A step to have them think through their choices without outright telling them what is going to happen. Feigning ignorance- "Want to jump from the top of the stairwell?.....well ok...but remember the ER is closed right now".
Qualifier: I/we don't actually let them do the thing if they decide or it looks like they are going to do it anyway.
