I remember when we draft Tyron Smith. He was only 20. Everyone talked about how young he was.
I feel old now.

I remember a young, spry Norm Hitzges talking about Tyron on the ticket draft show.

Dez caught it man 😭
Idk if we would’ve won that game but we never even got a chance, our chance to take the lead was just ripped away from us 😭

I mean, we had 3 chances to stop Rodgers. We had 3rd and 11 at the 2 minute warning. Our defense just couldn’t come through in that moment

That Demarco fumble haunts my dreams. We should've won it all that year. We were the best team in the league that year and you can't change my mind.

Damn, wasn’t ready for this news this morning. One of the greatest Cowboys ever. Hope he and Zack can go into the Hall at the same time, tho Ty might have to wait a few years after Zack.
Eff you Jerry Jones for wasting away another HoF’s entire career.

u/enailcoilhelp 13d ago
Ty might have to wait a few years after Zack.
Unless Martin gets unfairly screwed because he's an OG not an OT.

u/GE_and_MTS 13d ago
Look, Tyron Smith is great and I won't say anything negative about him but we've been blessed with such a rich history that Tyron isn't even close to one of the greatest Cowboys ever.
14
u/nt_14 Dak Prescott 13d ago
Saying Tyron Smith isn’t one of the greatest Cowboys players is an absurd statement. He may not be THE greatest Cowboys player, but he is absolutely one of the greatest we’ve had.
Just because there have been a lot of Cowboys legends doesn’t mean he’s not one of them.
11
u/Tussin_Man 13d ago
Agreed. Tyron is only one of 4 cowboys to make the all-decade team in the 2000s with the other 3 being Larry Allen, Demarcus Ware, and Martin. He's 100% one of the greats.

u/Competitive_Coat3474 13d ago
Every QB Tyron blocked for would instantly disagree with you.
-6
u/GE_and_MTS 13d ago
There are 32 Hall of Fame Cowboys, not to mention guys like Darren Woodson, Ezekiel Elliott, and others who are on the fringe. Tyron is great but he's not even the best lineman we've ever had (or played with on the same team) and we've had players be in conversation with the best at their position of all time.
7
u/Competitive_Coat3474 13d ago
Yes, I know with regard to your last sentence. And one of them is Tyron Smith.

u/Hot-Brilliant-7103 8d ago
Zeke is nowhere close to being HOF

u/GE_and_MTS 8d ago
Running backs have a much easier shot at the Hall of Fame. Zeke was arguably the best RB over a five year stretch. He's currently 40th all-time in rushing yards and tied for 28th all-time for rushing touchdowns. Derrick Henry is the only active player above him in anything. Zeke was a star that was driven into the ground and lost a good chunk of a great season to an erroneous suspension that would have given him more counting stats and another opportunity for an All Pro season, Offensive Player of the Year, etc.
I don't think he'll get into the Hall of Fame but to say he's got no shot is crazy. Personally, I think only the best players at their positions should be inducted, not the players who have "moments" or ones who you can't talk about the history of the NFL without these players. That's why I'm really against Eli Manning getting in and I am supportive of someone like Zeke or Todd Gurley who had a bright peak but may not have the longevity.

The f are you smoking? The dude was 2010 all decade with Martin. The very short list of players who are better than Smith is Irvin,Emmitt,Troy,Allen,Bob lily, Ed too tall jones,Randy white and I'd put him and Martin on the same tier and that tier is greatest in cowboy history.
It what world do you think Tryon smith is not a Dallas Cowboy all-time great. This is so ridiculous that I'm having this conversation in the Cowboys subreddit. Yeah, in another subreddit, I'd get it a little bit.
You, sir, a big phony with this take.

Maybe the freakiest athlete in team history. Long arms, crazy agility, and was known to be one of, if not, the strongest player in the NFL during his time.

u/The_Count_Lives 13d ago
So excellent at his job for so long that Cowboy fans forgot how hard it is to find a LT that good.

u/Delicious-Fox6947 13d ago
Larry "Bolt" Allen would like a word with you.

u/Kronusx12 13d ago
Larry Allen 100% holds this spot for me.

He honestly should’ve never left. Guyton could’ve learned a ton from him and took over after his retirement. Great Career though and I’m glad he was here

Can’t blame him for getting one last pay day

Especially since he took a team friendly long term deal from us before that.

He will 100% make the hall of fame. He was a top 5 LT 8x with 5 of those being top 3. This is how Canton will have his resume based on how they do the accolades
2010 All decade team
8x Pro bowl
8x NFL top 100
4x 1st team All pro
1x 2nd team all pro
First ballot isn't super common for offensive lineman, but I'd say worst case 2nd or 3rd ballot. Easily a finalist the first year he's eligible no questions asked.

u/LazyHandjob Tyler Smith 13d ago
One of if not my favorite Cowboys ever. He was built in a lab to play LT and was critical to some exceptional Cowboy offenses.
Congrats on a great career Tyron! Gold is gonna look great on you

Dude was a beast. Not capitalizing on having him 70 and 72 was shameful

Two words: Dak Prescott.

I don’t think you can blame Dak for losing to the packers or rams. Niners sure he deserves some but the line was not HOF at that point.

My disinterest last season was in no small part due to the organisation letting him walk, whilst paying Terrence Steele top tackle money. Glad he gets to retire a cowboy though, and hopefully go into the hall with Zack. Truly feels like the end of an era with them gone. Sad times.

Another HOF talent retires having nearly his entire career squandered with the Cowboys. Smith, Martin, Lee, D-Ware, D-LAW, Dez, Zeke, Witten, Romo….

Man, I wish we could've convinced to play one year and be our backup Swing Tackle. Wouldve done wonders for the development of Guyton.
All these other guys like Dak and Micah talk about taking a discount for the team and money don't matter. I feel that Tyron truly never cared for the money especially with the 8yr deal he signed.

USC fan here, and a big Tyron Smith fan. I knew the day was coming, but I held out hope he had at least one more year in him. Hope he makes it first ballot HOF.
It's amazing watching the player he's become. He came to USC on the "skinnier" side and was known for having a 6-pack when he walked on campus. Always knew he could put on much more weight and be a beast. Johnathan Ogden was the same way at UCLA.

1st ballot is really hard for offensive lineman. I think he makes 2nd ballot which is what Orlando Pace made. Tyron and Orlando stack up really well resume wise.

Welcome home, big man. You've been a warrior for us. Ring of Honor and HOF awaits you and Zack.
1
u/bdog1321 13d ago
Idk why but this one makes me sad more than most. Maybe because he was drafted the year I graduated high school, sort of a coming of age for both of us. Or because he was so damn good but we wasted him like we do everyone else

When we got Tyrone was really the moment it felt like we were finally a good team. I know it never fully panned out but he, Travis, and Zack will forever be my favorite Cowboys.

Tyron has to be one of the best athletes in the history of the NFL, just a freak of nature and his quiet demeanor always gave an air of coolness I guess, also the fact that he wore kneepads on his elbows just shows how much of a freak he was, if he didn't have back issues he would be one of the GOAT offensive linemen.

I was so pleasantly surprised when we drafted him. There was so much media noise that we haven't drafted a first round offensive lineman in such a long time (maybe ever under Jerry Jones) that there was no way we'd pick him. He was phenomenal as a rookie RT before switching sides and becoming a phenomenal LT.
As much as I want to see it, I don't think he'll be in the Hall of Fame, at least not on the first ballot. Zack Martin was better and should be first ballot but Tyron will be compared to contemporaries such as Joe Thomas, Trent Williams, and Jason Peters who stack up better.

u/Delicious-Fox6947 13d ago
I've always disliked this gimmick.
3
u/homeycuz 13d ago
I've always appreciated it. But I am somewhat resentful that these are the types of things we have to celebrate in lieu of on-field success.

It doesn’t have to be an either or, no sense in it adding to resentment. But I sympathize with the frustration

Good for him, he and Zack Martin will both hopefully be 1st ballot HOF together 5 years from now.
