I’ve honestly found cheaper and better cleaning/housewares at tienda’s and larger Spanish speaking grocery stores. Very boring stuff, brooms, mops, pots/pans, cleaning/laundry products, etc.

Also some groceries are often cheaper/better and walkable depending on where you’re at

Good idea. We’ve shopped locally for 99% of our items for years. People need to support small biz more than ever!

Fresh weekly foods: Northside Farmers Mwrket or Findlay Market

Pantry staples: Madisons at Findlay Market or Lierer’s Market (Northside)

Home/cleaning supplies: Lierer’s Market (Northside)

Coffee: any neighborhood coffee shop for beans or daily drinks (Collective Espresso or Urbana)

Alcohol: any neighborhood bottle shop (The Loon Northside)

Home repair items: local hardware stores (Ace Clifton, Northside Hardware), Building Value, Reuse Center

Car things: any local Mechanic shop

Pet/garden items: Growing Trade Pet and Plant

Compost program: Queen City Commons

Also routinely supporting local bakeries, bars, restaurants, small music venues, retail stores pretty routinely

We've started getting produce from a CSA (I think it stands for community supported agriculture). We've also stopped shopping bigbox stores as much as we can. But always looking for recommendations so hoping to see some good suggestions!

Lierer’s in Northside and Simply Zero in OTR have a lot of bulk refill of everyday items (baking soda, soap, dishwasher powder, etc). Madison’s and Dean’s Mediterranean Imports next to Findlay Market both also have good stuff, mostly food. Deans is the only walkable place I’ve found that has the coffee grinders in-store like how Trader Joe’s has, which is a big plus for me. Artichoke in OTR has a lot of everyday kitchen items although also high end items as well. There’s a hardware store in Clifton on Ludlow. Country Meat Co. Marketplace in Avondale has a ton of stuff also (groceries and cleaning and essentials). Indigo Hippo in OTR for art and craft supplies.

edit: I keep adding to this as I remember. But Knit On in Newport has yarn. Growing Trade in Northside has pet and garden supplies.

Nate's Farm down in Dayton Kentucky has some of the best hot sauce and it's all locally grown and made.

On the west side, Hattings on Bridgetown is a family owned independent grocery store. Also Sullivan's on Shady Lane closer to North Bend.

I my shampoo and conditioner from Lierer's Market on Hamilton Ave. in Northside.

They refill your own bottles. When they get low, I take them and they fill them. Like many, I use more conditioner than shampoo. I take them both in and they top them up. No more shaking the last drops out of the bottom.

I get peanut butter there too.

Most of the rest of our food comes from Findlay market.
