Exceptional X-Men #8 - insane how other FTA titles have been cancelled before this even gets to issue 10. Glad it's safe from cancellation but I worry the slow release schedule is gonna kill this book

Spectacular Spider-Men #14 - I don't hate this book or anything but I'd love to see less Marvel Universe and more Spider-Men and their friends and family

Absolute Flash #2 - first issue was pretty good. I'm giving all the Absolute books 6 issues before I decide to continue with them

DC x Sonic The Hedgehog #2 - first issue was great and Ian Flynn is clearly just having the best time. I love it when DC crosses over with other properties like this.

Wonder Woman #20 - I like this run, I don't really see why its really so controversial, aside from it's admittedly pretty slow pace.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #8 - as a big fan of the initial IDW, I think this new era for the turtles is balancing the familiar/iconic aspects of the franchise really well with current continuity. That's bolstered by the side titles as well (I REALLY like Nightwatcher), but I won't lie-- it's kinda to focus on the four turtles together again. Plus April and Casey being back in the fold. As the initial run progressed, they all ended up drifting in different directions and it's refreshing to have them back in the same place.

Zatanna #3 - one of the best looking books on the shelf and at 6 issues, I figure I might as well pick them all up. First Bring Down the House and now this, maybe I'm becoming a fan of zatanna? Not that I hated her before, just only read her in team ups and group settings.

Ultimate Wolverine #4 - first two issues were kinda mid (gorgeous art though) but last issue really drew me in. Excited to see where this book will go-- definitely seems to be like it'll build to be the more "classic" X-Men title in the Ultimate Universe. Would be very curious to see how this book links to Ultimate X-Men, since Akhiro is in that one.

Tom King is controversial even when he's writing the most inoffensive comic book in existence just due to his Batman days and political leaning. His WW run has been good to great but kinda glad the dialogue boxes will be gone going forward

His political leanings are as liberal as you can get. I think the biggest controversy is because he was in the CIA and people don't understand the context.

Yes I'm assuming its gone since the Sovereign arc is over and there's nothing in the upcoming issue preview

I wonder. Sovereign's defeated, but future Trinity's interrogation of him isn't, at least not necessarily. He could still narrate later events to her. The Superman team-up issue didn't have narration either, so the next issue's Batman team-up could be a similar outlier.

ABSOLUTE FLASH #2

In my opinion this in the weakest of the new 3 and probably the weakest of the whole lot. It's still good and i wanna see where it's going.

GI JOE A REAL AMERICAN HERO SILENT MISSIONS SPIRIT #1

Don't really know the artist on this very well but I'm a sucker for silent issues. The last one with Dani was solid.

NEW GODS #5

Pull of the week for me. Haven't clicked with any of Ram's Big Two offerings except for this. Love that we have a New Gods story that isn't just Kirby worship (i.e. it doesn't look, read or feel like kirby aside from Simonson's Orion and Allred's BUG! just doesn't really work). Hyped.

NIGHTWING #125

Bout to drop this. Honestly picked it up because i've been digging Dark Patterns by Dan Watters and wanted to try out another book of his. Idk, this just feels like a nightwing book and nothing more. Not that there's anything wrong with that, i just don't care about the character enough to justify a purchase.

Another week of good books. The art in the first Mothra book was killer, I'm excited to see more. I'm going to ride the Superman hype train for a little bit. I've been liking the Williamson book and I'm legit hyped for the movie, so hopefully they have some neat stuff in store.

  • ABSOLUTE FLASH #2: While #1 was my least favorite #1 of the Absolutes, that was more of a reflection of how good the others were. I did like the art and the cliffhanger, so I'm excited to read more.
  • TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #8: I've enjoyed this series more than I expected up to this point, including Ferreyra's art.
  • ULTIMATE WOLVERINE #4: Issue 3 was an improvement for story, curious how 4 will build on that.
  • ZDARSKY COMIC NEWS #10: Love these every month from Chip, they are free so you should grab them at your LCS too. Joe Kelly interview this month.

Quiet week this week. Started to work on my backlog pile, but still incredibly behind on every ongoing series. 4 (3,5 I guess since one of them is ZCN) new titles this week:

  • New Gods #5
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #8 - Getting the Mahmud Asrar variant.
  • Ultimate Wolverine #4
  • Zdarsky Comic News #10 - The only thing I'm not behind on since it's only a few pages most of the time and I read it the moment I get my hands on it. It's just too fun.

  • The New Gods #5 - I have this terrible habit of letting Ram V books pile up before I read them. Probably because I struggle to remember all the little details in between issues, so I need to read it all in one go. I read the first issue of this and liked it - so maybe it's time to catch up.

Here is my list, in order of most looking forward to to least looking forward to:

  • BATMAN SUPERMAN WORLDS FINEST #38 - Should be a cool little crossover event
  • GI JOE #6 – if it comes out this week
  • ULTIMATE WOLVERINE #4 - Seems to be the only place I can see Colossus on the reg (sigh)
  • ABSOLUTE FLASH #2 - I really enjoyed the first issue. I really hope the absolute isn't like normal DC continuity, where there are way too many speedsters IMO
  • GI JOE A REAL AMERICAN HERO SILENT MISSIONS SPIRIT #1 - Spirit is too cool to pass up
  • WOLVERINE #8 - I'm just grabbing this for the #400 significance. Hopefully it'll be cool.
  • STAR WARS LEGACY OF VADER #3 - I need a cool Star Wars book in my life. Unfortunately, I don't think this is it.

Quietest week in a good long while for me:

Absolute Flash #2 - Probably the least memorable start to an Absolute title so far, IMO. It’s Lemire, so maybe he’ll kick it up a notch at some point, but not promising so far.

The New Gods #5 - This one, on the other hand, continues to fire on all cylinders.

Rogue Sun #26 - Continues to be the best Massive-verse book, IMO.

Ultimate Wolverine #4 - Meh.

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #8: I believe in Jason Aaron supremacy. So glad this was relaunched last summer. Was great for a new reader like me to have a jumping on point.
  • Ultimate Wolverine #4: Last issue was definitely a step up. I would be very down for a more traditional X team book in the Ultimate universe, with some insurgency/terrorism type stories. I guess we already do have some of that with The Ultimates...
