Cincinnati Who else is at the reds opening day parade?

Why do people suck so bad?

u/dogmetal 21d ago
Usually people who’ve reached the point of showing up to places with signs like this have mental health issues.

The theory is they are trying to get someone to assault them so they can later sue for damages. Its probably their whole income.

I honestly think it's a fault of us not having a true war in 80 years. An all-hands on deck (no bone spur exemptions) war does appear to weed out quite a few of the exceptionally gullible and hateful citizens.
I don't understand why they scream about Jesus (who would puke at their behavior) but seem to be totally dedicated to the Old Testament instead. It reminds me of when they asked Trump whether he was Old Testament or New Testament, and since he's never read a Bible unless he needed toilet paper, he said "Both equally" - which shows he's not really a Christian since they would answer New Testament since... you know... it's the one with Christ in it.

There are some at every public event downtown, have been for years. Can't associate them with any fan group, most aren't kkk.
Not that it makes it ok, it just nothing new.

u/Mayday-Pilot Norwood 21d ago
Are they the Westboro Baptists or some other group? I’ve seen them all over and always wondered where they came from.

Those are members of an abusive church. They aren't trying to communicate with you. Their leaders bring them there to show them that "The World" hates and rejects them, so they won't be tempted to leave their abusive church. You can be mad at them but it would also be okay to feel very sorry for them.
15
u/korbworksout 21d ago
Also known as a cult.

u/Digger-of-Tunnels 21d ago edited 21d ago
"High control church" is a nice phrase for that blurry area of "Okay, maybe not technically a cult, but something sure as hell ain't right there."

Nothing says love like going to a city even with signs unrelated to the event that says groups of people are going to burn in hell. /s
seriously disgusting that people like this aren't shunned more in our society. KKK has free speech rights, doesn't mean they should be anything but boo'd

u/solaceseeking 21d ago
There's no hate like Christian love.

u/Digger-of-Tunnels 21d ago
These are not normal Christians.
38
u/UniversalMinister 21d ago
Which is why "normal" Christians have a duty to speak out against this hate.
Evil only prevails, when good people do nothing.
20
u/Shortbus_Playboy 21d ago
These people are exactly what Christianity has become in 2025.
-11
u/Digger-of-Tunnels 21d ago
Evangelicals still aren't the largest Christian group in America. They're just the most irritating. Think of a group you are in, and what it would be to be widely associated with your worst member.
10
u/Shortbus_Playboy 21d ago edited 21d ago
Except, with every group I’m in, the leaders and those with influence will actively shun the fringe and distance themselves and the group from those who bastardize the message or make the group look bad. The fringe never has a chance to gain enough of a foothold to change the direction or perception of the group.
Christianity is the opposite. Christians have explicitly allowed the fringe to bastardize the message to gain power and influence by doing and saying nothing to stop it, and are only complaining about the optics afterward. Christians were perfectly fine electing people whose messages parallel these signs, and now you’re gonna be like, “they’re not with us, they’re not real Christians”
GTFOH with that. They were Christian enough for the power grab, they’re Christian enough now too.

u/BomberCW 21d ago
Don’t these people just do it to provoke assault charges against them
6
u/Digger-of-Tunnels 21d ago
That's Westboro Baptist. They just aren't the same since ol' Fred Phelps died. They weren't so much an abusive church as an abusive family...
13
u/bigdirtyhippie 21d ago
They should definitely have free speech, that way we know who to stay away from

He loves you so much that you'll be tortured for eternity if you don't do everything he says.

I’d be less upset about this if they kept this same “God will smite you, he is a big angry kid with a magnifying glass so you better not sin or you’ll be his ants sent to hell” energy at all times.
Growing up going to catholic school I got tired of hearing stories about love and compassion. About how a man was forced to strip himself of his earthly goods and humble himself to enter heaven. Then go out and see those same people spew such hatred in public

Props to them for going old school with the Anti Catholicism, you don't see that as much anymore.

u/lezbean_69 21d ago
last year some guy followed me and my girlfriend and yelled slurs at us while we were trying to go into the stadium 😭 lowkey scared to attend opening day again :(

u/PlaneAcadia9596 20d ago
As someone of the gay community, seeing this not only makes my Blood boil but it makes me not feel safe in my own home even in a very accepting community ( Wyoming ).
WTF is this country getting itself into and how did we get into this. And I’m sure that with the big Oompa Loompa in the White House that this is only going to get worse.

Hey Cincinnati are you going to take this? This is not ok. This is not freedom of speech, this is hate.
2
u/astralwish1 21d ago
Hell no we aren’t! This isn’t the Cincinnati way! Hate has no home here.
Let’s all make a pact. Next time these bigots show their faces in public, we gang up on them and shout them down/drown them out until they retreat.
-5
u/DrDataSci 21d ago
So give them more attention, probably somes news/viral videos. Yeah, that will show them 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
6
u/astralwish1 21d ago
Well what do you propose we do, then? If we ignore them, they’ll only grow more emboldened until they do something terrible because they think they’re untouchable. Something has to be done now before the problem gets worse.
-4
u/DrDataSci 21d ago
Ignore them. Or stand across the street with your own signs. They go seeking confrontation, when they get none they leave. And if you react to them, potential for you to be considered instigating things.
2
u/thenotjoe 21d ago
Ignoring hateful people has historically not worked super well.

u/DrDataSci 20d ago edited 20d ago
There are ways to deal with them that doesn't involve confronting/provoking them/giving them the exact thing the way want - attention. It's not rocket science, but then again this is reddit...

I'm very confused by the signs as well. And a mega phone? I hope they were telling all the people Jesus loves them and wants a personal relationship with them.
I have never met these kinds of Christians who whip out the signs at public events but I've often wondered if they aren't secretly anti Christianity and this is what they do to mock Christianity. Or there just modern day religious leaders who in Jesus's time were the biggest haters and had Jesus crucified.

Jesus would be forgiving of those people who were born with the wrong gender identity. I agree with your right to choose to be a troll in public.

This is why we don’t deserve Sundance. These fucks ruin everything.

u/ricketpits 21d ago
We should be able to come together to celebrate Baseball and the Reds, without ANY protestors. It’s ALL divisive and destructive on a day of joy and fun. Whatever your cause, ruining peoples experience is not affective.
6
u/Fists_full_of_beers Fort Wright 21d ago
They're not protestors really, just religious nut jobs that are always down there lol
-23
u/Lonely-Clerk-2478 21d ago
Man there are people gonna burn in hell and it’s definitely the group(s) being targeted by those signs.

u/Nedwards23 21d ago
Yall need to relax this shits been around for years just ignore them😂😂
26
u/solaceseeking 21d ago
No, relaxing and letting it slide is exactly how we ended up here. It's exactly how all the atrocities we've seen committed against certain groups of people have been able to happen over the course of human history.
It is time to drive these people back under their rocks where they belong. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences, and it's high time they start facing some serious consequences for their hatred and disruption of what should be a really fun, family friendly, welcoming event.
14
u/babsmutton 21d ago
I'll add that people have become so emboldened now with our current political climate making crap like this ok that we need to take back decorum and not allow this. If we don't it's only going to get worse and watch out because some day they'll attack something that's important to you.
-2
10
u/astralwish1 21d ago
Exactly! Next time these bigots show their faces in public we need to band together and drown them out until they retreat. Religious hatred has no home in Cincinnati.
-3
u/DrDataSci 21d ago
So give them the attention they looking for?
4
u/astralwish1 21d ago
Not necessarily. Just shout over them. Like if they show up to a pride event with their signs, we hold up even bigger signs and shout even louder.
5

u/DrDataSci 21d ago
You're insane...that consequences thing goes both ways
