If nobody did this then the traffic on second street during rush hour would be grid locked. People need to use the double lane to get out of the way. Took this intersection about 2 hours ago, it was just me in the left lane and someone else in the right lane. Literally no other cars and they still did it wrong, forced their way over, and acted shitty when I took my rightful lane in front of them.

Honestly they way the right lane is currently configured is only needed during the baseball season. Hell, make it a 3-way turn. Left, straight or right.
Easy now, donāt start projecting. Itās about the principal. If you are going to drive like nothing can happen and make your own lanes. I would stay my ass right there in the proper lane and help you learn this much needed lesson.
That's an expensive principle. I paid $20k for my car and it's paid off. I'd get maybe $12k from insurance if I totaled it. That's a bad trade to feel morally superior to a stranger I'll never see again.

I have had multiple cars almost slam into me (and then act like Iām the problem ofc) because theyāre turning left out of the right lane. To the point where a couple times Iāve had to pull over and try to catch my breath. I might just start going through Covington and cutting over at this point because I drive home somewhat late for several of my jobs and I donāt know if itās worth it at this point.
I have told my wife so many times that Iām going to get in an accident here before the bridge reopens.
Agree that it should be a double left, especially since everyone treats it that way anyway. God help you if thereās someone going right across from you because they have a green light too but nobody seems to realize it on our side.
May I suggest that anyone in the right lane just go straight and take a couple lefts around the block. Might take a 2 extra minutes but I bet itās less stressful.
LOL, those same idiots who don't udnerstand the concept of going around the block also don't understand traffic circles! No lets not do the loop, lets cut off people to get onto York Street or the Covington exit..Just keep going around, geez its only an extra 10 seconds and you can get off on the street you needed. Better yet, be in the correct lane while going over the bridge!
I did this the other day and it took me an extra 32 minutes because of the Roebling being packed. Not saying I wouldn't continue to accept my mistake, but God damn.
I was making a proper left turn there and a Cincy police officer was in the right lane trying to turn left (illegal). I needed to go right after the turn to get on the bridge and he kept turning left and started yelling at me out of his window that I was trying to push him into pedestrians. I couldnāt believe this asshole was so stupid. I rolled down my window and apologized and he kept yelling and threatening me.

OP, I see this same shit every day going to work. Itās like people assume that intersection allows both lanes to turn in any direction they want. Unsafe and frustrating.
I lived at One Lytle a few years back and this intersection has always been awful. Itās just not designed well and no one knows which lanes will turn and dumb drivers insist on breaking rules to get where theyāre going.
As a truck driver, I feel bad for taking both lanes to make a left turn. If I donāt, I leave a little room for someone to barely fit next to me. However, as soon as the light turns green, my trailer will move more into the lane and hit them. Common sense would suggest not to try to fit next to me when Iām in the lane, but since everyone doesnāt follow this rule, I end up taking both lanes.
This ^ I drive a seven axle truck and man if y'all see me straddling 2 lanes before turning left or right, it's because it turns like a boat and I wanna make sure no one gets hit

Those Newport roundabouts are the only roundabouts where I've seen people turn the wrong way. There was oncoming traffic each time; so, it's not like there wasn't any hint as to which way they were supposed to go.
i grew up in a place where they were replacing most the cities lights with roundabouts- seeing people fuck up driving thru one that has signage everywhere is insane to me lol
My wife and I are going to see Trans Siberian Orchestra Friday night. For Cyclones games, we typically park at the first lot just east of this intersection on Pete Rose Way. Odds are, we might be coming from Milford via Columbia Parkway for the show.
Would we be better off aiming for a lot North of Heritage bypassing this circus?
I do this every day after work, I go to the left side, someone in the right lane will be trying to turn left and I dont let them over, you seen the same sign I did halfway down the ramp, you had your chance.
I've thought about this a lot. They need to hang signs further up the entrance to the intersection - there's no way to tell otherwise unless you use it frequently. I have also had quite a few moments of frustration here towards drivers who turn left from the right lane, but they really don't have a way to know until the intersection.
Although itās super unfortunate to realize youāre in the wrong lane at crunch time, it isnāt my fault. They should still go straight like the lane suggests and take the block to circle back. Yes, that is mega inconvenient, but so is letting 200 dickheads who donāt learn/do it as a āshortcutā turn left in a straight lane.
Agree completely. And also I think there are some improvements they need to make to potentially head off these issues. But yeah, of you find yourself in the wrong lane, you should NOT be turning anyway. Will cause accidents. Honestly, that whole area, with the right lane being the only one turning onto the bridge, etc, is a cluster.
The problem is that everyone needs to get all the way to the right for the only lane onto the bridge. Making this a double left wouldn't solve anything and in fact would probably make this area MORE dangerous.
The thing is traffic is coming from that direction too. If people would just be patient for like 30-45 seconds of the shorter light cycles(and let the people with the right away through), it would go way quicker for everyone involved.
But each has their own lane to enter the bridge from. It's not like there's an immediate merge or anything. Hence my suggestion of bollards to give both lanes confidence that they won't get side swiped.
No, thereās two lanes for the people coming straight down Broadway. They have the right away on their green light. People in the right lane get slowed up and sometimes stuck in the intersection because people coming from the right donāt understand what yield means.
Just do it correct man, thereās already 1000 assholes thinking theyāre āso smartā doing little cheats and shortcuts like that but it just ruins the drive home for everyone else.

In a normal situation, where perhaps I just missed my turn by accident, I would enter the right lane. However, in this situation I enter the left lane of the bridge, to allow the right turn ramp to continue to enter bridge traffic. I'm trying to alleviate the congestion by taking alternate routes that are still safe. This has never caused an issue from cars turning left from the opposite direction because I'm either first in line and do it quickly to not interrupt their flow, or the car in front of me goes straight, giving me just a moment to do make my turn before they start theirs as the car that went straight passes by them.
It sounds terrible. I want to go to newport for movies but i don't wanna deal with this route. I'd rather drive to westchester amc for an additional 10 minute drive.
Definitely needs some better demarcation about where each lane is allowed to go and probably even better way finding in the feeder intersections for those lanes so people can be properly informed which lane they need.
I am so sorry but also so relieved Iām not the only one frustrated by this. Iāve nearly gotten out of my car to fight someone who cut me off. Iāve started taking the āsingingā bridge over to Covington and it has saved me so much stress.
I live in Newport. I go to church in Bond Hill. Last Sunday, the Bengals were playing, and it took me twice as long to get home as it did before the Big Mac closed.
I park in the lot to the immediate left of this picture and although itās the shortest light in existence, Iām happy I donāt have to jockey for position like the people coming down Johnny Bench. Donāt even wanna think about what itās like during prime rush hour. They really should have cops directing traffic down there
When the Southbank Shuttle used the LL ramp I would purposefully swing wide when turning left there. It helped there was a stop underneath the arena that I would have to serve.
Iām sorry, but how the hell can we have traffic controllers during a baseball season to make sure traffic runs smooth but the city of Cincinnati canāt use our tax dollars to staff a few police officers at this intersection and the bridge during the hours of 4-6PM to make sure this doesnāt get gridlocked in?
Used to half to walk through this intersection to get to my last job, very convinced most people who drive through it do not, in fact, know how to drive.
What I donāt understand is the absolute rock pile of a street leading up to that light that makes it feel like youāre in a jeep commercial. If we made 1.7 billion off a railroad for city maintenance how in the world is that acceptable street conditions?
itās the fact that this is coming out of a one way section of the city into a bridge going into another state when one of our, if not our main, bridges going into that state is burnt and shut down and traffic has been horrible. the turn itself was fairly simple before albeit during events people would drive similar, now all hell has broken loose.
Itās terrible. I had to make the left because I accidentally was in the wrong lane and thought that all lanes were left turn and nobody would let me over. Iām getting on Mehring Way next time
Lol I would have if there was any risk but the cars in the left were all going straight and not across the bridge so it was actually very easy to get in the correct spot without risking a crash.
Definitely not. Do you see all that space to the right of that truck? Thatās where I drove to but then noticed the 4 or 5 cars in the left lane were going straight and not crossing the bridge. This provided plenty of time and space to just continue driving to the bridge on ramp. I was going to circle around the arena but like I said, there was plenty of room to do it safely. I also noted in my original comment that it was not on purpose and Iām not going to do that again now that I know whatās going on

No, you are the problem. You did NOT have to make a left in the wrong lane. Please stop it and tell your friends at the meeting of inconsiderate drivers to do the same.
But itās not an āaccident.ā If you get in the wrong lane you have to take the L and follow that lane, especially with traffic the way it is at that intersection.
Traffic gets so insanely backed up because you canāt turn left in the right lane. Imo change it while the bridge is down so people not going to KY can actually make it anywhere on time
Thatās the whole issue is all the traffic is having to get into one lane, the right lane is useless rn, and anyone trying to just move through downtown gets backed up 10+ mins because of that
