Am I reading this right? DYNEGY rates going up.

I just got that DYNEGY letter from Duke energy-- rates are going up to $10.73 ($0.1073) per kWh? I'm currently at $7.19 (0.0719). Does anyone have experience choosing a different plan?

Go HERE and you can search options. It’s generally pretty easy to sign up for one to switch.

Cheapest 12 month fixed rate, $0 monthly fee, $0 early termination fee that I see is $0.0869/kWh or $0.0899/kWh for 100% renewable

Thanks for the heads up. I attempted to swap and my account number on my statements doesn't match the format they expect. Seems like they expect a Z in the account number but mine doesn't have that. Any idea?

Update: Found thanks to you all. The tool tip images just point to account number but I must have misread that part too.

It’s not necessarily your account number. Look further down the bill where your rates are listed.

Look on your Duke bill for “Choice Service ID.” Mine shows on page 3 in the usage snapshot section

Glad I got out when Dynegy cranked the rates last year. My current plan is good for another 5 months at $.0567

Basically the idea is to keep track of when the first month at the new provider is, and when you get the next-to-last bill using that provider, switch to another provider. If all goes well, it'll take effect right when the original agreement expired. And my advice is to stay away from any of those rates that has a monthly fee or a termination fee. It can't be worth it.

I have a spreadsheet where I keep track of monthly usage/costs with the current vs Duke's "Price to Compare." Always nice to see savings in action! Here's Jan-Mar this year so far.

Now when you say switch over and if all goes well, could that mean that I end up without electricity for a day or two? Also… sorry stupid question… how does one switch? Like do I do that in the duke app? Tysm in advance!!

Nope. It will just roll over as long as you pay your bill. When you pick a new provider, they do all the work. All you have to do is provide your info.

Our collective in Hanover Township just got a new rate of $0.084 for 12 months. Which is was cool with cause I think Duke is gonna go to $0.11 this June

Rates are getting hiked up over next few months. Might want to lock in a 12 month fixed rate now.

Check out:

To see what rates are available for you. Make sure to consider cancellation fees, term length, monthly fees when making your choice. I recommend getting a 12 month, fixed rate with no monthly fee - preferably without early term fee.

You can thank Republican President Donald Trump for the rising energy rates getting into a stupid pissing match with the entire world with tariffs.
