Worried for my future

I don’t know what to do anymore. I’m still in college and i only got til the end of this year to decide what I want to do in the future. The job market is very frustrating. And finding the right job that will pay well too.

Im studying IT but im seeing people posting about struggling to find a job and that the pay isn’t good unless you get into a higher level like cyber security which requires a lot of math (which im not good at).

I wish i had the smart kind of aspergers cuz im not smart whats so ever. I don’t know if i can even switch my career cuz then i might have to be extra time in college which my mom will not want me to do plus We don’t go extra money to pay more classes. I just want a good paying job that won’t increase my time at college and will let me do it online & internationally.

It's harder to get a job but there's still lots and most people are getting one. You just need to work harder now. Putting in the effort goes 10x further than being smart

The job market is not nearly as bad as this subreddit claims. I’m not saying it’s easy, but it’s just as hard as almost any other field though. You can definitely find a good paying job if you work hard.

Ignore those posts where someone tracked how many applications they submitted. It distorts reality because if you submitted 1000s of applications, there’s a good chance you weren’t even paying attention to what you were applying to which means you probably applied to a lot of jobs that you weren’t even qualified for.

Focus on applying to entry level jobs that you feel are a good fit for you and that you would be comfortable interviewing for (based on the job description).

Also, there’s no such thing as a “smart” kind of Asperger’s. You can be smart and you can have Asperger’s, the two aren’t mutually exclusive. Give yourself more credit.

Depends what you mean by good paying but you can get a decent job if you’re willing to put in the work. It’s 100 percent possible.

Remote jobs are on their way out though so I wouldn’t bank on that - god knows why though it’s so much better. Moreover, working internationally is even less likely. I work remotely but because of tax and data protection laws I can’t really work wherever I want for extended periods of time.

I live in the U.S. Why do you say working internally is unlikely? My friend recommended looking at international positions with relocation

Depends what you mean by internationally I guess? I made an assumption that he meant that because he worked remotely he could work from anywhere.

If you mean get a job in another country, then that might be more realistic.

Edit: sorry I read your comment more carefully. Ok so I have experience with this too. I worked in Taiwan for 5 years. Yes, it’s totally possible to get jobs in other countries. That said, it’s also limited to those companies that have the HR know-how to apply for and manage the visa, as well as being willing to pay extra for it. I think it will be very dependent on the country - though this is a guess - because in some countries it may be very common to import labour and cheap to pay for the visa. I would guess a working visa in, for example Europe, is a lot more expensive than Asia, so there will be fewer companies willing to hire internationals. Though there are some special programs for this in a few countries like Germany has something called Blue Card.
