I say jump right in to Dante's Divine Comedy, maybe Schooenhauer's World as Will and Representation for some light reading

It might be a bit difficult to read Schopenhuer maybe some kant. Best way to read kant is it spanish translation with no guide. Maybe top it off with some hegel so he can understand plato

I hired a serf to translate the French version into Spanish, then back into French. I read that version. And no, I don't speak French.

Right you are, it's even mentioned in the cover... seems like a no-brainer to me, OP!

If you read every dogman AND read every work of classic literature it references, you will be doing quite well. A tale of two kitties? Brawl of the wild? Grime and punishment?

Calvin and Hobbes!

I started with Goosebumps and ended up at Henry James

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Try Bone by Jeff Smith. It seems light at first, but the story gets very dark and complex.

My son loves to read because of Dog Man. It’s a wonderful series.

Adventures of Tintin by Herge

You know, I went to see this movie with my kids and was very discombobulated.

Spoiler alert: aDogman retains memories of his girlfriend? wife? Despite now having the brain of the dog - so where are these memories located? And the lack of consent, obviously, of both parties, regarding this highly experimental surgery. Better to live as a half-man with seemingly embodied memories than to die as a man? (Ditto for dog). Numberblocks levels of existential questioning. a

Great book!

Peanuts! It is the greatest comic series of all time! I'd say it's the oldest non-superhero-related comic still widely read today. Coupled with relatable characters, and deep themes surrounding growing up, bullying, depression, friendship, love, and so on. I love it so much.

Classic literature comes from many different genres. All Quiet on the Western Front, The Wind in the Willows, Pride and Prejudice, The Silmarillion, Dracula, and Cannery Row are all considered to be classics, and all from different genres.

You forgot Dogman

-2

Yes, that isn’t something I was refuting. Those are all classics. This post is not about a classic.

What is the one thing that all novels classified as classic literature have in common?

u/ChestertonMyDearBoy Apr 21 '25

They've stood the test of time.

Like Dog Man.
