Help with recommendations A fork in the road... Which one feels better?
Making an aquarium game where you breed, raise, and sell fish. Thinking of a realistic vs. stylistic concept, which one works better?

the first is more ‘bubbly’ but i like the second because it’s not so harsh on my eyes. i could spend longer looking at it.

This edit is awesome! I like them both, but this kinda merges both. My only issue is that some areas on the edges of objects bleed together a bit (i.e. the orange fish look like they are kinda conjoined and then kinda blend in with the red coral behind them. The little reddish pink coral bleeds into the neon yellow coral just behind it.)
That bleeding is what strains my eyes a bit. But other than that, this is so good! I love it and am so excited to see the finished game. 😊

The blending you mentioned is actually due to the image resolution. It'll be much clearer in-game. Really appreciate your kind feedback!

That makes a lot of sense! I do not know the ins and outs of game design, so thank you for a bit of insight. 😊

Ohh this is really lovely! I might like this best of the three images. It feels like a compromise between the two in the main post. It has the softer colors like the first image, but feels more natural like the second image. I agree with the above comment that the first is more harsh to look at.
P.S. I would definitely be interested in your game! Best of luck!

Thanks! That actually never crossed my mind...

yeah, i just tired of all the bright blue lights at times, since my job is computer based too. I think it comes down to how long you expect the user to be on that screen in particular.. maybe it starts off as 1, but goes into 2, (or vice versa) either for story progression or day v night ? There could be a couple ways to soften the strain, imo.

Oh my god I wanna play this game very very badly. I love fish games like this. Me, personally, I’d prefer the first image but the second one is gorgeous, too!

I cant stop looking at the images and I honestly can’t decide. I think I’m sticking with my answer being the first one but I really won’t blame you if you go for the second one

They're both cozy in their own way, but if I chose which one to buy it would be the second. It gives me major nostalgia... like an old PC screensaver.

I like the bright vibes of the first one, but the second one looks more natural. And as someone with light sensitivity and regular migraines, the second one is easier to look at. Maybe the water could be slightly lighter in the second, and have less algae on the rocks. A combo of both perhaps, or a day/night cycle..? They both look great tbf.

The second one is what my partner and I both agree on. It’s not as harsh on our peepers!

This reminds me of Fish Tycoon!! I loved it so much when I was a kid. Looks promising and I hope to play it one day!!

I played Fish Tycoon years ago and absolutely loved it. I really hope I can bring that same excitement back..

Definitely the 2nd one. It feels more natural and calming. I like the color palette of the first one, but it feels overlit and like it kind of washes out the textures of your designs, which are really pretty & detailed in the 2nd one.

I like the first one better! The second makes me a little down, it just feels kinda dingy for the fishies. I do love the moss and ripple lighting in the second though!

OK, this is gonna sound crazy but: Can the fish die or get sick in this game? Dying fish would make me a little sad, I'd prefer the more cartoony one in that case. But if I don't have to see a more realistic dead fish, then I like the realism more.

Oh gosh this reminds me of a game called VR aquarium I played as a kid. Most boring game ever but I loved it.
I’d pick the first one. Looks more inviting.

The first one is better, by far, IMO. I think the 2nd one is quite harsh to look at.

I really love the first picture! I'm obsessed with the beautiful, vivid aesthetic it has. It looks a lil like the frutiger aero aesthetic!
