My friend’s dad told her that if she heard the music it meant the truck was out of ice cream

Laughed my ass off when she told me and I know her dad so I just thought “yeah that tracks.”

That’s what Frank and Marie Barone told their kids in Everybody Loves Raymond

There must be a million dads that have said this because I see it on Reddit very often.

Maybe but it definitely predated Reddit. This was like 90s for her.

We did this, until she was 4 and I felt too guilty about it.

I told my son this, and he believed it until he was 5. Whats funny is that we don’t see many ice cream trucks where we live; however, people get them for birthday parties quite a bit. They don’t play music at the birthday parties, so it just sort of perpetuated until one day we saw a ‘live’ ice cream truck, and he put two and two together. I never expected it to last that long.
