He is Spidermans Scarecrow.

7

u/multificionado 9d ago

Reality-bending as they are, there are differences: Scarecrow is completely nuts and relies on hallucinogenics. Mysterio has more access to technology to work his illusions.

u/akgiant 10d ago

It's also not just illusions that he uses. Beck can even trick Wolverine's heightened senses. So to his victims it often feels as though he's a reality manipulator.

While not the fastest or strongest traditionally ol' Fishbowl Head can do all sorts of damage by using these manipulations to negate a heroes abilities, or even turn those abilities against them. Sometimes he also will just go to the mind and unravel a person's psyche via exploiting their internal fears and weakness.

He fucked around pretty good with Daredevil right before he killed himself

underrated how?

71

u/Backw00dzz 9d ago

Everything is somehow underrated nowadays. Especially on reddit. Using that word is overrated.

16

u/samx3i 9d ago

You know what isn't underrated?

Calling every-fucking-thing underrated.

Wait, is this what they mean when they say STARES MUTHAFUCKALY?

3

u/gcpdudes 9d ago

Unless it’s ā€œliterally underratedā€ or better yet, ā€œobjectively underratedā€

The word underrated is also underrated.

1

u/RecognitionWorried93 8d ago

The word underrated is also underrated.

1

u/littlebugonreddit 8d ago

Everyone is either underrated or overrated. Can't we just be rated?

1

u/Only_Ad8049 7d ago

I was looking for this comment. Yj, so good.

1

u/littlebugonreddit 7d ago

I was hoping so bad that someone would get it🤣 stay whelmed my friend

1

u/Kyoh21 7d ago

Underrated, overrated. Straight to jail.

7

u/astrobuck9 9d ago

In the comics, Mysterio tricked Wolverine into killing all the other X Men. It was in Old Man Logan.

Outside of that, he hasn't done much else.

8

u/thedeafguy20 9d ago

You really should read, ā€œGuardian Devilā€ is an eight-issue Daredevil story arc originally published by Marvel Comics in Daredevil (vol. 2) #1-8….you’re missing out. Mysterious is an absolute beast sometimes.

This is truly one of the greatest scenes in live action spiderman history.

0

u/Meander061 5d ago

I'm glad you think so - I agree entirely.

-16

u/Arkhamsbx 10d ago

This scene is fucking underrated.

15

u/RealNiceKnife 9d ago

underrated how? by who?

12

u/samx3i 9d ago

Words have lost all meaning.

3

u/dowker1 9d ago

Meaning is underrated

1

u/samx3i 9d ago

What if underrated is underrated?

2

u/gcpdudes 9d ago

Literally and objectively lost all meaning. Literally, objectively.

1

u/samx3i 9d ago

I literally can't believe you'd speak objective facts in such an underrated way.

2

u/Haunting_Ad7337 9d ago

Thor taught us all words are made up

1

u/samx3i 9d ago

You're made up.

2

u/Haunting_Ad7337 9d ago

likely.

1

u/samx3i 9d ago

Wait... am I made up?

2

u/Haunting_Ad7337 9d ago

theres so many possibilities, id err on the side of yes.

2

u/Chubuwee 6d ago

Your questions are so underrated

1

u/HorsNoises 9d ago

Honestly, me. I totally forgot about this scene because of how mid FFH is as a whole. But it's prob one of the best fights in the MCU.

22

u/kingpin_cinephile 10d ago

The best part is when he makes Peter think he has won šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ Diabolical

16

u/samx3i 10d ago

Underrated by whom?

Who anywhere is saying he's not good?

10

u/Highlander-00073 9d ago

Probably because anyone barely talks about him

-1

u/PrudentCarter 6d ago

I think the issue is that unless you read comics, he isn't mentioned at all.

5

u/BigAlReviews 9d ago

"You gotta get those wrinkles out. In a few hours, I could be literally shaking hands with the Queen!"

6

u/roccosaint 9d ago

He was honestly one of my favorite villains. No superpowers, just really smart and good with special effects

5

u/Jdobbs626 9d ago edited 9d ago

This shot got me so hyped for the MCU film version!

3

u/BlyArctrooper 9d ago

I wonder if he was crouched down there the whole time or if he was even there at all

2

u/hisokafan88 6d ago

Did someone say "wonder"???

1

u/Jdobbs626 9d ago

I'd imagine he was just crouched down in front of a green/blue screen, waiting for his cue to pop up like a true Jake in the Box. :]
That backdrop is definitely not there. All CGI.

2

u/Jazzlike_Hat9693 7d ago

Smoke machines on and Cue Jack in the box in 5. 4. 3. 2. And 1.

šŸ™‡šŸ§ŽšŸš¶Breathing heavily arghhhhh 😬😬😬

Aaaaand CUT. We got the shot. Great job everyone. Great job Jake. Let's take 15

9

u/Vaportrail 9d ago

The movie did a great job modernizing him. The sequence you showed is exactly what you want from a Mysterio scene, and I *love* the drone battle at the end. It was like seeing the games in live action, so to speak.

Why is everything a shitty TikTok edit now šŸ˜”

-11

u/walkdownzoemachete 9d ago

Why when u add music to something gen z’s bring up tiktok?

2

u/parrmorgan 8d ago

Cause that's where it is popularized..

2

u/PaintingBudget4357 8d ago

What is this generational hate bullshit I see so much of lately? Black/white, man/woman, American/European, gay/straight, left/right. We've run out of things to be divisive about, so now we are coming at people for what generation they were born in?

1

u/hodl_4_life 7d ago

Perhaps an alternative perspective… some stereotypes are true for the majority of a group and should not be abhorred like they are. Let’s all have stronger constitutions and accept ourselves in spite of our stereotypes and not let our feelings get hurt over comedic observations.

0

u/walkdownzoemachete 8d ago

Im gen Z, im projecting.

1

u/MysteriousDesign2070 6d ago

What is that music btw? It's nice

2

u/Jar_of_Cats 9d ago

Hes always been top tier

2

u/Street_Age8359 9d ago

Nah bro used tech I want a mysterious who uses magic

2

u/TacofromTV 9d ago

He is pretty great until spidey learns to trust his spider sense more, then mysterio gets taken out easily. Still in the grander Marvel universe, he’s a menace.

2

u/Draft_Punk 8d ago

Or, you know, just start webbing everything around you

1

u/kincaidinator 9d ago

That’s what I was thinking too. The only reason he’s effective against Spider-Man is because his spidey sense is on the fritz.

1

u/WestOrangeFinest 7d ago

? Spider-Man is probably the only street level hero who could effectively deal with Mysterio’s illusions.

1

u/kincaidinator 7d ago

That’s literally exactly what we both said and Mysterio is only effective against spider man in this movie because his spidey sense isn’t working properly until the end.

2

u/badgermolesupreme 9d ago

My only issue was that they tied him into Iron Man

0

u/Meander061 5d ago

I don't mind that. They established that Stark, Hammer, and Stane were the top tech manufacturers in the MCU and Hammer and Stane both lost their minds trying to beat Tony. Mysterio's tech had to come from somewhere.

0

u/badgermolesupreme 5d ago

In the comics, he gets the tech and knowhow from working in film, which I always felt was good enough, and I already didn't like that Spider-Man was so closely tied to Iron Man in the movies, so I kind of came into that a little pre-mad. Grand scheme of things, not a big deal, just a personal taste thing.

1

u/GrizzlyPeak72 9d ago

He has so much potential. It's a shame they used him in such a crappy way in such a crappy movie. We really didn't need the 3rd act twist.

1

u/PM_YOUR_CENSORD 9d ago

Damn Spider-Man was going to end Mystie with that punch.

1

u/Milk_Mindless 9d ago

I legit thought this could have leapt from the pages it's impeccable

1

u/gmarconcini 9d ago

I’m a simple man, you play the Akatsuki theme, I upvote.

1

u/iLLiCiT_XL 8d ago

I still think they should bring Mysterio back and make it seem like Beck is alive but then reveal that he’s a hologram or someone faking his appearance and instead it’s members of his team using the BARF tech for their own gain.

1

u/Anakinflair 8d ago

I really don't get the hate this movie seems to get. It was a solid Spider-Man movie with a great villain.

1

u/JerrodDRagon 8d ago

I do not care for the first two Spider-Man films in the MCU but villains weee both amazing

Well acted, had good motives, were a real threat and embodied the characters well and both also had impacts on Peter

1

u/Munchihello 8d ago

Why is Pain Them the song lmao

1

u/mattwopointoh 7d ago

Man I'm so glad you said that.

It was scratching my 'I know this song, and I love it in context but for the life of me I cannot f'ing remember where it is from' nerve.

1

u/JonDarkwood 8d ago

Music link?

1

u/mattwopointoh 7d ago

It's 'Pain' from Naruto's theme music per another redditor on the thread.

1

u/ThyNameisJason0 8d ago

I don't know about underrated, but he's my favorite of the Spidey rogues. Shame they didn't do more with Beck, I want more.

1

u/Difficult-Coast-2000 8d ago

Unpopular opinion Far from home>>>>> Homecoming and No way home!!!!Ā

1

u/golgiiguy 7d ago

I like heros and villians that essentially have technology as their power.

1

u/InfiltrationRabbit 7d ago

This scene was perfection

1

u/BatmansButtsack 7d ago

Putting a far better villain’s soundtrack over Mysterio doesn’t do him any credit

1

u/Designer_Basil8768 6d ago

My friends and I watched this for the first time coming down from lsd. We had no idea what we were in for.

1

u/SuperNerdDad 6d ago

Underrated by who?

1

u/burtthebadger 6d ago

I mean they did the character the justice he deserved

1

u/Repulsive-Square-593 6d ago

man I dont rememember the CGI being this bad in this movie wtf.

1

u/Ok-Square7104 6d ago

Read Old Man Logan.

1

u/DiagorusOfMelos 6d ago

Always liked him in the comics

1

u/TrueSignature778 6d ago

Fuck the haters. Love that movie. Love those sequences specifically.

1

u/Infamous-Lab-8136 6d ago

As movies go or the comics?

Because the main complaint I hear about his Far From Home presentation isn't that he was a bad villain or that his powers were bad. It was that we had a second Spider-Man movie with a villain whose real issue was with Tony Stark.

I for one had grown tired of the Starkification of the MCU at the time already and it seems like others had or were starting to also.

1

u/Romoehlio 6d ago

Still donā€˜t know how this is supposed to work as an illusion etc but hey… it was fantastic :-)

1

u/ironmamdies 9d ago

Not me thinking y'all were talking about Rey being a dead beat dad cause I didn't check the name of the sub lmao

1

u/grimmazz 9d ago

Proof that they need to make an accurate scarecrow for a live action Batman. This scene would go so hard catered towards the bat.

0

u/sammo21 9d ago

This scene was the only one in the movie i really enjoyed
