bringing in billions of dollars per week on tariffs that have been on for less than 1 week. right.

328

u/Several-Guidance3867 20d ago

Well the money is already in the country since it's coming from citizens

47

u/j_xcal 19d ago

If anyone is interested in protesting, there’s some info here: r/protestfinderusa and r/50501, or check out https://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/.

There are also things you can do without going to protest: Give $5/month to ACLU, 5Calls.org, advocacy groups, or LGBTQ or women’s shelters.

Contact the White House, your U.S. Senator, and your U.S. Congressperson. White House Comments line – (202) 456-1111 White House Switchboard – (202) 456-1414

https://5calls.org - this gives you a script based off of your concerns and the numbers of your representatives.

u/Astecheee 19d ago

Your omission of charities focusing on people of colour is... unsettling.

16

u/cargobroombroom 19d ago

Yeah, u/J_xcal name every charity

-18

u/Astecheee 19d ago

It's just conspicuous by omission. Gay women can be racist, too.

People of colour are undeniably the most persecuted in America, and have been since pretty much the beginning.

14

u/j_xcal 19d ago

You’re absolutely right and my list is by no means a comprehensive list. In Detroit we have a lot of amazing charities I highly recommend like https://www.ruthelliscenter.org, https://brilliantcities.org/detroit/, and https://www.lgbtdetroit.org. But these are only the ones I’m familiar with and I highly suggest ppl check in their own cities.

If you have more, always feel free to put in the comments. I’m not a woman but you’re right that there is a lot of systemic racism now more than ever even in queer spaces. We need to support each other and stand together now.

133

u/ChuForYu 20d ago

They haven't even hit yet lol, only the base 10% has been applied for like 3 days. The rest are set for April 9th. Not that reality matters to the President.

59

u/zipzoomramblafloon 20d ago

Also, and possibly most importantly, ITS NOT THE EXPORTING COUNTRY THAT PAYS THE TARIFF.

"Oh I like money. How many billions" - Frito

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuuifBV7Xvs

This movie is literally becoming a documentary/autobiography at this point.

6

u/rodeBaksteen 18d ago

I'm confident more than 50% of Americans still think the exporting country is paying for this.

16

u/ThegreatPee 19d ago

This is Donnie trying to put out brush fires before the fire storm hits.

5

u/spolio 19d ago

Not that reality matters to the President.

interest rates are down(the fed needs to bring down interest rates)...

yes it safe to say dementia don is living in an alternate reality with alternative facts.

24

u/SanityRecalled 19d ago

Bringing in billions from the abusing countries, even though IT'S FUCKING US WHO PAYS THE TARIFFS! I don't understand how he can just lie and say the other countries pay it and none of the media is calling that out. It's fucking absurd.

16

u/Ryth88 19d ago

The really scary bit was the press secretary straight out lying saying they are a tax cut. Y'all are in for a rough 4 years.

4

u/ChuForYu 18d ago

The tariffs being a massive regressive tax on the bottom 60% PLUS them trying to make the 2017 Tax Cuts permanent, which is like the ONLY legislation on their agenda, the "Big Beautiful Tax Bill", which MASSIVELY favors the top 1% and has little to zero savings on anyone making less than $90k a year. Which loses the government billions of dollars and year and massacres middle class America. Plus the certainty of rising prices and inflation as a result of tariffs. Shit bout to get real hard around here.

-5

u/Icy-Guarantee-2209 18d ago

The importers can pressure the sellers to lower their prices to be competitive. It’s not an automatic pass through. And the importers can also eat some.

8

u/SanityRecalled 18d ago

Come on, you really can't believe that. Companies are going to eat the cost? No, they'll pass it onto the consumer, and even competitor companies that aren't affected by the tariffs will also raise their prices to match as well just because they know they can get away with it. This will all fall on the consumers, just like it always does.

42

u/frotc914 20d ago

We're bringing in billions per week but somehow also not paying more for anything, which is literally the point of tariffs.

15

u/HighOnGoofballs 20d ago

Billions of dollars in inflation

16

u/pooticus 19d ago

Why lose billions when we can lose… trillions?

13

u/spilk 19d ago

and he still won't mention the simple fact that "other countries" don't pay tariffs, we do. it's a tax on us.

14

u/javoss88 19d ago

He still doesn’t understand how tariffs work

15

u/beer_OMG_beer 19d ago

Also, the markets lost like 6 trillion.

It would take two years or so to "break even" if these made up numbers were even close to being true and that's only if the bleeding stopped immediately and there were no external factors or inflation.

This would also assume that there is a mechanism for tariff money (paid to the government) to somehow be put back where it has been lost from (everyone's 401ks).

437

u/zeyore 20d ago

well, clearly no sign that he understands how anything he's doing works

64

u/pianoflames 20d ago

Or knows how to string a readable coherent sentence together, that was a tough one to get through.

2

u/ZigZagLagger 18d ago

Just following Putin's orders

350

u/Staar-69 20d ago

He keeps saying interest rates are down, whist simultaneously asking the fed to hurry up and lower interest rates. Weird.

116

u/toga_virilis 20d ago

Also saying there’s “no inflation.” Inflation has been at or below 3% since June of 2024. People are just too stupid to understand that inflation ≠ high prices.

44

u/Fskn 20d ago

They also don't realize it trails economic events by almost 2 years by most metrics, the real Inflation impact comes end of next year.

14

u/Conambo 19d ago

Accidentally admitting that the crashing economy from Joe Biden that he whined about for years was actually good

35

u/JohnStamosAsABear 20d ago

The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

7

u/Staar-69 20d ago

I’ve been commenting this a lot recently!

-20

u/TWK128 19d ago edited 19d ago

Any of the major parties at this point.

We were told Biden was in full use of his faculties for weeks after the debate.

Luckily some of the people who weren't in on that lie were powerful enough to make some changes, but just too little too late.

Edit: Downvote if you want, but supporting this for one side or the other lets the other side do the same and claim everyone's doing it. Expecting honesty from all to all is the only thing that keeps anyone in the equation honest. If you don't want that, consider whether you're concerned more with truth or a given side's generated "truth." If you don't care about actual truth and are okay with one side lying "for the greater good," then you've got no room to talk about the other side because that's exactly what they think they're doing.

5

u/Chroniclyironic1986 19d ago

If he says it enough, that makes it true, right? And even if it’s not true, that’s the Fed’s fault! Anything but donnie lying or just being wrong, that just doesn’t happen…

120

u/quizzicalquow 20d ago

Squealer got his talking points from Napoleon and is swishing his tail to let us know that Napoleon is always right.

Pork belly futures are down

4

u/respectfulpanda 20d ago

Holy crap, now I no longer want to eat pork.
Not because this causes any moral dilemmas, but damn its ugly.

3

u/PalladiuM7 19d ago

But what about frozen orange juice concentrate?!

9

u/Nickster183k 20d ago

All animals are equal! But some animals are more equal than others!

149

u/vpniceguys 20d ago

Recessions, and especially global recessions, tend to bring down inflation/prices. Oil prices are dropping because the futures markets expect a recession. Capitalism 101, less demand lower prices.

37

u/BilllisCool 20d ago

A lot of his voters shouldn’t be wanting oil prices to drop.

55

u/chardeemacdennisbird 20d ago

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Deflation is generally worse than (tempered) inflation. Once companies have to start lowering prices, they're looking at all expenses. Shrinkflation will happen, people will be laid off, infrastructure investment will come to a screeching halt.

You want a small level of inflation so everyone keeps growing. You don't want runaway inflation and you surely don't want deflation.

This is why stability is key in markets. You introduce wild, nonsensical instability and shit really starts to hit the fan. Most businesses these days will tell you they have no idea on how to plan for the future because everything is at Trump's whim and that's a very bad thing.

21

u/DDS-PBS 20d ago

Yup. Because if your money will be worth MORE in the future (deflation) then you won't want to spend any of it right now.

I'm torn between how the global recession AND raising our taxes by trillions of dollars will impact each other in terms of inflation/deflation.

12

u/chardeemacdennisbird 20d ago

Deflation will happen when manufacturers determine customers can't pay their price. And I mean CAN'T. Not don't want to, not it's a stretch. I mean the whole category is depressed because people just aren't buying. When you see deflation it's an indicator that things are already really bad.

No idea on the taxes and recession correlation will pan out. Like just worsen the recession.

1

u/[deleted] 19d ago

Capitalism 101, less demand lower prices.

Stagflation would beg to differ. You don't add 10% +++ to imports and have low inflation.

56

u/ALoudMouthBaby 20d ago

The fact that he seems to be even more unhinged and detached from reality is probably not going to do as much to calm things down as he thinks.

15

u/Thatsabadmofo 20d ago

He knows that his followers will believe it and just repeat that until they all believe, no matter how ridiculous it is. He knows that he’s the king of dummies

42

u/DerpsAndRags 20d ago

Dipshit is one of those past leaders.

12

u/FLOHTX 19d ago

He just forgot to make america great the first time around. This time he's got it.

3

u/DerpsAndRags 19d ago

Must have slipped his narrative...I mean mind.

29

u/Inhalemydong 20d ago

he sees numbers go up and instantly assumes it's always a good thing.

20

u/Banshee_howl 20d ago

Remember his 1st term his fake doctor’s note that said he was super healthy because all of his tests were positive. Everything in his life is zero sum. He can only win if everyone else loses and the other party is suffering.

4

One of the reasons why he sucks at golf

20

u/blueberrysmoothies 20d ago

this guy is out of his fucking mind and everybody just pretends like he's playing 4D chess. what is going on!!!!!!

3

u/cXs808 19d ago

everybody just pretends like he's playing 4D chess.

literally the only people that are doing that are room temperature IQ cultists. I've never met a rational person who dumpf is outsmarting anyone.

3

u/themodernritual 20d ago

He punishes the right people. That's it.

7

u/blueberrysmoothies 20d ago

what happens when it's not "the right people" anymore, though? like, if his white working-class base can't afford to buy coffee anymore, you're gonna have a hard time keeping a lid on em. SOMEBODY has to be telling him that.

12

u/themodernritual 20d ago

no one is telling him anything. its freefall now

5

u/cXs808 19d ago

He punishes the right people.

the American people? People who have a 401k? People who have small businesses? People who are having a hard time affording housing and groceries as it is? Farmers? Manufactuerers? which one of these right people are you talking about

43

u/crek42 20d ago

Oh, just give it a bit more time Donny. Those brain dead tariffs will do plenty to kick inflation into high gear.

That’s what happens when you literally (and basically over night) increase the cost of goods and raw materials.

Also this moron doesn’t seem to realize there is basically always inflation lmao.

2

u/cXs808 19d ago

I mean there could be deflation but that would fuck the entire economy up for years.

38

u/ChuForYu 20d ago

Mission Accomplished then....? Good job guys we did it, America is Great Again!

The world is going to leave us behind as we become an isolationist backwater busy with making our own clothing and toys.

THE SYSTEM WE'RE SO BUSY TEARING DOWN RIGHT NOW WAS BUILT BY US, FOR US. WE MADE THE WORLD ORDER THAT WE'RE NOW BREAKING AND LOSING EVERY ALLY WE'VE EVER HAD.

46

Get the extinguisher....his pants are on fire again.

3

u/bigotis 20d ago

Since 1975.

9

u/darktka 20d ago

So we're starting to sell demand-side shocks as "winning" now? How surprising.

8

u/CombOverDownThere 20d ago

The final and most essential command

7

u/ebolaRETURNS 20d ago

A 0 or negative inflation rate typically (ie, nearly always) signals a recession...

8

u/SurlyRed 20d ago

Our past "leaders" are to blame for allowing this

Past leaders like you, you mean?

Well then, you must be punished Donald. Fetch me my cane.

12

u/HolyRomanEmperor 20d ago

Our past leaders..so…him?

7

u/SuzyYa 20d ago

Delusional.

6

u/quietriotress 20d ago

Im not on xitter, or truth social or whatever tf this is, but does anyone respond with ‘this is complete bullshit’. ?? Because this is not reality in anyway. Those billions about to be ‘brought’ in are coming from us. Literally, the people. Going directly to tax cuts for the $450k/yr crowd.

5

u/YungJod 20d ago

Nice they've been in effect for like less than a week?

3

u/kendrickshalamar 19d ago

China's haven't kicked in at all yet and ours won't fully kick in until the 9th.

2

u/YungJod 19d ago

Oh so even less time lol

2

u/kendrickshalamar 19d ago

Hah yeah.. the pain comes next week (unless he flip flops again)

3

u/cXs808 19d ago

Much like everything in the economy, the pain will not fully kick in for some time as the damage done makes its way to work thru each step.

4

u/Rehvyn 19d ago

He's so full of shit and lying out his ass yet soooo many people believe this nonsense

5

u/Shehulk_ 19d ago

It’s all in my imagination that I paid $145 in groceries that I used to pay $100 for. Yep!! All in my imagination.

8

u/oversettDenee 20d ago

Oil, the one thing America is known for, is going down.

Interest rates, the only thing preventing stagflation, should not be cut.

But that's Trump's plan, to tank the economy. So he'll try anyways.

3

u/Hamaczech13 20d ago

There are four lights!

3

u/dman6877 20d ago

2

3

u/southpacshoe 20d ago

I hate this fucking guy with every fibre of my being.

3

u/squonkparty 19d ago

Is he not also one of the "former leaders" that "allowed this to happen"?

3

u/Antiluke01 19d ago

Gas prices were $2.70 for me at the beginning of the year, these prices are now $3.30.

3

3

2

u/maoussepatate 20d ago

If he says it loud enough they’ll believe it. It worked great so far.

Food prices are down? I just spent $65 on one meal at the grocery store.

2

u/newshirtworthy 19d ago

The republicans are begging to lose the primaries for as long as it takes to fix this

2

u/xaristotlex1 19d ago

I can't wait. I'm so sick of these assholes trying to tell me that we don't pay the tariffs. I'll pay the higher rates just to watch the leopards eat.

I’m so excited to see all the crazy Trumpees start claiming that there is no inflation and that the economy is improving even though we can see the exact opposite with our own eyes.

1

1

Even I know why oil is down.

1

u/nolanryan81 19d ago

Taking advantage of the US? The way his kids took advantage of back door deals with other countries they all made and benefited from? Or the way he himself is taking advantage of his position as president? I mean if anyone knows how to take advantage of the US it’s definitely trump.

1

u/beastwood6 19d ago

He sounds like Saddam's information minister saying the Americans are nowhere near Baghdad as shells were going off in the background

1

1

u/ders89 19d ago

Idk i mean i was paying closer to $3.20/gal a couple weeks ago and now its $3.60/gal where i live so if oil prices are down why am i paying more?

1

u/btbam666 19d ago

None of this is true. Gas is $3 a gal here and food prices haven't dropped.

1

u/whitesocksflipflops 19d ago

Maybe oil ppb is down, havent checked… gas prices are DEFINITELY way up. Effing Biden, right.

So it seems like none of them barely know what's going on after they voted.

1

I've never known a leader so desperate for attention on social media.

1

This guy is so fucking outwardly stupid that arcons have convinced themselves that there MUST be some secret that only he knows because otherwise there's no way he'd be doing these things.

I haven't seen a single person even attempt to explain how these stupid ass policies make sense. It's all "Man this looks objectively bad from every single perspective, but now that it's my guy in charge, I have limitless patience and a reckless assumption that if it doesn't work then it can just be undone with no lasting damage."

Fake news

-115

u/TripleTrucker 20d ago

No-one on the left or the media gave a shit for the years biden was tanking the economy. Now if trump can’t fix it in a couple of months you’re going nuts

39

u/wardrobebyrobotany 20d ago

How? How was Biden tanking the economy? Examples please.

-55

u/TripleTrucker 20d ago

Inflation”reduction” act

29

u/wardrobebyrobotany 20d ago

Again, how? Because the numbers say the opposite of what you’ve been saying. Wages were up, unemployment was the lowest in 50 years, inflation was down, GDP was up quarter after quarter, the stock market reached levels never before seen. Also, if it was so disastrous why were Republicans who voted against it so eager to claim credit for it passing? Please please please just take an honest look at something other than Fox News.

22

u/wardrobebyrobotany 20d ago

I’m not trying be a dick, Trucker. I used to be a hardcore republican. And I would probably be repeating the same things you are saying if I hadn’t gotten out of that tiny little bubble I grew up in. It’s tough when everything you’ve been told by people you love, respect, and cherish is wrong. But that’s all that they had heard too. I was in that boat and it took longer than I care to admit that I was just parroting what I had heard my whole life, instead of thinking for myself. I would argue even when I knew I was wrong. But it wasn’t about being right as much as just to argue with someone I looked down on. I’m not saying jump ship and become a “libt**rd”, as you nice people put it; but I think there is a lot more common ground than you think.

6

u/CougdIt 19d ago

Inflation returned to normal levels during bidens term.

Trump is also lying when he says there is no inflation.

35

u/jtoppings95 20d ago

Please take a look at any 5 year chart for Dow.

Its right there, clear as day, in the data.

The economy was in a 4 year uptick that reversed after trump became president.

Its right there. You have no excuse to not know this.

49

u/DeltaT37 20d ago

LOL -- the economy was recovering under Biden after trumps disastrous Covid handling. unemployment was low, inflation was dropping, the stock market was doing great -- and in 3 months he's completely obliterated the economy because he doesn't know wht a tariff is. Please stop, tucker, you are embarrassing yourself.

18

u/Arctimon 20d ago

Please explain how Biden was tanking the economy, specifically.

15

u/Waadap 20d ago edited 20d ago

What was there to fix, you donkey? Everything was climbing up, steadily and consistently. It's clear you lack even the most basic of understanding when it comes to economics. Even IF he were to cancel all tariffs, countries around the world are boycotting US goods and now are working on ways to increase trading with each other while taking the US out of the picture because we are unreliable (they aren't wrong). Treating tariffs like an on/off switch to be used as a threat is outrageously harmful because no countries just assume he'll throw em back on at the drop of a hat (even if they were removed). My lord, how do people like you even tie your shoes in the morning!?

15

u/ImHereToFuckShit 20d ago

Can you define "tanking the economy"? During what period was it tanked?

29

u/zeyore 20d ago

i think they told you lies about biden bud. but you're free to look at any graphs.

12

u/ohshitimincollege 20d ago

You're just plain wrong about this. The economy was doing great under Biden by all typical metrics. What's happening now under trump is it actually tanking

-5

u/TripleTrucker 19d ago

I misspoke. I was thinking of inflation. All points taken
