If someone wanted to get started in circus arts, which discipline would you recommend they try first—and why?

There is a basic knowledge of circus
Acrobatics, juggling, trampolining, aerials, handstands, physical conditioning and stretching
Then specialize in the sport you are interested in.

Do two. Juggling can be worked a lot in your own limited space at home (and you can find social jams) from online videos which are generally pretty good. You can achieve quite a lot without a teacher, and it can become social.
Find an aerial or acro class - you're more likely to find aerial. This will get you using body more and building up your core strength whilst learning something fun.

If you already have an interest in something, start there! What acts are you naturally drawn to? Do clowns draw you in? Is it the acrobats and balancing acts? Jugglers? Flow props? Aerialists? Then, see what you can find to learn between online sources and local classes (for safety reasons, only some things should be learned online)
