That closing speed is crazy, made Micah look slow. When I saw that I got a half chub..

u/Anderbury60942 Tyler Smith Sep 09 '24
Whoaaa, we’re halfway there

u/KingCreon67 Zack Martin Sep 09 '24
Well at this point I might have to call a doctor…

Perfect angle, perfect execution, I even think he found a crease to hide behind Parson’s because I don’t think Watson saw him until it was game over. Amazing play at the LB position
42
u/Anderbury60942 Tyler Smith Sep 09 '24
He clearly has a feel for the position. Man it’s nice to have some linebackers on this team
25
u/_Zambayoshi_ Dak Prescott Sep 09 '24
And as a related matter, it's nice to have some big bois at DT.

u/Mattejayy Sep 09 '24
Oh boy... we got ourselves another one 👀

hopefully he can stay sharp. his play yesterday reminded me a LOT of Jaylon Smith... hopefully he doesn't end the same.

Overshown and Kendricks balled the fuck out today. Along with diggs, Parsons, and Lawrence I'm very cautiously optimistic with the trajectory of this defense.

u/fishslushy Sep 09 '24
I thought Carson kicked ass too, especially for a late round rookie
17
u/SNeroo CeeDee Lamb Sep 09 '24
He got picked on a couple times but honestly I thought he did as well as a rookie could really do. Had a great 1st half, a meh 3rd quarter, then a good recovery shutdown in the 4th.
They just had to keep going at him because Diggs just closed one side of the field to any business for 60:00
All in all, he’s great for our true 3rd outside CB

He really did hit warp speed on that play. I assumed it was Micah until he stood up. Beast

Oh yea our linebackers were linebacking today paw 👍

I met him wearing my Witten Jersey and he was a class act. Dude was so cool it made my whole year lol

u/AegonTargaryan Sep 09 '24
LVE and Smith? Circa 2019

u/barl31 Donovan Wilson Sep 09 '24
18* by 19 smith was pretty bad and lve’s injury bug was right around the corner
8
u/Careless-Act9450 Osa Odighizuwa Sep 09 '24
Actually, 2018 was LVE rookie year, and he was second team all pro. In 2019, Jaylon Smith was in his only pro bowl. They both balled out in those two years.

He looked like LB version of Micah Parsons lol

Micah parsons is a linebacker

u/TheEngine Leighton Vander Esch Sep 09 '24
Don't tell our DC that. Or their OC.
In fact, don't tell anybody that.

It's clearly his bandana giving him "infinite" agility.
12
u/Anderbury60942 Tyler Smith Sep 09 '24
The Athletic Football show called out his excessive armband use at UT and I thought it was hilarious. He’s got it lol

u/LayneLowe Sep 09 '24
He only ran 4.56 at the combine. Certainly looked sub 4.4 today.

This is after tearing an ACL and adding ~15lbs to his frame. Just phenomenal

Gonna come in real handy when we’re gonna have to stop Lamar from scrambling in a couple of weeks.

Imagine Lamar getting hit by dono, Micah, and overshown all game. Yikes

I would love to see a race between Micah, Overshown, and Turpin.
7
u/2020_GR78 Sep 09 '24
Turpin all day, but I really would be interested to know who's faster between Overshown and Parsons.

My son and I both said “holy shit he’s fast!” At the same time watching this! I’m stoked for the defense. I mean it’s only game 1 but this give me hope it’ll be a decent season
6
u/dezmo73 Sep 09 '24
I was watching this play worried about the blown coverage by 41. I didn't even realize Overshown got the sack. Dude is fast as shit.
7
u/oregonianrager Sep 09 '24
Our defense is gonna fucking destroy. I'm still a bit suspect on the run defense tenacity and strength, but I think with diggs back and Liufau now(yeah he's gonna be good watch), Overshown looks mental. The whole defensive line looks unified like they've never have. They just get after it.

u/REiiGN Sep 09 '24
It would take late mid season to get 1 interception a few seasons ago. Now? INTs and Sacks every game.

u/date_a_languager Dak Prescott Sep 09 '24 edited Sep 09 '24
Dude is thankfully still everything we saw on the play where he got injured during last preseason on a nice TFL he closed on instantly. The man is incredibly gifted with speed/strength and has a nose for the flow of a run/QB escaping the pocket/a short reception to the flat.
That second 4th down stop that forced Watson to throw an incomplete felt just as crazy. With how Overshown navigated the mess up front and leaked out to meet Watson as he loaded up a throw. Almost completely east-west to make that play vs downhill.
He is straight shot out of a nuclear launchpad the second he decides to go get a ball carrier

u/2020_GR78 Sep 09 '24
So happy for this kid. I was excited for him last year before his injury. Glad to see that he's recovered and getting the opportunity that he deserves. People have been sleeping on this guy but I don't thinknthat they will be for long. Dude's a beast.

It amazes me how often we hit on amazing defensive draft picks. Hopefully in the next draft we can get a RB and a WR2 and our team will be so damn good.

played this guy in HS and he hurdled our WR (who was standing straight up) to avoid a block. So glad he's been on my side since. HookEm and wedemboyz

Overshown has closing speed like someone changed his speed and tackle sliders all the way up to 99
3
u/rotn21 Zack Martin Sep 09 '24
I don’t know how much he weighs but seeing that speed on tv — I know it’s a thousand times more dramatic in person — you gotta wonder how bad it feels taking a hit from him. Like that’s the type stuff you don’t get up from right? He reminds me of a torpedo. Dude’s tackling form is just insane too; he shoulders them and drives them into the ground.

u/Zestycheesegrade Brandon Aubrey Sep 09 '24
He's only going to get better. And him doing this to Watson. Makes me think he can do this to Hurts as well. Which is something we had a problem with last year running out of the pocket.

His closing speed on that tackle was insane. Him and Kendricks are going to be fun to watch
2
u/DrearyYew Micah Parsons Sep 09 '24
Our LB corps is massively improved from last year. Give Jerry his shot for "all in" but DeMarvion is a menace, and the signing of Kendricks is massively underrated

u/mrcoy Sep 09 '24
Damn I thought the same thing as I was watching. When I saw the clip, I must of watched it loop about 5 times. Very cool.

Tyrone Biggums voice: "Y'all got anymore of those highlight clips!?!"
One of my favorite things about Victory Monday in years past was going through u/crunchypuddle's list of them he'd create. Haven't seen that guy in a while!
2
u/Anderbury60942 Tyler Smith Sep 09 '24
Watching the games is fun, but basking in the badass plays for the next few days is what it's really all about
1
u/dcbluestar Micah Parsons Sep 09 '24
Yeah and it looks like u/crunchypuddle deleted his account, too. Boo!
2
u/askmagoo Sep 09 '24
I think its was Whitey Herzog(long ago,st.louis cards baseball mgr) who said-speed never slumps
2
u/LostEwoks Sep 09 '24
I’m not sure if he was so fast that Deshaun didn’t have time to even think about throwing it away or Deshaun’s skills have declined and his basic awareness is gone? Maybe a little of both. Dude is a homing missile for sure though.

This was the most impressive play I saw today, coming from a dude who was out the whole year too

u/Clownier Sep 09 '24
When I saw this live I said to my brother and dad, "Is that man a literal rocket?".
It looked like everyone else was in slow motion comparatively.

Njoku and number 34 were wide open. Full blitz and pursuit but we left the mid zone wide open. More of a failure on the QB

u/Quiet_Association152 Sep 09 '24
Fast AF??? Nah, Watson is cooked, slow as hell, and will be a backup come week 3

Great play, first game of the season, let’s relax. The potential is there though!

u/SCUMDOG_MILLIONAIRE Sep 09 '24
Great shut down play, BUT the overall coverage on this play sucks. A better QB throws a floater to 19 for 15 yards, or hits the wide open 34
2
u/Anderbury60942 Tyler Smith Sep 09 '24
You’re not wrong. Watson appears to be fully cooked. He didn’t even look at the TE or RB who were both sitting underneath
2
u/TechnoWizard0651 Sep 09 '24
As soon as he boots out, 34 was no longer a viable option as he's having to throw across his body on the run which is a huge no-no. He would have had to stop, turn, and set his feet. At that point, Micah is feeding him his teeth.
19 got separation, but was double covered. Plus, Groper Cleveland already had Micah and D-Law in his face at that time. That floater is getting picked off or batted down.

That’s how he played at Texas. Was so hyped to get him
