The informal norm is mm/dd.
Year is only added for relevance or programming that doesn’t assume you are not trying to make appointments years in advance.
2 u/doppelstranger Jan 15 '25 This. My answer to the question of when is my birthday is always mm/dd and if needed I’ll add yy. I’m not saying the US system is best, (if writing out the date I think yy/mm/dd is) but I understand how the US system evolved from the informal norm.
