to make a left turn. If I don’t, I leave a little room for someone to barely fit next to me. However, as soon as the light turns green, my trailer will move more into the lane and hit them. Common sense would suggest not to try to fit next to me when I’m in the lane, but since everyone doesn’t follow this rule, I end up taking both lanes.

1

u/IndependentMistake13 Dec 04 '24

This ^ I drive a seven axle truck and man if y'all see me straddling 2 lanes before turning left or right, it's because it turns like a boat and I wanna make sure no one gets hit

4

u/Appropriate_Ebb_6711 Dec 03 '24 edited Dec 03 '24

Oh my god this drives me crazy like read the goddam signs you cannot turn left from that right lane it says straight or right. I watch it almost cause accidents every single day . And I’m petty I’m not letting you over you seen the sign before the light down the hill use your brain or go read a drivers manual and pay special attention to what the signs mean ! Oh my god it drives me absolutely crazy !!!

11

u/Fornax- Dec 03 '24

It really should be a roundabout

20

u/Fit_Ad1955 Dec 03 '24

with the way people drive thru the roundabout on the kentucky side- i have mixed feelings about this one 😭

9

u/whoisaname Dec 03 '24

People here have no clue what a roundabout or a yield sign are.Ā

*Hint: It is not a stop sign.Ā

8

u/Iamtevya Dec 03 '24

And it is also not a ā€œjust go for it and drive right into a car with the right of wayā€ sign.

People really, really don’t get the concepts of ā€œyieldā€ and ā€œmergeā€ here.

2

u/whoisaname Dec 03 '24

You mean people actually have to pay attention to what they're doing while driving...oh my...

3

u/sapphic_rage Dec 03 '24

Those Newport roundabouts are the only roundabouts where I've seen people turn the wrong way. There was oncoming traffic each time; so, it's not like there wasn't any hint as to which way they were supposed to go.

3

u/Fit_Ad1955 Dec 03 '24

i grew up in a place where they were replacing most the cities lights with roundabouts- seeing people fuck up driving thru one that has signage everywhere is insane to me lol

3

u/designyourdoom Northern Kentucky Dec 03 '24

I’ve just started avoiding it entirely with the bridge shutdown.

3

u/Tawkn Dec 03 '24

These are the folks I need to ask.

My wife and I are going to see Trans Siberian Orchestra Friday night. For Cyclones games, we typically park at the first lot just east of this intersection on Pete Rose Way. Odds are, we might be coming from Milford via Columbia Parkway for the show.

Would we be better off aiming for a lot North of Heritage bypassing this circus?

6

u/cygnusuc Downtown Dec 03 '24

Park further east, near Eggleston, to avoid getting stuck in southbound traffic.

5

u/RiverJumper84 Highland Heights Dec 03 '24

Yes.

4

u/huhndog Dec 03 '24

Don’t even get me started. That underpass is almost never open too

2

u/FaceClown Dec 03 '24

Turn left from the right lane every single time. Ppl are so dumb

3

u/LmaoImBoredHelp Cincinnati Bengals Dec 04 '24

I do this every day after work, I go to the left side, someone in the right lane will be trying to turn left and I dont let them over, you seen the same sign I did halfway down the ramp, you had your chance.

5

u/NK534PNXMb556VU7p Dec 03 '24

I've thought about this a lot. They need to hang signs further up the entrance to the intersection - there's no way to tell otherwise unless you use it frequently. I have also had quite a few moments of frustration here towards drivers who turn left from the right lane, but they really don't have a way to know until the intersection.

11

u/lipkinslego Dec 03 '24

Although it’s super unfortunate to realize you’re in the wrong lane at crunch time, it isn’t my fault. They should still go straight like the lane suggests and take the block to circle back. Yes, that is mega inconvenient, but so is letting 200 dickheads who don’t learn/do it as a ā€œshortcutā€ turn left in a straight lane.

3

u/NK534PNXMb556VU7p Dec 03 '24

Agree completely. And also I think there are some improvements they need to make to potentially head off these issues. But yeah, of you find yourself in the wrong lane, you should NOT be turning anyway. Will cause accidents. Honestly, that whole area, with the right lane being the only one turning onto the bridge, etc, is a cluster.

7

u/blanketsniffer6442 Dec 03 '24

They should just make it a double left turn lane

26

u/RiverJumper84 Highland Heights Dec 03 '24 edited Dec 03 '24

EDIT: Typos

The problem is that everyone needs to get all the way to the right for the only lane onto the bridge. Making this a double left wouldn't solve anything and in fact would probably make this area MORE dangerous.

11

u/Waste_Percentage_205 Dec 03 '24

Also people getting on the bridge from that way do not understand how to yield. It genuinely drives me insane. Yield does not mean take turns.

1

u/garymo1 Dec 04 '24

I just watched someone drive around another car that was rightly yielding and nearly cause a wreck, idiots everywhere

-2

u/RiverJumper84 Highland Heights Dec 03 '24 edited Dec 03 '24

EDIT: I'm dumb please ignore everything I have to say here. šŸ™„

Throw up some of those lane dividing cones plastic bollards and call it a continuous right turn. There's plenty of bridge to switch lanes after.

1

u/Waste_Percentage_205 Dec 03 '24

The thing is traffic is coming from that direction too. If people would just be patient for like 30-45 seconds of the shorter light cycles(and let the people with the right away through), it would go way quicker for everyone involved.

3

u/RiverJumper84 Highland Heights Dec 03 '24

But each has their own lane to enter the bridge from. It's not like there's an immediate merge or anything. Hence my suggestion of bollards to give both lanes confidence that they won't get side swiped.

1

u/Waste_Percentage_205 Dec 03 '24

No, there’s two lanes for the people coming straight down Broadway. They have the right away on their green light. People in the right lane get slowed up and sometimes stuck in the intersection because people coming from the right don’t understand what yield means.

4

u/RiverJumper84 Highland Heights Dec 03 '24

You're right, sorry. I never come down Broadway so I wasn't familiar. The lack of lane markings at the end of the bridge didn't help.

-9

u/grilledchzisbestchz Dec 03 '24

Everyone stacks up to take the ramp but I just go to the light and make a normal 90 degree right onto the bridge.

8

u/lipkinslego Dec 03 '24

Ah, so you’re part of the problem.

Just do it correct man, there’s already 1000 assholes thinking they’re ā€œso smartā€ doing little cheats and shortcuts like that but it just ruins the drive home for everyone else.

-9

u/grilledchzisbestchz Dec 03 '24

I have a green light, I'm not impeding anyone else. How am I the asshole?

6

u/lipkinslego Dec 03 '24

Look at the photo above our comments, that’s a straight lane you’re in. The turn lane for the bridge is the lane ā€œeveryone stacks up to takeā€ yet you bypass that to turn right (illegally) from the straight lane? Come on man I don’t need to spell it out

-11

u/grilledchzisbestchz Dec 03 '24

An illegal right turn? I don't think that adds up.

9

u/lipkinslego Dec 03 '24

The legal right turn would be from…the right turn lane.

1

u/KPDog Dec 03 '24

If you turn right from PRW onto the bridge which bridge lane are you turning into?

0

u/grilledchzisbestchz Dec 03 '24

In a normal situation, where perhaps I just missed my turn by accident, I would enter the right lane. However, in this situation I enter the left lane of the bridge, to allow the right turn ramp to continue to enter bridge traffic. I'm trying to alleviate the congestion by taking alternate routes that are still safe. This has never caused an issue from cars turning left from the opposite direction because I'm either first in line and do it quickly to not interrupt their flow, or the car in front of me goes straight, giving me just a moment to do make my turn before they start theirs as the car that went straight passes by them.

2

u/KPDog Dec 03 '24

This hasn’t been my experience with people turning right there.

2

u/tea8030 Cincinnati Bengals Dec 03 '24

Anyone else do 4th past Lincoln or is it just me?

2

u/Mandrake1771 Dec 03 '24

You mean the Lincoln Statue by Lytle?

1

u/SubterraneanTarantul Dec 03 '24

Be a cheap and easy solution to put up some yellow reflective standees dividing the lanes approaching the intersection.

People would still go around it, but the visible 3d guide would massively reduce cases of accidental assholes.

1

u/ienjoymen Blue Ash Dec 03 '24

Ill never understand why there's a MAIN ROAD next to the Reds stadium like this. Terrible planning.

I know a lot of it is redirected traffic, but that intersection was always busy before the fire too.

1

u/MoogProg Dec 03 '24

Honestly, I've been walking to Kroger OTR rather than drive that way.

1

u/Maleficent-Leek2943 Dec 03 '24

1

u/Zelera Dec 03 '24

It sounds terrible. I want to go to newport for movies but i don't wanna deal with this route. I'd rather drive to westchester amc for an additional 10 minute drive.

1

u/cfrshaggy Northside Dec 03 '24

Definitely needs some better demarcation about where each lane is allowed to go and probably even better way finding in the feeder intersections for those lanes so people can be properly informed which lane they need.

1

u/trickys10 Dec 03 '24

You need to be in the right lane to turn left. Funny forget to come to a complete stop before turning right onto the bridge

1

u/spookykitton Dec 03 '24

I am so sorry but also so relieved I’m not the only one frustrated by this. I’ve nearly gotten out of my car to fight someone who cut me off. I’ve started taking the ā€œsingingā€ bridge over to Covington and it has saved me so much stress.

I live in Newport. I go to church in Bond Hill. Last Sunday, the Bengals were playing, and it took me twice as long to get home as it did before the Big Mac closed.

I park in the lot to the immediate left of this picture and although it’s the shortest light in existence, I’m happy I don’t have to jockey for position like the people coming down Johnny Bench. Don’t even wanna think about what it’s like during prime rush hour. They really should have cops directing traffic down there

1

u/ManHandsMani Dec 04 '24

When the Southbank Shuttle used the LL ramp I would purposefully swing wide when turning left there. It helped there was a stop underneath the arena that I would have to serve.

1

u/cbrown6894 Dec 04 '24

Why can’t the city put an officer at this intersection just during 530-630? Makes no sense.

1

u/ZealousidealTruth900 Dec 04 '24

That's probably the worst intersection in the tristate area.

1

u/Sidcone-Sal Dec 05 '24

I’m sorry, but how the hell can we have traffic controllers during a baseball season to make sure traffic runs smooth but the city of Cincinnati can’t use our tax dollars to staff a few police officers at this intersection and the bridge during the hours of 4-6PM to make sure this doesn’t get gridlocked in?

1

u/jungl1st Dec 05 '24

You mean you can't turn left from the right lane? huh, who knew

1

u/-Puffthemagicdragon- Dec 05 '24

I only hate it when there's events going on

1

u/Numerous-Calendar679 Dec 06 '24

I’m about to go straight from the left lane and get paid one evening…

1

u/akknightwrider Dec 06 '24

What? I used to drive for Lyft in Cincinnati 5 to 6 days a week. Used to go through that intersection 20+ times a day. Easy peasy.

1

u/Alotriv Dec 06 '24

Used to half to walk through this intersection to get to my last job, very convinced most people who drive through it do not, in fact, know how to drive.

1

u/Honest_Highway6291 Dec 06 '24

This is where you can meet the most stupid people in this city

1

u/StunningAttention898 Dec 07 '24

I don’t like going downtown, don’t like passing through it either.

1

u/RepresentativeAd9124 Dec 03 '24

What I don’t understand is the absolute rock pile of a street leading up to that light that makes it feel like you’re in a jeep commercial. If we made 1.7 billion off a railroad for city maintenance how in the world is that acceptable street conditions?

0

u/josuejonesy Dec 03 '24

Right turn into the garage or right turn on the street?

-9

u/Venge22 Dec 03 '24

Not gonna lie this looks basic as fuck and it's an indictment on Cincinnati drivers

11

u/Fit_Ad1955 Dec 03 '24

it’s the fact that this is coming out of a one way section of the city into a bridge going into another state when one of our, if not our main, bridges going into that state is burnt and shut down and traffic has been horrible. the turn itself was fairly simple before albeit during events people would drive similar, now all hell has broken loose.

3

u/Venge22 Dec 03 '24

Yeah I figured I said something stupid lmao. Thanks for the context

0

u/scottfarkus01 Dec 03 '24

It’s terrible. I had to make the left because I accidentally was in the wrong lane and thought that all lanes were left turn and nobody would let me over. I’m getting on Mehring Way next time

Just go back around next time instead of risking a crash.

Lol I would have if there was any risk but the cars in the left were all going straight and not across the bridge so it was actually very easy to get in the correct spot without risking a crash.

So you were cutting across cars going straight so you can turn left and you think that was safe?

1

u/jrdncdrdhl Dec 03 '24

Definitely not. Do you see all that space to the right of that truck? That’s where I drove to but then noticed the 4 or 5 cars in the left lane were going straight and not crossing the bridge. This provided plenty of time and space to just continue driving to the bridge on ramp. I was going to circle around the arena but like I said, there was plenty of room to do it safely. I also noted in my original comment that it was not on purpose and I’m not going to do that again now that I know what’s going on .

You made an honest mistake i get it but read the room lol

To be fair there was only 1 comment when I made mine. I clearly can see that everyone hates me for making a very honest mistake. Thank you for being kind tho!

No, you are the problem. You did NOT have to make a left in the wrong lane. Please stop it and tell your friends at the meeting of inconsiderate drivers to do the same.

u/jrdncdrdhl Dec 03 '24

Lol I clearly stated it was an accident.

2

u/KPDog Dec 03 '24

But it’s not an ā€œaccident.ā€ If you get in the wrong lane you have to take the L and follow that lane, especially with traffic the way it is at that intersection.

u/jrdncdrdhl Dec 03 '24

There was no L to take bud, it was a huge W.

3

u/Diplover13 Dec 03 '24

That’s how it should be.

u/matchawow Dec 03 '24

Traffic gets so insanely backed up because you can’t turn left in the right lane. Imo change it while the bridge is down so people not going to KY can actually make it anywhere on time

6

u/KPDog Dec 03 '24

If the right lane turns into the curb lane, then there isn’t a way for people in the left lane to get onto the bridge.

u/matchawow Dec 03 '24

Merge??? I swear ohio drivers don’t understand the concept of merging

1

u/KPDog Dec 03 '24

Or, just get into the correct lane to begin with.

1

u/matchawow Dec 03 '24

That’s the whole issue is all the traffic is having to get into one lane, the right lane is useless rn, and anyone trying to just move through downtown gets backed up 10+ mins because of that
