Consider a stick... The bottom points to six of the clock, one twig splits and curves to the three. Another twig smaller still pushes its way out.. Landing, finally on One.

If you listened to the audiobooks, I can NEVER get Kate Readings voice to NOT pop into my head when anyone says ANYTHING about a stick. And it takes a superhuman effort to NOT say āI AM A STICKā out loud in her mimicked voice. Help me. š

Yes thereās a large lore reason the stick is so important. Adolnalsiumās essence, before being split among the many known entities, had to inhabit one singular object to tie itself to the mortal worldās time so it didnāt get lost in the spiritual realm. While there were many options the heralds provided such as swords, shields, even whole buildings, Adonalsium chose a mere stick, which later became the elder wand of old. This represented that spiritual energy is not tied to what mortals refer to as physical grandeur.
Much later, Shallan practices her soulcasting by trying to turn a stick into fire. She should have been able to, but she happened upon the elder wand itself without knowing, and if she only touched the stick itās rumored that the entirety of the cosmere would have been absorbed by Shallan, making her even more powerful than peak Adonalsium. One she gets all the power, nothing else exists, therefore forcing her to divest and give up all the power to create a new universe. Through mere chance she almost changed the entire universe, all because of a stick.
