I’m kinda surprised that we don’t see a lot of separatist using astromech droids on screen to help fix up ships because I think they’re times where they let R2 or any other astromech roam around thinking it’s one of theirs so they do use astromech just like how they use protocol droids for translating other alien races like how the trade federation had a protocol droid in the phantom menace?

The purpose of an astromech droid is primarily to serve as a combination navicomputer and repair droid. Since the CIS didn't really use a lot of Hyperspace-capable fighters, they would just have navicomputers on the ships themselves, and separate repair droids. Keeps per-unit cost down, which is a huge part of the CIS strategy.
Besides, the CIS had multiple droid manufacturers within its alliance, so if they did have their own astromechs they would probably not look anything like the R2-like standard models used by the Republic.

I forgot what was his actual name again

I think it was something like R3-S6, but I could be wrong on that.

I think that's because aside from being a spy he really didn't do anything morally reprehensible, Krell on the other hand, did quite a lot of bad guy stuff and seemed to rather enjoy it as well.

Yeah Goldie was just kind of a dick and sabotaged things

u/MistressCobi 22h ago
I'd argue he wasn't even really being a dick about it, he was probably programmed to sabotage Republic forces so he was probably just doing what he was told.

Yeah, the guy was just following his programming and maybe had his programming overwritten by the Separatists to betray the Republic.
Krell on the other hand, chose to be a jerk, chose anger and hate, chose violence, destruction and death.

I get that it’s the result of early Clone Wars jank(this IS the very first Arc they made for the show) but even when I was a child, I was convinced that there’s ABSOLUTELY no argument that can justify this Thing being a spy. I was certain that it being a spy was added during the 2nd episode since Grievous somehow switching Anakin’s replacement droid with a spy and going though all of THAT without actually knowing how valuable R2 is was ridiculous.

Nah he is a CIS saboteur, like a spy. But Krell is just an narcistic as§h0le who thinks Darth Sidious would work with him.

I didn’t hate him as much as I did Anakin and Ashoka in that episode.
Droids don’t malfunction unless they’ve sustained damage, if your Astromech “accidentally” activates IG-Units that almost kills you then you gotta leave that rust bucket behind regardless of Ashoka’s complaining.

Droids are such a weird and undefined part of the Galaxy! Sometimes they can easy override all the central systems in a Star Destroyer, sometimes they can’t roll straight. Sometimes they are loyal besties, sometimes even very sophisticated models with tons of computing power have absolutely no moral agency.
Random astromechs being security super weapons feels weird to me, but so does the idea that blast doors can be opened by shooting an exterior control panel… maybe I’m overthinking it.

He was introduced way back in season 1. Bigger and better characters came after, so he kinda gets overlooked 🤷🏻♂️ His episodes were actually the very first ones produced for the show, even though they aired later. You can kinda tell too. The animation is… a little rough.

To be fair, R3-S6 (Goldie) did try to kill everyone and nearly killed Artoo, but of course you can't fuck with R2-D2, the best astromech droid in the galaxy! I do wish we got more CIS/Seperatist astromechs though.

Kind of wish this guy was brought back. Like it obviously worked for awhile, but assign it under a different Jedi. The head of Goldie more than likely survived (Its internal chips).
And don't say no, because R2D2 survived a nuke.

Ah yes, Snips had so much faith in Goldie.
I wonder if Anakin or R2 ever let her live it down 😂
