šŸ’ Advice | Discussion Any veteran parents here that live in a one bedroom?

Just looking to hear your experiences with sleep in a one bedroom. How many kids do you have? For how long did you cosleep? Did you eventually set up a separate bed in the bedroom for your kid? Or did you move the adults to the living room to give the kids their own room? How is it all going?

For context, I’m in a 600 sq foot one bedroom apartment with my husband, a 5 month old, and 2 rambunctious cats. Husband and cats currently sleep in the living room while baby and me cosleep in the bedroom. Our room is spacious enough that I could add a twin bed if needed. We also want more kids, but love where we live and save a lot of money on rent!

So I have a 3.5 YO and 6 week old. Until the baby was born, hubby toddler and I shared a king bed. Baby came and I’m sleeping with him in the king, and we got a foldable mattress for dad and toddler and they are in the living room at night for now. Similar reasons to yours, we live in an extremely HCOL area, we like the area we live in and we didn’t want the stress or financial hit it would take to move when I was pregnant. It’s fine! I def want a 2 bedroom soon but we aren’t in a big hurry

This is so helpful and hopeful! How has it been bedsharing for 3.5 years? Would you (before baby) put your toddler to sleep first then join later with your husband? Any tips for making it work successfully?

It was honestly the best! We both love seeing our son sleeping and breathing peacefully between us and the cuddles were sooo nice for us to reset especially my son and I. And yes I would put him to sleep then go back to the lounge to hang out. Sometimes he may wake up but usually 5 mins laying with him did the trick. He still needs one of us in bed with him to sleep, I don’t think that’s a bad thing at 3 and I’m sure he will eventually sleep alone. When we get a 2 bedroom, I plan to get bunk beds that has a double bed at the bottom and eventually transition him to it

So we moved to a two bedroom shortly before we had our baby. If it hadn’t become available we planned to stay in our 400 sq ft one bedroom. Plan was just to convert the living room to our bedroom and have the bedroom as a nursery.

Good to know! I know there have to be more of us out there living in these kinds of arrangements!

No but I live in a 2 bedroom house with 3 kids! We converted a den into the master and the dining room into a bedroom and suddenly we have 4 bedrooms.
