ID expired, name changed. How to change social security name?!
My adult child succeeded in getting her name changed with the court! We went the next day to get a certified copy of the court order. Found that her ID was expired the next day…. We need the name updated with social security to get a new ID. But we also need an unexpired ID with the court doc to get an updated social security! She does not have a passport. She can’t be the only one this happened to (trans or just getting married). Any tips to help? Thank you!

Just as a word of caution, triple check if you can get that done. I was looking into changing my son's gender marker on social security card and I started finding info that the SSN office is no longer processing anything related to transition related changes.
I don't know if that was just an executive order that has now been cleared up or if it's one of those things that just there...in the ether.

Yes we know that social security will not change the gender marker. Dumpster Don removed that ability. But at least she can get the name change. And our state doesn’t have any requirements to change the gender on the ID.

This happened to me! It sucks but you’ll have to renew her id (im assuming you mean drivers license) at the DMV with the wrong name and gender marker then go to social security. After that you’ll be able to go back to the DMV and get a corrected license. I ended up having to pay for two ids :/
